  • I remember the first time I heard this. Laying on the parents livingroom floor with my masive 1960's Wharfdale Earphones. Listening to Kenny Everett's Radio Luxembourg Radio Show.

I went straight down to the record shop the next day and "ordered" the Album. Still have it :)

  • its a bold statement but this is my favorite song of all time...and it has been for years

  • TOO GOOD.

  • this song kicks ass...

doesn't matter how you got here, it's good you're here

  • The Almost Famous soundtrack :)

  • This is one of my top 10 songs with out a doubt of the 70s. I head it on Almost Famouse for the first time...Absoltutly Amasing song.

  • In 1971 (at Christmas) I discovered my 50 y.o. Dad leaning outside my bedroom listening to this on the QT. He just smiled and asked me when I'd discovered the flute.

  • The best Beach Boys song not writed by Brian Wilson!!!

  • Ok, think I'm lame if you want, but I've said since I was a teen that my favorite song was "Head Over Heels" by Tears For Fears. I listen to this and I wonder if I should dethrone that song and replace it with this.... but then I listen more closely and it's damn near the same song. "Some-thing-happens and I'm" ... "white hot glistening shadowy flows".... Listen to both. But all hail the Beach Boys. *^^^^^^^^^* < campfire

  • @Fizzy5pringwater I am on board with you regarding "Head Over Heels". My favorite line from that song is "I wanted to be with you alone/ And talk about the weather." My girlfriend introduced me to this song and I was immediately hooked. They are both truly amazing and deep songs that will stand the test of time.

  • I was fixing up a old sailboat when i heard that carl wilson had died and it was a sad time all around, i was a clinton staff person and had bought the boat the day after the monica revelation....while fixing it one night after work, i heard about carl...i heard this song for the first time that week and named the boat after the song. Most people didnt understand the boat name, but I knew what it meant...

  • @whatwouldbrianwilson What a story, bet she's a beauty.

  • Carl Wilson could write magic too...

  • what the heaven

  • what the hell

  • For 35 years I was in the military and during the last 20 years I carried this song on a CD with a note that said "If I am dieing, please play this for me and hold up the picture of my wife so I can see her one last time". Happy to say that did not happen, I retired in Dec 2010. I threw the CD away and put the wifes pic up on the wall next to my retirement paperwork. Glad I made it, hope that you achieve your dreams as well.

  • the start of this song is just incredible, i cant even express in words of what this song makes me feel

  • @leoandjurge That awesome dude :)

  • @leoandjurge I cried... ohmygod... someone give this man a medal!!!!!!

  • @leoandjurge f@$k man apologising for my language. With the respect that my great grandfather would have spoken with, an english soldier who served on a horse in WW1 and was refused service as too old after he tried to enrol in for WW2 as a 50 year old in 1939 after he'd emigrated to "The Quiet Side of the World" as he called it, I salute your service. I'm just a simple man from New Zealand, My grandaddy served alongside USMC in the Pacific and always said Thank God for decent men

  • @leoandjurge THANK YOU your words give me a lot of hope, in hard times thank you again an God bless u and your family . You have a friend in Campeche Mexico.

  • @leoandjurge glad you made it man.

  • my fav album from the beach boys... gotta love it

  • Brilliance.

  • So i love this song, by far my favorite beach boys. Also almost famous is one of my top 3 favorite movies of all time.

But I gotta set the record straight, the song is about masturbating, it kinda bummed me out at first to hear that and then listen to it. Now I'm pretty over it and can listen in good health. Just don't be mistaken, it's for sure about beating it.

  • okay i cant remember for the life of me, during what scene does this play during almost famous? i feel like its near the begining...

  • I feel like dancing in the woods

  • Almost Famous! *--------------*

  • Such a beautiful song. But what is the song about ? I don't get it.

