  • Can anyone help me? I'm looking for a Fast Show sketch with a character that I believe only appeared once. He was played by Paul Whitehouse, and was basically a middle-aged man in a shop, buying something, who kept asking the staff to confirm what he was doing e.g. "I go in there, do I?", "I give you that, do I?", "I walk out that door, do I?". Anyway, it was hilarious, and if anyone knows more about it, please let me know.

  • In the best Rowley Birkin QC I ever saw, he was muttering something about "a small Indian boy" and it seemed to have a sexual tone to his muttering and mannerisms...I remember falling off my chair laughing. Wish I could find it.

  • Absolutely amazing...excellent comedy...

  • Awesome! Just Awesome!

  • I was very ... very drunk.

  • It's Kieth Richards lol

  • I think he's whacking at the class system there. Something Python would be hypocrytical to do. That's why he's the king of British comedy! No student union there! Made it on his own. Enfield had to bow!

  • Yes, because if you are not from the working classes you are automatically a hypocrite if you make fun of the class system. Well done you for such an infallible argument. Although you might try typing in "Four Yorkshiremen" into youtube and then proclaiming that one of the most immitated sketches of all time was done by a bunch of hypocrites to really put the cherry on your intellectual cake.

  • Hahahaha, spot on! Glad you stepped in there. If you hadn't, I would have.

  • actually, python consistently bashed the class system, hence pontius pilate, king arthur, the upper class twits of the year...

and whitehouse himself has described the fast show as "the pythons of the mtv generation". without python, the fast show would never have been born.

  • lol I had a teacher who spoke like that in primary school, don't know if he was drunk though :D

    Whitehouse rocks!

  • paul whitehouse ur a legend nuff sed

  • He IS genius, knowing how to play both teenagers and geezers :)

  • @Leila8able the gezzer is a legend, time for a knighthood one thinks !

  • @uberglocken

    Yeee rrrite! :)

  • @Leila8able arise sir paul and dame leila8able !

  • bilbo

  • Reminds me of Horis Slughorn from the new Harry Potter movie!

  • Harry who??? Sad!!!

  • coming across a bit arrogant there lol

  • Sorry I was on a bit of a rampage there....

  • Yes, that was VERY hypocritical of me. xD

  • lmao yea

  • The best character from the best and cleverest British comedy show ever seen. Fantastic and very much missed. Doing Rowley is one of my party pieces. (Not a patch on Paul, though!)

  • So funny, Paul is a Comedy genius

  • PAUL WHITEHOUSE

    COMEDY LEDGEND

  • I wish I was drunk.

    Oh yeah, that reminds me.

  • This reminds me SO MUCH of Bertrand Russell. Anyone reckon that might be part of the inspiration behind this?

  • thats the point, he is drunk whilst telling the story and all the time.

  • he is funniest in fast show!!!

  • I like the part where he says "We were very very drunk"

  • I like the part where he says "riffg fragdhh djjfj fkdkfd skdsksd dkdkd"

  • I like the part where he says "I'm an attention seeking smart ass"

  • EPIC WIN! :D

  • What a legend, funny old bugger lol

  • in the village and ahh rallyhoshalnumfanern baum and erringflumm and i was very drunk

  • Lmao. You're not supposed to understand - that's the point.

  • i hope hes jokin lol

  • They Are Very FUNNY! Anyone who disagrees is smelly.

  • I think I went to life drawing classes with his sister.

  • I'm sure I used to work for this guy.

  • urgh..urgh...one girl was very badly burnt!

  • i was at work a few years back ... i fell very hard on a wobbly floor ... i was very badly hurt .... i thought oooh ! call the ambulance chasers .? compensation ! Nice !!

then i reolised ? i was already rich ! and badly burnt ! and the canoe was made ? out of marzipane !! so .. i left a comment on you tube !!!! i was ..very VERY DRUNK at the time x

  • This is an absolutely true, replica of an old geezer Paul Whitehouse actually met in a hotel. Look up the story. Theres a youtubevideo of him disscussing it.

  • i was crying when i saw this on the tv

  • this was on last night!

  • love it ^^

  • Love the character.

  • This is hilarious!!!

  • Loved this show x ty x

  • Fucking genius. The Fast Show is the greatest sketch show of all time. Bar none.

  • they are a very good comedy group but lets not forget who isnpired them to make it possible and that monty python, they used many of their sketches as templates, for example the 'suit you sir' sketch is a lot like the 'nudge nudge' sketch in monty python.

  • and also pay respect to reeves and mortimer, said to be the best comedians of the generation by paul whitehouse himself.

  • They're awful....

  • Go Away and Never comment back!

  • exactly, he's hilarious

  • I cracked my head sharply on the furniture rgrhrgrgrgrgowhwhgjk lol

  • "I was called on in my capacity as ihfowgoaogdogfopwhwje."

    So funny :')

  • my favourite part of the sketch! lol

  • My Grandfather is like this.

  • i implore everyone to try and see the one where he talks about the love he lost during the war...it is so poignant..it turns a funny character into a legend

  • Heh. I'm actually trying to find that sketch right now, came across this comment.

I couldn't agree more. I was living in a shared house at the time, the whole room was waiting in silence.

It showed another, straight-acting side to Paul Whitehouse's already impressive talents; beyond being a player behind some of the great UK TV comedy successes of the 1990s.

  • he's like me

  • ndjofgdkdldnvfij...Splendid!

  • It says on Wikipedia - `Whitehouse revealed on the UK chatshow Parkinson that the idea for the character came from someone he met in Iceland`.

  • I think the last of these sketches is amazing. The one where he's remembering why he's always drunk... so brilliantly acted. I can't help thinking about it when I watch these, although they still make me laugh! Paul Whitehouse is a genius

  • its Rowley Birkin QC funny as f@ck love the fast show!!!!!

  • Does anyone know the name of the guy this is based on? He really does talk like that, he was on some show commenting on 'The Fast Show', and the likeness was uncanny. Can't remember the guy's name though, anyone know?

  • Andrew Rollo.

  • He was on a documentary about the Fast Show. I saw it too.

Buggered if I can remember the bastard's monicker though.

So, erm... it's actually fairly pointless me writing this as it goes.

    Bollocks.

  • i was very very drunk

  • Does anyone know if the one where she died in his arms is on here? Can't find it :(

  • That's the one I want to see too

  • ...reminds me off my grandad lmao..

aint seen the fast show in ages..

    good ol' british comady:D

  • I know and old farmer just like this.

I gave up drinking as a new years resolution! Nowt to do with me slurred speech-honest! ☺

  • i knew an old army officer who spoke like this, completely mad as a fish to boot

  • whenever im drunk and bored i just do random impressions of this guy. always livens things up a bit.

  • Just excellent - loved the Fast Show - Paul Whitehouse is just so talented and his observations are so subtle - loved this set too - it made the scene!

  • my name is dave and this reminds me of myself, my mates rip me because i talk alot of bollocks like him. anyone like scurfing?

  • Never get bored of that!!!!!!!!!

  • Beautiful.

  • He reminds me of the old bloke you see in the corner of the pub that traps you at the end of the night lol God Bless em !!

  • Yeah one like that in my local, but you can understand him easier when drunk.

  • Oldest game in the world innit.

  • lol reminds me of the bloke from Father TEd

  • That is exactly what I thought!!! I love Father Ted! The old guy who was always drunk and pretty much the only thing he'd ever say was "Drink!".
