As to the debators: Mark and Carlton were the best. Most often succinct and to their respective points with the ability to illustrate their arguments in a way the crowd could understand. Unfortunately, Deepak was a bit too erractic and Annie was inconsequential.

I think Christ was saying what he believed. Nothing more. Christ didn't create a church, or christianity for that matter. As a former Christian I feel Jesus was probably a good person. Jesus just wanted justice, freedom, peace, and help out the underprivileged. In his efforts to do that he had to deal with the Roman and Jews powers of his time. And that pretty much lead to his persecution. The issue is Christians, ones who created the church, were more interested in power. They knew to keep that power they needed a central figure to worship, i.e. Jesus. So Jesus becomes more important than his word.
The same thing happened with Krishna and Buddha. Both of them said my message is more important then I am. Do not worship me and ect. And what do the followers do when these great souls die, they worship them. Instead we should focus on their message, not over focus on the individual who brought the message.
I don't think we will ever really know what Jesus claimed. All we know is what narrow minded, greedy, ignorant followers wrote about him. Much of which was also destroyed by so Christians because it contradicted their version of Christianity.

I think Carlton Pearson did a good job. I have his book "the gospel of inclusion." I love how he tried to bring everyone together at the end. Much props goes to the mediator who was able to sit through the whole discussion without showing favour to any side. That's a hard thing to do, so kudos to him.
As to the debators: Mark and Carlton were the best. Most often succinct and to their respective points with the ability to illustrate their arguments in a way the crowd could understand. Unfortunately, Deepak was a bit too erractic and Annie was inconsequential.
Overall, a good Saturday morning watch.

I think Christ was saying what he believed. Nothing more. Christ didn't create a church, or christianity for that matter. Christ was nothing more than a man who was dis-enchanted with what the torah was preaching. And as a jew he rebelled. His rebellion inspired the christian movement . As a former Christian I feel Jesus was probably a good person. Jesus just wanted justice, freedom, peace, and help out the underprivileged. In his efforts to do that he had to deal with the Roman and Jews powers of his time. And that pretty much lead to his persecution. The issue is Christians, ones who created the church, were more interested in power. They knew to keep that power they needed a central figure to worship, i.e. Jesus. So Jesus becomes more important than his word.

and the most prosecuted people in the world have been dark skinned people. To this day people who are dark skinned are still ill treated. Go to any part of the world and that is true. They are always the ones taken as slaves or pushed down as the lower group. This is true for Christian and non-Christian nations.

It's funny Mark Driscoll calls Deepak Chopra "pretentious" when it is Mark Driscoll who thinks anyone who does not believe Christ is their lord and savior is going to HELL. You can't get more "pretentious" then that.

I agree, you did miss something. He's openly stating arrogantly that if anyone doesn't beleive in Christ at death they burn for eternity. Cognitively knowing that there is more than one religion with belief's stretching far and wide. Clearly an arrogant statement to be so boastful of such a claim. I hope tomtomttom's point has clicked now.

Your assertion is baseless, you're stating is as true with no evidence but an old book. A book that is in contradiction to many other "Holy" books all making their own claims to fame. "If you don't eat, you'll shrivel up and die" is a fact as it's genetically proven without a shadow of doubt that all complex living organisms feed, or it dies. You can see this in a short period just by watching a flower not given water. So yes, it's arrogant, sorry if you don't like that fact.

I think Carlton Pearson did a good job. I have his book "the gospel of inclusion." I love how he tried to bring everyone together at the end. I also think all 4 of these people are sincere & love God & are hungry for truth but they just have different interpretations of the devil based on their personal life experiences. I just want to focus on what Jesus did to destroy the works of the devil!

Good and evil are defined by societies not by a supernatural force of any kind.
Also these terms are only known to men because they dont exist in nature.
Religion itself is just a rulebook, with the most import rules that a society needs to work. And if you dont have policemen to enforce these rules you need a creature that sees everything at any time and will judge you afterwards.
Yes there are morals in the bible but men put them there and not god.

there is true and false, good and bad, and something can still be absolutely true even if deepak does not believe in it.
If I dont believe in Gravity and you do, and we both walk off of the roof it does not matter what I believe or what you believe, there will be the same end result for both of us. There is only one truth and they are talking about two different gods, one that allows evil as part of his good and The God of the bible who has already over come it.

You're right, I think she came only bearing the knowledge of her own experience.. I myself caught her on a couple contradictions when she spoke. It was all based on emotion, I'm glad she's off the streets but she could have just ended with "no comment." She was emotional because she knows there was nothing to say and the probability of it fueling her angrily inside is extremely high. Good luck to her but she shouldn't have been there. To add, Mark was a dick the majority of the time.

deepak's overlying message was that experience overrides belief; all of her arguements were based on experience! not emotion at all.
she got emotional, yeah. she got emotional because the EXPERIENCES in her past have torn her apart.

Regardless, experience is everything anyone has, placing emphasys on the obvious does no justification to this case. I'm sure her experiences made her emotional, but she admitted the assist to her delimma by already having an idea of the phenomina in the beginning. Thus justifying the case of her having little present. Thanks.

it was really interesting debate, but it comes down to two starting points...
driscoll (who im a big fan honestly) and the heavly make-uped girl - beleive that there is a universal truth
the hold to belief is good if its right(aka, a certian truth structure to the everything)
the prist holds that turht is subjective(basically truth changes from person to person)
and deepak(if im spelling his name right) beleives truth is evolutionary....enlightenment will show better ways...

okay the point was made that the bible was written by man over thousands of years, translated many times, and represents the opinions of many different schools and often is in contradiction of itself. the bible is by no means a self substantiating device, so what does the preacher do??? cracks open the bible for his concluding statment. why dont we have an actual atheist on that stage to call that shit out?? ill do it!

the point i'm driving at is that Christ isn't a simple answer to a complex problem, but rather, is the culmination to the all-encompassing problem that is the purpose and meaning of life. I'm inferring that you aren't a Christian, but agree or disagree my comments are intended to address your objection to the preacher's closing remarks. Salvation works this way: trust God by way of conforming to the bible & creation, and figure the rest as you go. That's because it's spiritual, not engineering