  • @3434aaaa,

The song is about human feelings. (Unfolding, enveloping missiles of soul). They come and go. They flow. (White hot glistening shadowy flows). Sometimes they are powerful (Engulfs all the senses), inspiring (Whether hope dampens memory), confusing (Whether wondrous will stands tall at my side). They are the true essence of the soul (Unbending never ending tablets of time Record all the yearning) and are eased by divinity (Unfearing all appearing message divine Eases the burning).

  • @3434aaaa Whatever you wan't it to be thats the beauty of a song, but I take it as life progressions the ups and downs and still smiling with it all.

  • the melody goes like a perfect rollercoaster track and the lyrics are the rollercoaster. perfect music that doesnt repeat much.

  • Wow! These lyrics are amaZING!! Crazy genius human mind!

  • Thanks for this rare one The Beach boys Forever

  • Five almost alive vote very vacuous hearts

    To fool their own senses

Mortal misery masked delivery of the divine

    Reinforced fences

    Whether lyrics transcend comprehension

    Whether lies mangle memory

Where the cold heart doesn't manage at all

Fools flow (Stone cold lusterless dust only blows)

Fools go (Ice cold lusterless dust only knows)

  • @CGSeever ,

Two highly appreciative phalanges upright despite,

    A genre most quickly despised;

    Transformed with lyrical insight,

    The most superb species devised.

    Congratulations.

  • 2:57 Most clean/relaxing bridge EVER played..this song is amazing, it can calm me down from nearly anything

  • An absolute MASTERPIECE...of time, space, feel, form, emotion and spirit!

  • er Carl Wilson and jack Reiley in this case - not brian

  • This really shows how poetic The Beach Boys' lyrics could be. I was really surprised to learn that they wrote this. Brian Wilson, you crazy genius. :)

  • @GiantPetRat I agree... Brian Wilson is a crazy genius. This song was written by Carl Wilson and Jack Reiley, though... Hello to a fellow Beach Boys fan !!

  • simply magic,people....

  • this is such a great song. it could be a beatles song.

  • @hallowedbeeddie this relax's me more than any beatles song, overrated imo

  • We fell in stride together and our thoughts melted into conversation. The water glistened silver and gold mixed in with the deep cobalt blue, the sun shimmered around us like a perfect blanket, and the combined effects seemed to create an atmosphere that triggered at that moment a physical response that matched the dreamy-calliope mental sensations I inevitably felt listening to “Feel Flows”. We were in sync; of all the gin joints in all the places in the world, we walked into each other’s.

  • it sounds a bit like heroes and villains

  • @Chacha5678 No.....it doesn't.

  • Unfolding enveloping missiles of soul of soul Recall senses sadly Mirage like soft blue like lanterns below To light the way gladly Whether whistling heaven’s clouds disappear Where the wind withers memory Whether whiteness whisks soft shadows away Feel flows Feel goes

One of the best Beach Boys songs ever! They were ahead of their times when it came to recording technology

  • @leoandjurge Oh come on now I was joking. Like I really judge people like that.

  • Love this and it always reminds me of my fave movie, Almost Famous

  • I agree with David Marks' recent assertion: the Wilson boys were all musical geniuses.

  • reading your notes brought tears to my eyes hope the rest of your life is filled with joy may god bless thank you for serving our country

  • One of the most beautiful songs ever! Carl Wilson had such a wonderful voice!

  • @leoandjurge

Thank you for your time of service. We know it was a sacrifice for you and your family, so we are hoping that you are able to spend plenty of time with them now. Even thou nothing makes up for the time of seperation, and the missing of the children growing up, there is just today, adn the future.

  • @leoandjurge Thank you for your service my friend.

  • @leoandjurge God bless you! i loved this song already but now it will also make me think of you and your wife! i just know she's so happy to have you home safe and sound.

  • Its my first time hearing this song Its wonderful by far one of my favorite ones now I love the darkness to it.

  • The great Carl Wilson a very underrated musician....RIP

  • their last good album in my opinion. from then on after this their sound changed with the trend and even if they had been successful in those trends i still wouldnt have liked them because those trends fucking sucked. they were only good from pet sounds to surfs up with the psychadelic/concept sound it fit them the best and was the easiest to expand lyrically and musically. the surf shit is fucking gay as is everything else.

