  • Omg, Patrick's feet. <3 Not his biggest fan, but I think I finally understand. His basic skating is phenomenal.

  • Shawn Sawyer and Joey Russell .... they sure appreciated good skating...they were all smiles.. that is what good sportsmanship is all about..

  • One of the greatest male skaters ever... He has everything. I'm just amazed by his performance. So brilliant. It's so good to see young skaters with this technical and artistic level... Once you have known past generations, people tend to say, no one is going to skate like them, blablabla... And then comes this new generation, which makes me drop my jaw... I'm such a fan. Congratulations. And thanks for the post.

  • it doesn't matter which country he is from , doesn't matter what kind of blood he is mixed with

it only means he is a human who is delivering something to all the others by representing himself

    support him

  • tears in my eyes

once you know these stars stories behind you will cry

human are not easy in life

    sigh...

  • He doesn't offer much except quads. I find other skaters much, much more engaging and enjoyable to watch.

  • chan and takahashi fan!!!!

  • FLAWLESS O_O

  • I used to skate JUST LIKE THAT...until i took an arrow to the knee. :'(

  • huge fan!

  • huge fan

  • That was just amazing, brilliant, wow!

  • holy sugar. He practically flies on ice.

  • who could dislikethis...??? they must be really jealous :S'

  • he is SO SMOOTH! Really beautiful to watch.

  • His parents look so disappointed I mean I don't even think they were clapping...

  • @bleachster123 I know iw as like umm ?

  • he really attempt to be the best in the quadruple !1

  • Everyone has said all the +ves for him so I will write a bit of -ves. He has effortless skating, jumps, and step works, but I think he could work more on his spins and artistry. The big concern i have for him is that he doesn't have the originality, at least, not yet. When I see him skate, i wouldn't go and say "yes, that's patrick!" If i see other fig skater's like Plushenko's, Yagudin's, Takahashi's, Lambiel's, Weir's, I can tell their skating. Maybe Chan's skating is a bit "manual-like"?

  • @yi81 just see his face and im sure you can say that he is patrick.. LOL.. every skater i think is so unique.. just appreciate chan's skating capablities and im sure you can see the difference between these skaters.. that is for sure..

  • do guys not incorporate the spiral into their routine anymore?

  • Here is the CBC FS version.. all you needed to list was cbc men's long program... sometimes it's easy as that...sometimes you can't find anything no matter how hard you try..anyhow..here it is

  • Im proud to be Canadian. HE DID A QUAD!<33 i remember watchin him at the olympics i was freakin out n he slipped on a triple. NOW HE CAN DO A QUAD! thats amazing. im so proud. :D

  • I'm amazed by the flawlessness of Patrick Chan's jumps!

  • he was AMAZING...!

  • my best friend is friends with this guy i might meet him thumbs up for his skating

  • bravo.

  • i skate with patrick chan!!!

  • every creature on the planet would love this performance.

  • Wow.

  • I think he might take the world title. I watched all programs from the best 20 skaters, and I can say it is Patrick Chan and Takahashi who are most likely to take it. Takahashi had problems landing his first quad, so if he fails to do that in the worlds as well, then Patrick has the title, however, if both perform flawlessly...then boy oh boy judges are gonna have a hard time deciding. However, I would say that Takahashi has better presentation that might just give him the edge.

  • it's great, but it's funny how much these people gush about Lori Nichol, I mean I think they say it like 5 times in this video, it's like they're her ad department. They probably give out better choreography marks just for having her name on your coaches list. Ugh.

  • @niceiceskating She is a great choreographer.

  • @filipinoICEsk8ter That she might be, but it seems like they gush over her all the time like she's the only choreographer out there. I wish the skaters had to make their own programs, it would at least make it more interesting, especially considering everyone needs to get a "Nicol" program to hope and pray for component marks. I'm sure half the competition is done by her, and the top skaters like Patrick get their programs paid for by the federation, (sometimes up to 10,000 per program). Crazy.

  • @niceiceskating I know. Lori Nichol and David Wilson are known though. And they are Canadian citizens. Lori Nichol had a lot of skaters in the Olympics also. I don't think the Federation would pay that much for one Choreography, It's usually the students who pay them. Their federation would lose money that way. I have friends who had her and David Wilson as a Choreographer, and it's a lot of money just for choreography. I agree, skaters should choreograph their own to make things interesting.

