  • oh gosh, that ain't no goju sanchin...

  • Why is he practising sanchin with a sai?

  • why not!!

  • there are many many sai kata. and different ryu also practice different kata. but there are four kata commen to most ryuha. these are (in practicing order) hamahiga no sai, tsuken shita haku, chatanyara no sho and chatanyara no dai. note that each kata is a complete fightingsysteem!!! so when you practice sai-jutsu according to hamahiga sensei from hamahiga village. you can spend a lifetime on that kata. because it has got many layers. but you reveal the next layer only throug hars practice. osu

  • Thanks a lot for your information, I understand much better now.

  • Please help! I practice shotokan karate and want to started training with sai so I want to learn a kata, but what kata do I start with? what is the order of sai kata? I searched the internet for hours with no answer.

  • i also reccomend a teacher.

  • at first you have to buy the great karate mith, then you understand the karate system, the kobudo system. For completion you will need judo sistem and boxe or kick boxe, savate for sparring. that's all

  • @MattNinja2 I agree with kaifinn - find a good sensei or sifu. I will tell you though that almost anything you can do empty-handed, you can do with a sai. Try doing the taikyoku kata with sais. Don't worry about flipping them. Just hold them with like you're going to strike with the butt for reverse punches and turn the forearm to the outside to do low blocks and/or high blocks with the shaft of the weapon.

  • Nice....I like it !

  • haha, u disappeared at hte end! lol

  • tekki/naihanchin/naifuanchin is a grappling kata; not a weapons form.

  • Excellent stuff; where did you learn that an uechi-based/open-hand sanchin was for sai? Nathan Johnson and his Ko-do Ryu karate club has been saying this for some years but many clubs still doubt this fact.

  • there are many karatekata that have a weapon variation. for example tekki shodan is also done with tonfa and sai. and hangestu with kama. it is said that it helps to understand the 4 elements better.

  • This version of Sanchin seems more like Goju-ryu than Uechi.
