The 1990's "Skate-punk" sound, lyrics and attitudes, when compared to the "emo" sound, lyrics and attitudes are completely different. When you say that "Punk" was hi-jacked by the "Skate-punk" sound, I assume you're referring to the 70s and 80s styles of "New wave" and/or "Hardcore", and/or "Anarcho-punk" and/or "Oi" etc.

If you take the punk bands of the 70's and 80's and compare their sound and style (simple and blunt), to the punk bands of the 90's, my opinion is the 90's "Skate-punk" used melodies but still kept a raw and agressive edge to their sound and combined well with their technical skill and speed. Add lyrics that are often pointed and address political, social, ideological and religious issues, but also meld so well with the music, to make the best music I've ever heard.