  • Perfection. You can't get any better than this :D

  • OMG! I love you Patrick Chan!!! <3 <3 <3

  • Patrick Chan does the most beautiful quad toe. Love the choreography. Hes definitely going to win gold if he performs like this at worlds.

  • It's gonna be a fight for the Gold at worlds.

  • lol just loved how his mom looks like she has no idea what the hack is happening.

His parents didn't even smile or clap during or after the perfomance, they are very very humble people

  • As Ryan Bradley said of himself, "one year too late!" This would be the OGM if this was one year ago. Simply brilliant and flawless! The 3T-half loop-3S was a combo according to the new rule change, not an error, nor a sequence. It gets full score for (3T+1L+3S)81.1 as it was done in the later half of the progam, huge scores! Joannie could have got a couple of more scores if the rue had been in place during the olympic year. she got (3T+3S)*0.8*1.1 I believe.

  • That´s true, in the protocols the half loop appears as a 1Lo because it receives the base value of a 1Lo.

  • just a side note on the triple toe half loop triple salchow combination .... i think this year the half-loop in the combination counts as a single loop in the scoring ... since, after all, the half loop is a 360 rotation ... some skaters in the past have used this combination ... surya bonaly in her 1994 worlds free skate and some other occasion, Tara Lipinski 1998 olympics free skate, maria butryskaia in the 2002 winter olympics free skate, joannie rochette last season.

  • Great, but not perfect as had a bit of trouble with one jump combination.

  • @mdf1960 um... which combo? they were all done properly!?

  • @adamzapple666 At 3:15 he singles the second jump of a 3 jump combo. A small error, correct?

  • @mdf1960 no. that is a turn.. if not, how to do salchow? i also thought that was wrong when i saw joannie rochette doing that. but i found out that that was the 3-turn before going into salchow

  • @sumimimi0 OK, thanks for the correction. I doubt if he can repeat this performance at Worlds, however. (Remember Jeremy Abbott's problems last year after his sensational performance at Nationals?)

  • @sumimimi0 you are correct it was not a mistake, but the connecting move was a half loop, not a 3-turn. Wiki: A related jump in figure skating is the half loop. In spite of its name, it is a full rotation jump. It differs from a regular loop jump in that it is landed on the opposite foot, on a backward inside edge. Half loops are only done as single jumps, and are primarily used as connecting elements in a jump sequence, before a salchow jump or flip jump which take off from a back inside edge.

  • @mdf1960 No, it's not an error. It's a half-loop.

  • If he competed that same exact program in an ISU competition, he would break an all time record. That was the craziest program I've seen from him. It was by far the best I've seen all season. It will be a battle at worlds.

  • Canada is PROUD of you Mr Chan!!!!

  • This guy isnt human.

  • Brilliant.

  • He will be the world champion if he skates like that !

  • god !! i should have been there to watch this !! cant believe i missed it !!!

  • beautiful,

    step is amazing.

    perfect 4 revolution.

  • my sort of friend gets to skate with him!! he's practicing at the same arena she goes to for a week. ^^

  • Wow. That was incredible. I've some some great skates in my time, and that's one of them. However, the problem with being so brilliant at Nationals is keeping it up at Worlds. However, has Chan has had a fairly good season, so hopefully he can keep it up.

  • The circular step sequence, beginning at 4:30 is simply stunning. However, the 15 seconds before that, the program almost dies. Weird. But he's finally got it together. Hope he can hold onto it for the next three years.

  • I think if this was old system it would've been a skate that had 6.0's not only for artistic but also for technical merit. Truly Unbelievable skate.

  • at 5:14 is that him spining like that or the camera movement

  • @014trainman That's all him - he's a great spinner!

  • Gripping stuff It's programs like these that will bring back fans that figure skating has lost over the years. I'm South African and we certainly don't have any where the quality of skater that Chan is(and probably never will) it is still great to see what's possible

  • Phenomenal performance!! I still feel there's room to improve by embodying the character more fully, especially emoting more. Physically Patrick could slick his hair back to visually mimick the Phantom more closely and I'd love to see a costume change. I think these improvements would put this already untouchable performance to one we'll be talking about long after Patrick's skating career.

