Lol, I love both singers but honestly, Mireille Mathieu cannot sing jazz, she is missing the sexy touch ;) She's far too much of a polite and conservative schoolgirl. ^^
@Zuxilbaja Excusse me,without such a full and warmly acuts of Mimi, the song would lost so much!!!Yes Mireille is not a voice for jazz, but with her complete talent, she demonstrate here that is not so far if she wanted this genre...on the other part, sorry ,but Petula will never touch such intensity and acuratece of the vocals!
However the ideea of this duo was to join different styles, and is something just beautiful!
@beyondchance3000 I respect Mireille Mathieu for her talent as performer, she is a great voice. I agree with you about the interest of a duet between these two artists... But I can't change opinion about Mireille and the jazz, no offense... ;)
@Zuxilbaja At 1:10 she has as ideea a very melodic, full and warmly acut very good for jazz too!!!Great!Don't forget but jazz means and such vocal abilities!Yes ,she is an academic star as style in general, she studied at a moment music with an opera canto music teacher and kept fidelity in her career for classical ways of canto.Of course jazz doesn't represent her style or personality.
It just drives me crazy to think of all of those Hollywood movies and Broadway musicals that we never saw Mireille Mathieu in. This excellent duet really brings it home.
Of course she is, but her popularity has been far more enduring in France than in Britain, and she had also made Paris her home. I have many of her English and French records, and they're all great!
That seems a very unloving remark about a misunderstood joke. Did you not understand? No mention of Dodos. Kiwis is extinct and lives only on Coins. Are you angry about this? Why?
@kimbo99 Kiwis aren't extinct. They're just endangered. I'm not sure where dodos came into play, except that they ARE extinct (which, once again, Kiwis are NOT...)
@marchingtrojans Much is lost in committing language to writing. There are no kiwis in Ottawa. Yes? Jokes are certainly the greatest losers in this process. How can you be so passionate, its all said in jest? Oh damned literalism. This person expressed a disilke of Mireille Mathieu under MY MM video and had to be punished with a joke. Feel my passion. Thanks for the zoology lesson.
Amazing!! What talented singers in this fun duet that just stuns me! I love both Mireille Mathieu and Petula Clark. Petula Clark made it alright in America (but nothing compared to her career in Europe of course), but the only hit the USA embraced was Downtown. It's a real shame America didn't embrace Mireille Mathieu. What talent these women have! Sometimes America doesn't realize real talent like Mireille Mathieu and Édith Piaf. It's a shame! :(
Although she has been Swiss/Fench based for decades,Petula has been around all my life.I can remember seeing her when I was a toddler. However, Miss Mathieu is something else. I do love it when her hair is styled thus, it makes one realise just how truly beautiful she is. Dare I say it - the voice ain't bad either!!!
I can't believe that this wonderful, classy, and very, very attractive singer wasn't even on my radar screen until a few days ago. What a loss! And why didn't the American entertainment media give her more of a shot on this side of the Atlantic?
She was introduced to America as early as 1967. Can't speak English.Dyslexic.There are videos here of her singing with Dean Martin .Dionne Warwick. Muppets. We call the Mireille Mathieu search Mimi street. Enjoy. She drove all over Europe and Russia for many yrs singing live in concerts.China. Brazil. Japan.
Repeatedly caned at school in post war France for daring to use her domiant left hand. She only sings in foreign langiages and does not speak them all. After 6 months of intensive English lessons she could only repeat one phrase.Post war France, she also suffered lack of meat protein and is the shortest of the 14 children Blame the war. Bio on moncredoDOT com. Long term malnutrition (thinness) is evident in her very early videos. With decent food she became a magazine cover.
Oh yes, just what I think of while listening to these giants of art (music would be too narrow) like Mimi, Nana Mouskouri, Edith Piaf. All great but prefer Mimi.

The same compliments could be said of Petula Clark as well, but her I'd already seen and heard perform.

Daniel: You know, as a 55-year-old myself, I have to say that, at 62, Miss Mathieu doesn't look so bad now (in an age-adjusted sort of way).
Greetings from the U. S. A.

C'mon Harry, we know you can think of something better to say about MM than just "doesn't look so bad now". You've gotta watch the pablum you know!
Oh.dear,is this what I've just written?

Two such petite women . . . but as singers, they stand head and shoulders above the current crop of exhibitionist pop divas.

One can even understand the words when they sing, by jove ! Unlike today's screamers.
