Most of the people at the top levels aren't reaching the ice so the only way is for them to actually throw them ON TOP OF the people at the lower levels. It must be quite an experience getting absolutely pummeled by thousands of bears from that high up. Got to wear a hard hat!

Gotta love this tradition. The Kitchener Rangers started it 17 years ago (OHL) and little by little it spread across the rest of the OHL and most of the WHL. Now even Jr B teams are getting in on the action. (for those that didn't read it below, everyone brings teddy bears to a designated game just prior to Christmas and on that night, when the home team scores their first goal, you throw your teddy bears onto the ice. They are gathered and local charities hand them to needy kids as Xmas gifts)

@xMyTiMe2ShInEx The players help clean up along with an army of volunteers, then they drive truck after truck out onto the ice to pick them up. Takes about 40 minutes.

@xMyTiMe2ShInEx People are actually given plastic bags to put their teddy bears in when they enter the arena. Therefore most of them stay dry. They clean up the bears in a 30 minute span with about 100 volunteers! So it is all positive--funny how people try to find the negatives in a great thing!

@plung3r 10 years ago in Calgary a wild bear attacked a small family's home killing the poor family. The town realized they had to do deal with the bear before it struck again so they worked together, gathered a small hunting group compromised of about 20 men, searched for the bear for 3 weeks, and finally found and killed the bear in its own home. This is how they celebrate the victory of the Calagary bear hunt.