  • Patrick, I'm speechless. You gave me endless goosebumps and chills all the way through. That performance was just golden. I'm just so proud of you. I think that you have great potential to be an international superstar and an Olympic champion in the future. You are already incredibly talented, and you will just keep growing as a skater. I hope that Andrew Lloyd Webber sees this performance and is proud of what you did with his most popular music.

Thank you Patrick, with all my heart.

  • Somewhere Ozzie is smiling :)

  • this could be an Olympic GOLD medal performance ! :)

  • That was amazing, I have no problem with his scores when he skates like that! The only possible improvement would be to get in the 3 jump combo!

  • @BigB0882 Actually, the triple lutz/salchow sequence is scored as three jump combo, and he can only do one.

  • @Proustable Oh, that is right! I forgot about this rule change! Thanks, then it was as good as he can do!!

  • lovely!! Patrick is perfect! Perfect jumps, perfect everything! I look forward to see him represent Canadians in Worlds!

  • whoa... His parents look nothing like him...

  • Nice job Patrick ! I'm happy for you :D

  • so glad he gave this performance. i've been against him all season since the judges has been overmarking him to hell and back despite his constant falls. but if he can skate like this at worlds, he should easily establish himself as the world's top skater.

  • man. if he did this at the olympics... he would have killed !

  • Amazing performance and song!!

  • OMG he won by a margin of like 50 points.

patrick = the epitome of graceful sexiness on ice.

  • his little footwork was amazing,

why couldn't do this at the Olympics

  • wow that was epic. i got shivers watching that!

  • OMG...

    It was just amazing!

    Goooo Patrick!!

  • Seriously I don't understand much about figure skating, but this was so wonderful! *-*

  • Easily....easily EASILY the greatest free skate in the history of the sport. Unreal!!

The speed, the polish, the presentation, the quality of movement, plus 2 quads, one in combo

  • I wish someone would post the CBC version and not the Bold version. I would rather hear Kurt and Tracey with their sparce and appropriate comments than the chattering on this video. Doesn't someone have the CBC Sports video?

  • @1867TrueNorth this is from CBC Sports. someone else uploaded the Bold version (in HD!). so unless someone has a DVR recording of it, we're out of luck, it seems.

  • @MagZness Someone loaded the CBC version with Kurt and Tracy. Love their reactions and it's a pleasure not to have to listen to these women. I appreciate that you loaded this for so many to enjoy, it's just that I don't like to hear talking all the way through.

  • @1867TrueNorth send me a message with the link?

  • @1867TrueNorth Agree! I like Tracey and Kurt's comments much better. Weird thing is that even on CBC website I can only see this Bold version. Fortunately I watched CBC live last night. Kurt and Tracey were just quiet after the second quad. And that was appropriate comment.

  • @1867TrueNorth I'd love to have the CBC video too. I don't like it when the commentators talk too much, because you can't enjoy the performance.

  • @1867TrueNorth

But at least it's nice to hear Josee Chouinard

  • @1867TrueNorth Here is the CBC version w Kurt & Tracey

  • 5:28 - His parents aren't impressed.

  • I´ve noticed that too, maybe they don´t like FS very much but I hope they support Patrick. :((((((

  • I gave up my favorite stuffy for Patrick chan... Your lucky Patrick bc I miss my stuffy so much it was so special to me!!!!!!

  • @MadZiggyStardust Do you want us believe this is the most complex program that a skater will ever skate in the history of FS? Are you joking? Imagine what will be 10 or 20 years from now. We can see quints or God knows. A program isn´t great because of his technical elements, technique is developing constantly, after some time Chan´s programs will look just as outdated as Winter or any other program skated in the past.

    SimonaCB Hace 1 segundo.

  • @SimonaCB History is defined as what happened in the past, not as what's going to happen in the future. ;) And I'm not a fortune teller either. ;)

And I was talking about the complexity of the entire program as a whole, and not particular elements (although they were all very well performed). I actually wouldn't be surprised if we only ever saw a few programs of similar difficulty.

