  • I'm a hardcore Genesis/megadrive collection and this game is in my top ten favorite Genesis games. The whole game is a beautiful work of art with some really awesome creative bosses.

  • I love Danzen Dungeon's music. Also, Hustle Maruyama (Backstage battle theme) is the best of the soundtrack.

  • I love Danzen Dungeon's music.

  • If You Listen Closely You Can Tell That The Dancer Boss Thing's Theme Is Actually A Sega Genesis Version Of "Bad" By Michael Jackson.

    Freaky, Right? o_o

  • Oh i hated the guest area. the puppeteer and his guy (I think you said they were called mario and mento, but not sure) killed me CONSTANTLY. Nice to see they CAN be defeated.

  • Nicely done! You're good!

  • fire carnival has my favourite music from the game, i ripped it off slightly for a riff in my band

  • Yes Madamluna it is more difficult to get the continues in the American version. You have to collect a lot more of the boxes to get one. I'd also like to mention that the track for this keymaster is one of my two favourites in the game. The other one is the during the battle with the nasty gatekeeper or the evil of the two female twins in this version.

  • Best way to beat Clothes Encounter is the War Head. If you're lucky, you can kill the wooden thing in one costume change

  • Looks great, too many good looking VC games for me to decide which ones to get.

  • Um, that sky "thing" at the end said hit me, witch, in this game, means bite me

  • Also, you're not crazy, collecting the continue points (I want to say they call it "Debris" in the US manual), is much tougher, so much so that Sega probably didn't expect you to get many continues (The backstage continue/game over screen doesn't have a 'number of continues left' counter in the US version).

  • The Startlight Storm level has my favorite track in the entire game. Rock-rock on!

  • Let's make this a good one!

  • A biiiiig winner!

  • The american version was actually harder in all aspects. Less 1 UPs, Less Bananas and you need like 3 quarters of the blocks for a continue.

  • Fun fact, the music in Starlight Storm(Clothes Encounters in the western version) is based on a a track from Billy Cobham called Taurian Matador.

  • I loved playing the US version of this, but it was crazy hard in the later levels. 1ups were not common.

  • Backstage Battle is one of the most surreal video game moments ever. And I still think the dialog being cut sucks. Sure, it's nothing too compelling, but it was there, and shouldn't have been cut.

Ah well. This is one of the best worlds in the game, but there's plenty more left!

  • Oooh, hey, are you going to play some other Genesis games later?

  • 1:23 - Ah, the famous arm-and-claw machine. I miss you old buddy.

  • Oh man, I am like your biggest fan. How's life been since 1994?

  • You mean the past 15 years of my head stuck on top of King Dark Demon's tower in hopes of Treasure making a Dynamite Headdy sequel? Just fine.

  • If it helps, I'm really pulling for that sequel. Maybe if we all buy DH on Virtual Console we'll get one, like with Sin and Punishment :|

  • It is funny, because I bought DH on the VC thanks to you playing through it, and yea, the continues do seem more difficult to get.

  • Seventh Point: 0:11, Killed Bino's head. Off to a great start!

Eighth Point: 2:26, Killing the fat-headed cat.

Ninth Point: 5:42, Killing the Puppet Master first.

That traveling backstage fight is my favorite fight in the entire game. :)

  • I agree, after playing this game world 4 would have to be my favorite. Also i like the music that plays in it, very catchy.

  • Your head 'esplode. hurray for new games i haven't seen before!

  • Ha. Gunstar Heroes and Alien Solder. Seek them out, and be enlightened.

  • So much attention to detail in this game! You also have to remember that if it weren't for piracy and emulation that we wouldn't be able to have the Japanese version in English; go crime!

  • Nice run and thanks for pointing out Bino.

  • I'm going to say it right now - this is one of my favorite action games for the Genesis. However, this may be due to the fact that I played the American version and I had a lot of fun trying to figure out what the heck was going on.

  • Yeah, I was just thinking about that. I think both versions work pretty well, actually; a puppet pantomime is just as charming. But it's just weird having no dialogue for 90% of the game and then little offhand bits in Three Friends and Mystery Spot.

  • I absolutely adore the bit where Maruyama rips through the backdrop with the claw and pulls you into the backstage.

His speeches are just priceless, too, I can't believe they would cut them out in the American version! Dynamite Maruyama, yay.

  • On the other hand, I prefer his general look in the foreign versions. He looks too...too happy. In the foreign versions he actually looks malicious.

  • I think in the Japanese versions he looks more airheaded than anything else. He clearly isn't very bright, as we'll see later on.

  • I like how the little feather or whatever it is turns into a question mark when you get grabbed.

  • This game has really good music.
