Putting the old video data into a high capacity medium wouldn't do anything. It seems silly to put old films onto blu-Ray too. A bit like a poor quality needle on vinyl and using great speakers. Instead, It probably also uses signal conditioning to predict the missing information. A bit like having a dot-to-dot drawing, then adding twice as many dots.
Why would it seem silly to put old films on blu-ray? Old films look great on blu-ray. They are perfect for the format and they benefit from it. Are you aware that film has a higher resolution than blu-ray? Putting older films on blu-ray will only make them better because the movies can be presented like you've never seen them before. Check out movies like Casablanca and 2001: Space Odyssey on blu-ray and you'll see the difference.
@ooOmegaSupremeoo Those films have been remastered. In the end, Its not the same film in one sense. Film is higher than digital because its an analogue format. But the quality will still look the same. We have a DVD player that upconverts and I can't see any benefit for old, untreated movies. Its like recording from a low res format and adding it to a high res format...theres no audible difference. If you think theres an improvement, it probably psychological.
PS3 is a great upconverter. But, the guy in video said that this dvd player will upscale dvds even without HDMI. That is total crap. To upscale dvds you need a HDMI port to connected from the player/PS3 to the TV.
So if you're interested in getting a dvd player with HDMI port then buy a PS3. Plus you can watch Blu-Rays and play PS3 games. So worth it.
it would be better if you had a comparison between standard definition and then puting it in the upcovert, cuz im looking to see if its worth it, and with nothing to compare it to this vid is worthless
is this a blu ray also ?