  • @MadZiggyStardust This program is more complex than programs of the past just like programs of the future

will be more complex than this one, you don´t have to be a fortune teller to know it, you simply have to look at how FS is constantly changing. I can show you programs of Dick Button, for example, which are as complex as this one, but I´m afraid you don´t understand a performance should be judged in the context of his time.

  • @SimonaCB Yes, we will see skaters executing even harder jumps in the future but that's beside the point. The point is that this kind of quality of basic skating, which allows him to have tons of transitions connecting all the elements together (because he generates speed so easily) is very rarely seen and I doubt we will see much of it in the future. We might not even ever see it again. The vast majority of skaters (whether now or in the past) don't do much besides stroking into their elements.

  • @SimonaCB And if you can show me a Dick Button's program that's anywhere near as complex, I would love to see it. :P

  • @MadZiggyStardust I did not say Button programs were as complex as Patrick´s programs, Dick Button skated 50 years ago, figure skating changed a lot since 50s, but both Button and Chan have made their contributions, Button in the past and Chan, now, in the present. I have no doubt we´ll see amazing skaters in the future too, which it does not mean that Chan,Button, Boitano, etc, were not great.

  • I saw it live everyone was on there feet before he even finished... it was the best skate I have ever seen.

  • I like the way he skates good and stuff

  • I love when he smiles at 4:58

  • WOW!ヽ(゚◇゚ )ノ

    excellent!

  • 5 people are unable to see the beauty in figure skating.

  • Amazing!

I pray that he can repeat this performance at the world championships and that he didn't peak too soon.

  • Patrick is an inspiration and wonderful role model.

  • amazing! wish i was there in the stadium in victoria. go patrick!

  • wowowowowoww

  • This guy amkes me proud to be Canadian . :)

  • The 4 dislikes are: Shawn, Joey, Kevin and Elladj

  • OMG PAT CHAN! YOU'RE INSANE! I LOVE THE WAY YOU MOVE ON ICE LIKE WIND! I LOVE YOUR ENERGY! I LOVE YOUR PASSION! OMG!!! YOU'RE GORGEOUS!!! INCREDIBLE INCREDIBLE INCREDIBLE! ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤

  • I'm not usually a fan of Patrick's skating, but this was fantastic! Good to see him gaining consistency - hopefully he'll keep it for Worlds. :3

Really wish the (esp. Canadian) judges would knock it off with the crazy scores, though. No program in the world is worth 197, and they know it as well as I do... it's kind of a buzzkill to see even a wonderful performance overscored that much.

  • WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Quite simply the most amazing mens free skate program I have ever seen

  • Phenomenal! A true masterpiece.

  • HOW can 4 people dislike this?!? Obviously blind. Patrick Chan - Phenomenal

  • NO NO NO I MISSED THIS ON TV.

    STUPID EXAMSSS.

  • Patrick is the Alexei Yagudin of his generation!

  • @lb1309 Huh? I think I don't get the comparison.

  • One of the best programs I've EVER seen!

  • My Lord, that was just brilliant. I saw the link on Twitter and immediately came to check him out. That was such a passionate performance, like singing an aria! Just wonderful, gave me chills.

  • that was beautiful

  • Oh my gosh, no one had a chance against Patrick. That was such a beautifully done routine, I actually cried when he was finished. He's amazing. I believe, if he continues to do this well in competition, he'll get gold, or at least a medal in Sochi 2014.

  • Holy crap. He sure wasn't doing this last time I saw him.

  • @JeniferEmily Indeed he wasn't! WOW!! THAT was great!

  • WOW WOW WOW, simply the best...

  • Very clean skate wow.

  • OMG! I would give him 10 for the skating skills, he's flying!

  • interesting for such points

  • brilliant program chjrepgraphy and execution!!!

  • tasteful costume!!!

  • one triple axel is enough.. but two quads.. Insane!! Go Patrick!

  • 1triple axel??? hahaha...

  • 2 quads???? LOL

  • 2 quads???? LOL..

  • @kimosa1127 Hope he cleans up his axel. It's just weird to see a skater land three clean quads in competition and still struggle on easier jumps.

  • This is more like floating,,, than skating. Anyhow elegant!!

