@skitzo429 - agreed. But give her a break, she's Latvian fergawdsake. How many singers have a good accent speaking or singing in another language? Can you name any? OK, Bryn Terfel's german is excellent and most singers manage decent Italian (they kinda have to). But you take my point. Actually Elina's French isn't bad, it's just that she sounds a little heavy so to speak - but her diction is first class.
@billybloggins thats what i meant, its more of a vocal issue i think than anything else, Callas sounded awful is french roles for the same reason. Netrebkos french however, is just plain bad
@billybloggins -- One must agree about La Netrebko. I love her clean, strong and rich voice, but not being the brightest or most intellectual of singers, bless her, nor indeed noted for her insight into the characters she performs (with the exception of flirty and over-the-top Violetta in La Traviata, with which parallels are only too obvious), her grasp languages other than her native Russian is, shall we say, modest at best. One really wouldn't expect anything else. But, her acting ain't bad.
Tout à fait d'accord ! C'est peut-être de l'opérette mais ce n'est pas pour autant de la variété, jusqu'à preuve du contraire ça reste du chant lyrique.
I'm not particularly fond of her french

If the Greek gods had existed, they would be envious to see so many graces together in one person: beauty, youth, intelligence, voice and talent.

En effet ça reste du classique et j'ajoute que ma remarque ne se veut surtout pas élitiste !

How old is La Garanca on this photo? Like sixteen?

Excellent singing, but rather dull interpretation. No French esprit, and I don't like the generic sound of the orchestra.

Cette chanson est venue d'une Opérette d'Offenbach appelé La Grande Duchesse de Gerósltein.
