LMAO @:Bruce impersonating the Yorkshire accent! "When I were a lad, I could lift up 5 navvies on the end of a shovel!" "Am' a Yorkshire man, a' can tak' it!" haha xD
By 'eck me old cronies, I miss em so bloody much. Drinkin down't pub, 15 pints of Yorkshire bitter. Pride & ego my lad, pride & ego. I could lift 5 navvies on t'ent of shovel, etc...!
My Claim to fame is that I met Rod Smallwood in the mens toilets at the hammersmith appolo a few years back during a maiden clive burr fund raising gig. He held open the toilet door for me, what a gent:P
I remember when this came out. The only band with a good sense of humour. I loved it then and I love it now. Your's 74 year old English metal git! Up the Irons. Still going looooolz. You young guys love this band as they are the b(e)ast i have ever seen and i saw elvis & the rolling stones live. New ears please. Thanks Maiden.
i saw Rod at Sonisphere as he was walking through the security area.
I whacked out a few piss take lines in the style of this song. He just creased up laughing, tis good to know he prob went to the band after the gig and said "Some fan starting the piss out of me like you lot. Thats from that damned b-side you did."
@DrummingAnimal Haha yeah. Well, he must love it. I mean, how many other band's managers can you name? All the true Maiden fans know his name, and most know it because of this track.
I was born in Huddersfield, but I've been living in Brazil since I was 1 year old. I'm a brazilian born in England. I root for Clube Atlético Mineiro, founded in 1908, as well as Huddersfield Town Athletic Football Club. Unfortunately, both clubs don't have great teams.
Does anyone know if Iron Maiden ever did a song called The Football song?
Put in Volbeat The Football song in the search engine & have a listen & see if it isn't a British song like this. I use to live in England 20 yrs. ago & thought I heard this song over there & thought Maiden may have done it. I am going to put the song in the search by its self & see what comes up.
I still have this song on a "Hot metal" sampler casette including "Wasted Years" and "Reachout" It was a promo for "Somewhere in time" from A&A records for 99cents with any Iron Maiden purchase.
@xxoleevexx haha i know right.. yeah i dont see him often at all. lol its not like he ever comes back to huddersfield. i mean hudds is a shit hole.. but its the best shit hole there is :p
The always funny Nicko McBrain. The band kept this song a secret from their manager Rod Smallwood until it appeared on the b-side of Wasted Years in the stores. He moved to Los Angeles and complained to the band how he disliked living there so they make fun of him in the lyrics and Nicko pretends he is Rod. Should have been on an album instead in my opinion :-) A very cool song based on "life in the city" by Adrian Smiths Urchin. Rod Smallwood was surprised but had a good laught at it :-)

It's Nicko doing an impression of Rod. He does the same on Flight 666.
mikey5time 2 years ago
According to the "Listen with Nicko" segment on the 10th anniversary re-issue of this, it was Bruce impersonating Rod.
I'll have to dig out my old 10th anniversary set again.
