ok first off, these sounds are ok but they still sound very bland, plus, if you need a home theater set that costs a ton of money to hjear it like that its not worth it, forza 4 sounds awesome coming out of my tv, this doesnt, and plus on the f430 compare you were shifting at way too high rpm, the real life was much lower in rpm.
I don't get it. In my opinion, the sound except for 1 or 2 cars is far, far away from the original.
"you need a system with base" ? I do, and all the scenes of the original cars sound great. And then comes the gamesound. No trumpets, no grumble and far too smooth. How can anyone not hear the enormous difference between the sounds of the real cars, and the ones in the game !? I only wonder why in about 15 years, grafics got this realistic, and enginesounds didn't get better at all.

I'm also aware that this game has hundreds of cars, and that I'm asking for alot when I say that, but it would be nice.
@ERRORcode901 Duhh it actually does make the cars in real life sound somewhat similar. Like V8 and 4 cylinder engine have nothing to do with each other, right? When you fit a racing exhaust on them, they both get a similar sound update, and therefore they now sound similar in one part. And actually, there is no more exhaust parts that would give you differing sounds. Of course in real life, the products don't go with names like ''sports exhaust'', but still, the changes would be just minor.

To the ppl that argument about the soundsystem: if you can't buy an HD tv, and you're playing it on a 20 year old tv, are you gonna tell that the game isn't even in HD and the graffics suck?
If you do get the time, kindly make a similar video for 2012. Last year around December I believe the latest patch tinkered with the sound of the cars. Some people say it sounds much better.

I dunno a lot of ferraris but in gt5 cars many cars sound like they are outfitted with turbo kits even if you don't buy the kit itself while in this video I noticed that you don't hear air blowing in real ferraris probably cus the sound is dimmed by exhaust, maybe on the outside of the car : /
sorry but the sound of a car is really important in a racing game..Forza understood it. All the cars in GT5 as soon as you tune them, sound like vaccum cleaner..NEVER heard of a ZR1 with over 700hp with a vaccum sound. Yes, STOCK premium cars sound a BIT like real cars, but there are only 200. All forza's car sound like real ones. I used to be a fan of Gt but damn, forza is way better...open your eyes
@jiffiz If sound is the thing for you... lol. Sounds are about 1% on a sim, like GT5. If you try to concentrate to the race, you dont even notice the fucking sound. And also, nobody ever loved Gran Turismo series for sound, you know?
i posted a comment about how physics is more important than sound on a gt5 vs forza lamborghini gallardo sound comparison and i keep getting reply's from people saying sound is a must for driving sims, and in the latest reply i got, a forza fan told me that "Gt5 is for shit-for-brains retards like you" and he also said "Go eat dick".
LOL I went to the Dynamic Range Setting for sound, and it specifically states that those who use living room limit the engine sound, road noise, and other sound effects XD. So PD did state this just people weren't paying attention.

To listen real car sound, you need 2.1, 5.1, or 7.1 surround to make perfect sound in GT5. I did turn off speaker in my hd tv due to you complain to us. I am hard of hearing can listen to any type of sound based from object or other if I saw it.

Gran Turismo 5 was a giant slap in the face to me. I waited all this time and just got it 2 days ago. I don't care how good their premium cars look, I'd rather go with Forza 4. At least all their cars are uniform in their presentation and aren't ripped straight from a previous library of cars. And the sound, that's bullshit too. I bought their game, I should get great sound like i did on Forza from what my tv alone provides.

im a huge fan of both forza and gt, and i gotta say, gt has really really bad detail and car sound for what it couldve been, forza is as close as it gets to a sim when it comes to console racers. polyphony couldve done a lot better on that game, but they did do a pretty good job, forzas just better