  • He will be world champion at Tokyo.

  • Before I wasn't a big fan of Chan, but yikes, this was amazing!

  • The most technically difficult program I've ever seen. No one can top a performance like that. Just unbelievable.

  • @varzabarza Not the most technically difficult... there have been a lot of programs with 3 quads, or 2 quads + 2 3as, or larger combinations. But him and Kevin Reynolds probably have the most difficult programs this season. :)

  • @maovays

I know, I know but I wasn't thinking of just the jumps in that program.

  • @maovays It's arguably the most difficult. Transitions before and after the jumps, the constant footwork, the footwork sequences themselves, no resting. Come on, give it to him this once people!

  • @jl22aries I'll definitely agree with you that it was the best this season, I just don't agree that no skater has done that before or skated more difficult programs. But I don't want to argue over his big moment, so - let's just agree that it was pretty fantastic. ;)

  • @maovays Name one program, more complex than this, skated to this standard then.

  • @MadZiggyStardust I find it difficult to pick between styles, and 'more complex' is complicated by the fact that skaters excel in different ways. So these might not be to your taste, and in a sport as subjective as this, it's all arguable. :3 But personally, I would say Yagudin's Winter, Takahashi's Cyberswan, Plushenko's Nijinsky and Tango Flamenco (and his performance @ the 2001 GPF is, to me, one of the most technically impressive). But of course, Patrick is still young, and growing!

  • @maovays See, the point here is that Chan excels at absolutely everything (well as long as he doesn't fall 3 times) and there weren't really any weak points in that performance.

None of the programs you mentioned were anywhere near as complex in terms of transitions or program layout. And I don't remember them ever being performed with all the technical elements executed to such a high standard either.

  • @MadZiggyStardust I guess it's a matter of opinion. I find his strong points to be transitions, spins, and footwork, while his jumps are still lacking in steadiness and confidence when he lands them and his artistry has yet to reach (I hope) the limits of its potential. To me he doesn't show the ease and grace exemplified in the programs below, nor the jumping content. So I hold reservations about calling any of his programs the greatest.. I've seen too many individual elements executed better.

  • @maovays how about a better combination of those elements?

  • @MadZiggyStardust But I want to add that I think confidence and stability will probably come as he ages and gains consistency (if he hasn't already - his last two competitions have gone pretty well, I'd say!). I just wouldn't be too quick to hand him the crown now, because I think his real glory is still ahead of him. :3

  • Comment removed

  • so excited!! 2quads + incredible skateing!?!

  • AMAZING!!!!!!!!

  • Oh My God

  • If Patrick skates like this at Worlds then he will be nearly impossible to beat. A top performance from Brian Joubert wouldn't come close to this program.

  • @jarwillnc Joubert, really? Joubert's SO far behind Chan, Takahashi, Kozuka, Oda, Abbott, Rippon, Verner......c'mon!!!

  • @cheburashka19 I only mentioned Joubert because he still thinks he's has a shot with a clean program. Personally I think Joubert should have retired at the end of last season. He will never grow artistically to the level of other top skaters.

  • @cheburashka19 I only mentioned Joubert because he thinks he still has a shot at the top with a clean program. Personally I think Joubert should have retired at the end of last season. He will never grow artistically to the level of other top competitors.

  • @jarwillnc Absolutely. He really should have retired...anyway I can't wait to see how they'll all do at worlds:)

  • @cheburashka19 I don´t like Joubert but he should retire when he wants to. It´s not a shame to challenge yourself. People said the same thing about him after the 2006 Olys and he won a lot of medals since then. They said the same after the Vancouver Olys and he won a bronze medal in Worlds. Who are you to decide when should have Joubert retired? If you don´t like his programs you are free to use the remote control while he´s skating!

  • わお!!!!

  • Just WOW!

  • woww. This performance is one of the best in the History.

  • Christy Krall is the best damn coach in the world!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Just fantastic!

  • excellent!

  • I love how Patrick interprets the music! His performance is so charming!!!

  • Fantastic skate. WOW,2 quads, triple axel, and lots and lots of other triples, footwork to die for, and spins, Wow. This will be hard to beat if he skates like this at Worlds.
