i imagine that those mountains are so high, you could fit new york city down there and it would look like a small gray smear in between the ridges. thats how deep and thats how high the trench is!
@GriffithAMPS It was in January 23rd 1960. It was Swiss-designed and built in Italy. Acquired by the US. Navy. manned by Jacques Piccard (who co-designed the submersible along with his father, Auguste Piccard) and USN Lieutenant Don Walsh. Look it up on Wikipedia - Challenger Deep ;P
Wow- I didn't appreciate that it looked like that - I always assumed it was simply the lowest point of a deep trench, not an enormous hole like that. That's crazy.
hello well i had an idea and no i dont want to do it its just something i thought was interesting look up the tsar bomba the words largest H-Bomb test 50 megatons now what i was wondering was suppsoe you made one say 100megatons sent it to the very bottom of the mariana trench and detonated it what would happen and would it compare to the sunami or surpass it like i said i wouldent do it but tell me what you guys think and dont be shy with the mail
i mean, what would be required for that depth?

To me Mariana Trench is very enigmtic place. Just wonder how it looks like down there.

i think humans have been to the bottom of the trench only once, in 1962 a joint French-American exploration on the French two man sub Trieste

@MeLikeGeiter yeah, wasn't sure about the date, but Swiss design...I always thought it was a French design. Learn something new everyday.:)
