Prairie dogs do not ruin crops. They eat a small amount of indigenous weeds, not even enough to cause any significant impact on the food available for grazing livestock. I did live in Winner, SD for two years, surrounded by these things. No one ever made a claim that there were threatening diseases being spread by them. There are a lot of them, but they didn't cause any problems for the cattle ranchers. If you want to shoot for fun, shoot something inanimate.
If you have problems with them, do what it takes to keep them out, not what it takes to kill them. They don't kill us for being around. I fully understand hunting for the purpose of acquiring food, but I don't understand, nor do I agree with killing just for fun or for getting rid of "nuisance" animals. If they're doing what they can to get food or shelter, and you're killing them, you're the nuisance, not them. If you have to, just find a way to keep them both away and out.

@TheCoolfez on average they have 3 litters of around 6 per year, yes there are other methods but you can kill other non pests with them. this is one of the cheapest and most humane way of killing them. plus i will admit it's fun

I shot Prairie dogs in Wyoming with a 22 rifle before we went out for Deer and Antelope on a sheep ranch. It didn't seem like it that hard to hit them with a 4 power scope. This seems extreme to me.

@TheCoolfez on average they have 3 litters of around 6 per year, yes there are other methods but you can kill other non pests with them. this is one of the cheapest and most humane way of killing them. plus i will admit it's fun

I shot Prairie dogs in Wyoming with a 22 rifle before we went out for Deer and Antelope on a sheep ranch. It didn't seem like it that hard to hit them with a 4 power scope. This seems extreme to me.