  • this song is seriously MAGICAL, giving me chills and everything!!

  • Unique gentle vocal and musical arrangements. Charles Lloyd's flute adds a nice lighter-than-air-feeling of bliss, and the words not only work as song lyrics, but as stand-alone poetry. When I saw Almost Famous in 2000 and this song came on, bouncing around the movie theater it felt perfect somehow, reminding me of when I was 12 or 13 and was still full of wonderment.

  • GENIUS.

  • Went backstage in 1972 and got to hang with Carl and the boys. It was during the release of Surf's Up. Only 500 people showed up due to a marketing screw up. It was a great night. He said that they wrote Feel Flows on Mescaline if I recall. Saw Brian about two months ago at a Deli where he eats everyday. He's definitely planet surfing. Stunningly brilliant somewhere in there

  • I first heard this song in 1972, sitting in the Miramar theater during the screening of the recently released "Five Summer Stories", watching Rory Russell get spit out of the Pipe. As the moog came in at about 3:03 of the song, he was cutting back toward the tube he had just exited. My God, I actually remember that. Been surfing since I was 8 - don't think I'll ever stop.

  • I read where the main melody of Werewolves in London and its rhythm were stolen from a riff at the end of the Beach Boys' song "Feel Flows", recorded on the studio album Surf's Up seven years earlier in 1971. Werewolves did a little better on the charts, lol!

  • @twinkie57401 Might not have been "stolen" but we will never know for sure. Carl and Warren were friends..................

  • Like so many others, I REALLY love this song. Love the pre echo. And what a tremendous voice. Carl Wilson was truly under-rated! RIP Beach Boy.

  • So different from any other Beach Boy song. Definitely the best!

  • Some of the best comments for a song on youtube, and rightfully so. This song is beautiful. When I first heard it it gave me the tingles all over. it still does every time i hear it. Thats how you know a song is good, you feel it....feel flows....

  • What a stunning production. One can only imagine what it was like in the studio when they cut this song with all the blending of the harmony and synthesisers. The flute rises above the vocals then gives away to another barrage of synthesised music...........Incredible to say the least!

  • Vocal creativity and mysterious lyrics by one of the greatest, if not the greatest band of all time - The Beach Boys!!

  • i Heard This Song on Almost Famous and I Just Had To Find It!

  • Timeless, beautiful music.

  • I could listen to this over and over forever! It's just AWESOME!!!!!!

  • Four phillistines disliked this beautiful song.

  • oh my god is this an amazing song.

  • "Unbending never ending tablets of time....." Genius

  • when you play this song on a highway on a very rainy/foggy night... nothing feels better!

  • I also love the BB song "In my Room" Will forever associate that song with the first time I visited America in 1987. Great times!

  • godspeed leoandjurge

  • I get so sad when I listen to this song. We can change the world, we just choose not to. I am so disappointed in Obama and everyone. Why don't people plant a couple trees, pick up trash off the road, save electricity (or get solar panels), and buy the cars that don't use gas and pollute everything? We could all live happy lives and stuff, especially if we accept Jesus into our lives. We don't need to hate on things and people, we don't need to be unhappy. Please don't even hate on me. Accept God

  • @5uzyD4wg We can change the world, but we need to rid it of religion to change it for the better. (Also, planting trees doesn't do anything, planting seeds does.)

  • @5uzyD4wg Because people are lazy.

  • @5uzyD4wg Religion is the cause of most of the worlds problems. Not hating on you, i'm hating on your naive view on "how to fix the world". You step into Obama's shoes and do a better job. Better yet, get to Obama's position in the first place. Then we will see how many people can "live happy lives and stuff".

  • Carl played the guitar, bass guitar, drums, keyboards, and sang the lead and backing vocals on Feel Flows. Right up there with his solo effort Heaven.

