Cant agree with Schafe 98's assessment of RE. Met him once and praised him for making my year on an earlier show that I had been to about 9 years earlier. He genuinely seemed embarassed but very very grateful for the compliment.
You really can't say who is better. They both have their own style. Richard plays sex on the the sax, if you know what I mean. I like them both but Richard has a unique sound.
OMG, Richard is MASTER at what he does. I LOVE his style, his flavor. I have yet to see him live, but given the opportunity I will be sure to be in the front row or close to it. Can't get enough of Richard. Picking up his latest CD tomorrow.
Loved all 2:56 minutes of this. Thanx so much for posting this video. WONDERFUL!!
Richard is indeed one the best SmoothJazz Saxofonist. I went to see him, Rick Braun and Oleta Adams a couple of years ago. Boy, what an outstanding live act it was! Everything was there: Power, Sensuality, Melody, Improvisation... The packed hall went wild and satisfied. Absolutely unforgetable!
I've seen Richard twice and sat right in front of him to where he blew that sax right in my face practically while I took pictures. He's a monster on the sax with unlimited power! Go see him. You WON'T be disappointed. Just listen to the crowd.
To agree with the person who posted this, I 'met' him and got a cd signed in Clearwater, FL in 2006 and he was very sincere, and cared to sign cds. I don't remember him playing like this that night though :(
this is what you call romancing the sax...I am trying hard not to get turned on...L.

That's a bad mammuh-jammuh!!! If this doesn't make you want to pick up a tenor sax and start whaling on that bad boy, I don't know what will!
1:50 to 2:05 is where he kicks it like Bruce Lee and then again at 2:19 through the end! Sweet!

No, he plays on what' s called a Lawton. You can find vintage versions to read about at Saxquest or PM Woodwind.
