I am thrilled that you've reuploaded this. I own one of the histories about the Rwandan genocide and appalled that anyone would use it to beat the "anti-religion" drum.
Regardless of what one would claim was the original causes, you'd be hard pressed to argue that a country divided by those beliefs is better off than if nobody had any religion. That's a recipe for violent conflict everywhere in the world.
Yet again we have to suffer at the broad brush of ignorance of the history of 'religion'. The 20th century saw several non-religious states established and the killing perpetuated in them was on a scale that was unprecedented. BTW - the genocide in Rwanda had nothing to do with Islamic / Christian relations - it was a genocide based on tribalism and race. Better not to guess when one does not know.
You may well have found yourself on the wrong thread here. I am trying to reserve my comment threads for intelligent discussion and rumination. The "right thinking minds"? That was most sublime in irony and, since I always enjoy that genre, I therefore thank you for it. Here's hoping that in 2012 you and your friends can find an intellectual edge to your rather naive brand of atheism. Best wishes.
@Tct If it was intelligence or rumination I was after, I would certainly not seek it out on any of your threads. Your "ruminations" are the antithesis of all intellectually productive discussions, ct. Your desire for the dramatic as well as your penchant for the absurd would serve as an annoyance to what I referred to as "right thinking" minds. I dont require your best wishes to defeat your intellectually defective propositions, ct. Naivete is a largely theistic enterprise.
@meridianfrost Additionally, I'll keep the promise I made months ago, and refute each inane and borrowed sentiment you express from this day forward. The destruction of your intellectual church will now be my new hobby. I'll start with the most recent solopsist buffoonery you posted.
@thecartesiantheist Careful? I could STUMBLE through your propositions and annihilate them. I love revealing idiocy that conceals itself under the blanket of academia. I was a little sad when you left. Thanks for reinvigorating my interest in making my pocket your new residence.
First "destroy" - now "annihilate"? We are getting quite grandiose in our hyperbole are we not? First, we're yet to see if you can mount an actual argument. BTW - any academic knows that adjudications from oneself regarding one's own performance are quite prone to subjectivity. My residence is not likely to be found in such a dingy, fusty place as that I assure you.
Now thanks for this conversation but I'm blocking you because I know exactly how you and yours operate and how personal you try to make things. Talking to you is a profoundly nauseating experience and I don't want to feel that way anymore than is absolutely necessary. Since you have made no arguments here there is nothing else for me to respond to. May you have a good New Year.

Although I haven't seen MeridianFrost's video, this defense seems rather weak, and doesn't even attempt to engage the sectarian aspects of religions. The problem with religion in war usually comes from the fact that it provides moral justification for whatever atrocity is going on against some "other" party. Although I'm not that familiar with Rwanda, as far as I understand, the conflict also seems to have taken a turn towards Muslim vs Christian, due to mass conversions of Tutsis to Islam.

I'm very grateful for you to be hear fixing the nonsense that hateful people such as meridianfrost like to spew out to the public.
People like Meridian live by ignorance and will find any reason to bash religion.

I have a minor in anthropology. You are using the term: "religious ethnicity" incorrectly

Careful now. You're promising arguments rather than mere rhetoric and whilst I've seen plenty of the latter I've not seen much of the former.

You sound a tad aggressive there old boy. Perhaps you need to calm down a little?

You need to replace the overtone with substance
Emotions do not = arguments

@Gnomefro
So why don't you move to North Korea and put your money where your mouth is?
North Korea = No religion
You always talk, talk, talk, but your talk is never linked with support. Just emotion and a biased mindset towards Christianity.