  • Very classy music. Everything that Carl ever touched had a distinct touch of class to it. One of the very best Non-Brian numbers by the band.

  • Absolutely!!!!

  • As I said in a post to Surfs Up, this album was unique because it was encoded with Quadriphonic (4 channel sound). Dynaco made a little box to connect 4 speakers that gave a "more alive" sound. Also Sansui actually made a 4 channel receiver, but 4 channel encoding never really caught on.

Here is a site that listed all known 4 channel (quad) recordings:

    SA-CD.net

  • I remember this song from my childhood . . . I fell in love with it instantly . . . and for many years I had no idea it was the Beach Boys who created this absolute masterpiece! Takes me right back to 1976 (my childhood) . . . beautiful . . .

  • As stated, Jack Rieley wrote the lyrics, Carl did pretty much everything else including production. Jack said the lyrics were about an orgasm (yes, really) except the part about white puff/black puff which is about drugs.

  • @gtr82 Who cares, just comment the song.

  • I just love this and the whole album. There will never be another group like the Beach Boys. They "engulf all the senses"

  • One of the greatest songs ever written.

  • i love you Feel Flows you are one of my favourite songs ever and i'll love you always

  • this song reminds me of my childhood (which i am still in)

  • Once Carl explained how he produced this complex song. It is fascinating. The man was a real talent.

  • i think i just read that james william guercio had a hand in the production of this great song.

  • Happy 420 all :D

  • To my knowledge, the music was created by Carl and the words were penned by an FM disc jockey who felt the Beach Boys were not getting a fair shake. This is a real good song. Only wish they would have kept it up and not fallen on the oldies act. They reclaimed and then walked away from being relevant again.

  • this song reminds me of the sunset and almost famous just simply good times

  • The best song ever to wrap up a movie - Almost Famous

  • @BlazerYO22 that's my ALL TIME favorite movie ever. i can watch it every single day..hah. i do, actually. :D

that's what brought me here, to be honest. that movie changed my life, dude. ♥

  • @BlazerYO22 I totally agree. I'll never forget sitting in the theater after the awesome movie and then this came on in surround sound. I sat there stunned and amazed at the beauty of it all!

  • sykodelic side of the beach boys hardly anyone has ever heard of. pure magic

  • Fabulous!!!!!!!!!!!

  • haunting & beautiful ... excellent use of musical layers. Genius!

  • Been in the military for over 33 years now. Have carried this song on a disc for more years than I can remember, with a picture of my wife, along with a note ... if I am dieing in some far away location, play me the song and hold her pic up so I can see it .....

  • @leoandjurge wow thats deep, and thats how you can tell its a great song when somebody wants to die listening to this.

  • Comment removed

  • @leoandjurge I'm sorry to hear that.

  • @leoandjurge thank you for your service, and for sharing this story. sweet.

  • @ariexmae well arn't you an ignorant cocksucker

  • Carl was so sincere. This is lovely

  • Apart from Kokomo, I think this is the best beach boys song that Brian had nothing to do with.

  • Never realized how pretty this was. The sound quality is superb & very catchy. Many thanks. Is this a remix? It's SO sharp!!

  • JUST MY FAVORITE BEACH BOYS SONG!!!! THERE IS NOTHING QUITE LIKE THAT!! "Feel "flows" PURE GENIUS!!!!!!

  • Fantastic.......Jack Rieley was so under rated in the Beach Boys history......he really did bring them back from the dead

  • Awesome piece of music. Compare it to the new release of Surf's Up. Its missing something. It isn't as heavy as the original release. Love this song. It has so many layers. So happy and creepy at the same time.

  • Sublime.

  • actually this song is about orgasm....straight from the man who wrote the lyrics.. jack reily....the white puff and black puff is about drugs tho...

  • around 2:50 . And I quote :"wow". I concur:)

  • this song is about Carl Wilson's addiction to cocaine.

  • alltime fav

and a little bit better than the "remake" from brian´s smile, which reduced the wall of sound (absolutely necessary for this track).

