I loved that logo and tune too! I really miss YTV Rocks and Laurie Hibbard! She was really beautiful especially when I first saw her in 1988 and I loved her beautiful cowboy boots she always wore on the show. I also liked Elizabeth Becker on YTV Rocks as well. I was 16 in 1988 when YTV first came on the air. I was into Debbie Gibson at the time.
Watching this reminds me of the first day YTV came on the air on September 1, 1988. I was 14 at the time and didn't know what to expect from it. I saw a lot of nice retro shows on YTV back then and it was fun. Here's to the olden days of YTV!!!
I remember when I was 14 in 1988 and YTV came on the air. This logo was probably the best of all the YTV logos that I have seen. Everytime I play this, I feel like I can relive my teen years and I keep thinking something is going to come on right after it. One of the biggest shows I used to watch on YTV was You Can't Do that on TV, which, upon watching the first episode, made me an instant fan overnight. As a teenager, though, I felt kind of old for it, but I watched it, nonetheless.
This reminds me of days gone by, coming home from college and unwinding by watching "Rec Room" with Janice! and STEEEEEVE!. Now, Janice (Mackey-Frayer), rather than putting on humorous skits, wears a flak vest and reports on Middle East mayhem for CTV. Sigh...how we have aged...
anyone have any of those little YTV shorts they used to play between shows? I have been searching for years for the one where they follow the kid who enters the "talent show" and does a little comedy routine and wins . . .
i remember this!!!... too bad i stopped watch ytv 3 years ago...due to da fact that The Hit List from Tardan Dan, to Ashna, Exan, & Leslie (those 3 gurls r hottt & sexay!!) the last... Danelle McGimpse and some dude named Rob but i can't remember his last name... since YTV decided to discontine their coolest hit chart serie, I've turned to Thai TV channels and now sometimes Family (formerly Family Channel canada). Thanx 4 da post of this awesome intro that was initiated back in '88. :)
ME! I've had it with their commercials, putting in stuff to screw viewers up like that one commercial for Crunch located in a movie theater showing stuff with shows being on it.
But then Ajay comes along and blocks the entire screen with his tall stature right when the announcer says "And now, some brand-new material we'll never show again" which obviously, they have! That's some old bullsh*t!
"The Youth Channel?" Boy that takes me back but I'm not finding that's true anymore. Now you'd be lucky if you can find anything on YTV that's at least half-decent.
I hate the current status of YTV today. It's mostly all garbage. Nothing of any signifigance on except for Friday nights, and Saturday afternoons, and Sunday afternoons too if you're lucky.
Hey! I remember this when I was a kid I left canada 15 years ago and I remenber this clearly, I was looking for this for some time, great find! (BTW I was also in winnipeg)
23 years ago today (september 1st), this station first aired, and this exact symbol first appeared on my television.

I miss Gord The PJ Man, aka Gordon Michael Woolvet, who was YTV's first PJ. Now he's an actor portraying Sheamus on Andromeda with Kevin Sorbo.

Actually, Canada has had MTV from 2001-2005 and 2006-present.
MuchMusic was the Canadian equivalent of MTV from 1984-2001.

YTV is hard enough to handle without obnoxious people like Ajay.
Does anyone else feel the urge to give Ajay their foot up his wazoo?
CelesteK 4 years ago 2
YTV was great in its day, doesn't seem they're as innovative and a bit on the formulaic side. Oh well, can't forget the great memories.

Actually, i think YTV has more in common with Cartoon Network, even though they do air a lot of Nickelodeon shows.

YTV is gonna get worse as soon as May 4th slides around. That's when they change the afternoon schedule again.
