@chrisgimeno If you read the video's description, you will see that this is on;y a video to show that these units work correctly since they were for sale (I sold them about a year ago). I'm showing that all the buttons and sliders work. I still have my Rev 5 MKS-80 and may make a "proper" Supe Jupe video in the future. A "Jupiter Family" (I also have JP-4, 6 & 8) video is on my immediate to do list - so stay tuned (that means subscribe)!
wow, this rev4 sounds very different from my rev5. definitely has the American CEM sound which IMO doesn't sound right coming from a Roland. my rev5 sounds much softer and smoother, more like the other Roland analogs I've owned in the past. there seem to be more differences between the two revs than people realize.
@ABCRE2 Not quite. The MKS-80's sound is closer to the Jupiter 6. I ave all 4 Jupiters (4, 6, 8 & MKS-80) and plan to make a video with all 4 soon. Be sure to subscribe.
@zibbybone Did you ever get around to making that video comparison? I'm sure a lot of people would find it useful. Which one would you say is best? Thanks
@maccagrabme A video of all 4 Jupes? Not yet, that is still on my list of things to do. Not much time being widowed with 2 boys. The JP-6 is my all time favorite poly, mainly becasue I've had it the longest (15+ years) and know it very well. Also, I'm a sucker for multi-mode filters. Stay tuned, more videos coming!
MKS-10 is analog synth module with only piano, ep, clav & harpsicord presets. But it is indeed crap.
MKS-70 is rack version of JX-10 (2x JX-8P's), they're both called "Super JX"
There is also MKS-100 which was basically the rack version of the S-10 sample (uses quick disks instead of more popular 3.5" floppies) and the MKS-900 which is simply a A-110 MIDI thru box with 88 key display that lights when notes are played but also adds some simple MIDI filtering
@Straessers Do you have a Jupiter 8 and can vouch your claim? The Jupiter 8 mostly uses discreet electronics rather than the "Synth-on-a-chip" that the Jupiter 6 & MKS-80 use. The MKS-80 more closely resembles the Jupiter rather than the 8.
@burnsrobe - check Dallas CraigsList, I have it listed there. I have another MKS-80 and plan to make a "real" video in the future, so stay tuned (SUBSCRIBE).
It's a shame that there really is no musical demonstration of sounds here. I understand that the poster is/was trying to sell his synth, and simply trying to demonstrate functionality, but I suppose it's our loss, the viewing audience, that there really isn't much more. It seems like 70-80% of the sounds heard are odd oscillator/filter noise combos, showing little of this synth's modulation potential, which some of us would like to be convinced of before deciding whether or not to pursue one.
When I find the time, I'll make a proper demo of the MKS-80. I also plan to make a "Jupiter family" video since I have all 4: JP-4, 6 & 8 and MKS-80. Be sure to subscribe to my Channel for updates.
One thing is for sure. Roland used very high quality components on both the MPG and the MKS. The sounds are sometimes difficult to coaxe out, but well worth it in the end. THis is a legacy instrument.
'sup Nada? The Supe Jupe is bi-timbral witrh individual outs for upper and lower parts. The stereo effect you're hearing is from patches in Dual mode (indicated with a D on the display, S for Split and W for Whole: one part, all 8 voices), which drops the polyphony down to 4, but sure thickens up the sound. The Super JX (both JX-10 & MKS-70) has DUAL STEREO outs for a quadraphonic effect if one were so inclined.
I'm in Dallas. I need your postal code for shipping quote (message me directly). There's a guy in Chicago that is supposed to be sending me a deposit. If I don't receive it by Friday, I will consider the deal with him null and void.
I see A6's sell on eBay for under $2K all the time. I missed one just the other day for $1650 - with a case! Looks like I've already got a seriously interested party in this combo for $2K. Says they're sending me a deposit to hold it for a week or so until they get the balance together. We'll see.
Maybe things are different in America because here in the UK Andromedas generally sell for about £1000 whereas MKS80s with programmer sell for around £1500.

@chrisgimeno What do you mean?
zibbybone 1 year ago
@zibbybone It seems as if you are going similar things over and over again without an specific sound in mind.
It would be better if you start from a plain sin wave to a nice pad, groovy bass or another rich sound.
Nice synth anyway, take care of it!