  • i <3 this song in almost famous :D

    i love the whole movie.

    Cheers :D

  • to be honest a love the lyrics but i fucking hate that instrumental, it goes 4 too long and completely ruins the song. when i listen 2 this i usually just restart it once it gets 2 it

  • My God, still an incredibly beautiful and moving song, even after all these years. First track on the second side of "Surf's Up", if I'm correct.

    Go top this, Britney Spears!

  • Sublime.

  • Hey what are the names of the Beach Boys band people?

  • The original are Al Jardine, Mike Love and Brian, Carl and Dennis Wilson.

  • Thanks:-)

  • Don't forget David Marks :-)

  • This song is the perfect song to listen to when you are baked off your ass in the middle of the desert

  • Do you know from experience?

  • what do you think? ;)

  • lol...

  • I remember the first time I heard this song on my car radio, driving through heavy fog late at night on a rural road outside Santa Cruz, California in 1971. I thought then (and still do) that it was the best Beach Boys song ever, hauntingly beautiful and completely original.

  • I agree!!

  • @rwestlake charles lloyd plays flute on this and sax on one of the live versions of all this is that

  • @rwestlake what a wonderfully powerful memory!

  • Gerry Lopez surfing to this song in 5 Summer Stories....yes.......

  • 5 Sumer Stories...my all time favorite surf movie ever......this song so reminds of that movie...

  • Oh this is so lovely...........Carl and Brian were just so gifted. I have to say that the others were not entirely without talent and they were all very lucky to have each other, I can go to bed now with this lovely song in my mind. Goodnight all

  • This is my all time favorite Beach Boys song, this song is alot different than their early hits but I do admire them for trying something different and do very well at it

  • Is this one of the first uses of preverb on the vox?

This is one of the best Beach Boys tracks. It has a similar feeling to songs by English rocker Bill Nelson.

  • Bottom line: Beach Boys songs about; surfing, the beach, cars, sunshine < love songs

  • If the Beatles would have kept them self to their early 1960 style they would have been forgotten. You have to keep up with time. Wonder what Brian have achieved if he could have developed freely..

  • One of BB's best - and ample proof that there was a LOT more to the band than just Brian x

  • Rip off from Brian Wilson. This is Wilson chords. Brian has been ill for 3 years now. He was very easy push around.

  • Comment removed

  • Pet Sounds realeased 1966. Voted by international music journalists best album ever. Smile made 1966. A better album. Not realeased because Brian was surrounded by idiots going against change of style. Album scrapped because Brians nervous breakdown. Four years later his been ill for 4 years. An easy victim for psyko Mike. Feel flow ia a rip off from Brian Wilson. This is Brian chords.

  • this song fits almost famous perfectly. beautiful song.

  • Comment removed

  • This is Jack Rieley lyrics anyway.

  • one of my favorite tunes....Carl rocks as hard as his big brother Brian in my opinion....

  • I remember hearing this song as a kid . . . This, to me, is proof above all else that the Beach Boys actually touched genius . . . this song is as good as the best of the Beatles . . . I am not a Beach Boys fan . . . but I have to give credit where credit is due . . . this is a perfect song!

  • This is a very perfect song, but I guess you haven't listened to "God Only Knows." which is even more than perfect

  • Yes . . . God Only Knows is another of my favorite Beach Boys songs! Awesome song!! Both of these songs bring tears to my eyes . . . just such incredible music! . . . totally unrelated . . . but look up the song "Jesus is Waiting" by Al Green . . . absolutely perfect!! Look at the live version he did on Soul Train back in the 1970s . . . so powerful!

  • Thanks for the Al Green tip. I'll check it out. Check out the Moody Blues song "December Snow." Awesome song!!!

  • I actually prefer this to 'God Only Knows', which is great - 'Feel Flows', however, is perfection!

  • There were one genius in the Beach Boys. Thats Brian Wilson. The rest were idiots compared. Especially Mike Love. Made Brian scrap album Smile. This was better than Pet Sounds voted best album ever.