@carfanboy69 I don't want fight either. But GT5 and FM4 are the best looking racing games on their consoles. And as I said, Tunr 10 hires other companies to do their work, thats why they get so much done. And also GT5 is much better with steering wheel, Forza 4 is better with controller. And also GT5 has got real tyre data, they just don't market it like Turn 10.
I have to agree that the car sounds are a lot better with a home theater, but those V8's still aren't as deep as the real life cars. I'm not a GT5 fanboy, nor am I a FM4 fanboy. I am a Racing Sim fanboy, so I love both games. Personally, I prefer FM4 car sounds. They sound a lot deeper. Try Forza 4 on a Home Theater and compare it to GT5 on a Home Theater. FM4 wins 99% of the time. But in the end, nothing beats GTR2 with Real Car Sound mods :P
good video, the premuim models are very good, but my favorite car is the sauber mercedes c9, hope they will fix it sometimes love his V8 turbo sound, for now it sounds like a vacuum cleaner..i love GT5 but b-spec is rubbish and the cars u have to buy too

It helps to shed light about the truth, about what people perceive while playing video games, on different equipment and different setups, and then posting their own opinions everywhere. If you don't play the game on a surround sound system, then you honestly can't be taken seriously when commenting about the game's sound being bad. Like the video a lot. It IS the truth. When I play GT5, I always raise the volume as high as I can. It realy makes a big difference. Nice to see that someone puts effort in making such videos.

Another day I saw an onboard F1 video in Spa and I could notice that they have to make the second turn of eau rouge in a middle throttle otherwise it crashes and notice that the same have to be done in the game, is lovable! @mendeal2 i could NOT agree more with you... i think the sounds are pretty good when stock... you can tune the car, race with it and then remove exhaust and have stock sound again so people should not complain... they can not make the sound 100% perfect yet... but for now i enjoy driving, getting money, buying cars so much! LOVE this game... btw they alrdy fixed sounds a lil bit :) u still play this game alot?
@TDUfreak1 i completely agree with you about the sounds. but like always its an opinion. i play both quite alot and found forza having better sound but when it comes to realism / lap times honestly i think still gt5 is better. both great games and both fun games. for fun w/ cars i would prefer forza (sound, cars, graphics) wen it comes to lap times gt5

To be honest, it doesn't matter if you're playing thru the television or a good sound system. The cars in Gran Turismo doesn't sound like.....cars. It's like listening to a mechanical something that goes higher and lower in rpm's.
I own a 5.1 teufel system which cost me about a thousand dollars but gt5 still sounds crap compared to forza. i mean whats the point of this video? if you think about it it is obvious that the cars won't sound totally different just because you have good speakers. on tv speakers they sound like an old vaccuum cleaner and on good speakers they sound like a not as old vaccuum cleaner lol. gt5 ist a good game/sim but you have to admit that the sounds are terrible.
you know, it doesnt matter what sound system you use, a game with a good sound will always sound good on any system. it's just that the sound quality may change to the better on a better system. and gt5 doesn't sound good at all. also, i got a good sound system, not a sony system.

the thing is people compare cars on the game that have a modified exhaust, thats when they sound bad, all of the stock car sounds are close or exactly the same which is what you showed here. nice work.
With the home theater you are using and the fact you are asking us to play this through ours on top it's creating a shitload of additional bass and reverb that is completely unnatural to the game's original sound. You cannot slam other peoples videos just because they captured the sound "as it is", which is how it should be judged.
I honestly find this all a bit desperate. Of course it sounds better through a home theater, not disputing that but all it does it mask the ugly engine sounds :/
@cloudskipa Polyphony tests their games with home theatres because thats what gets the best sound,on the home theatre sound is the games "natural" sound anything other than a home theatre isn't realistic to what the game is capable of, you don't need a home theatre to enjoy the game, normal tvs have surround sound built in,ones that don't still sound very good, @mendeal2 's sounds are "as is" in his video, the sounds in the other one were altered by the tv so that the speakers don't blow out...
So you've taken the most tinny sounding vids on YT (probably captured from a phone) and compared them to GT 5 running through your home theater with sub on max. Congrats. The cars still do not sound alike, at least to my ears LOL

the difference between the 458 italia is that in the video downloaded the 458 has a racing exhaust which changes it's stock noise ;) otherwise nicely done video
i for one am realy disappointed with this game because of the car sounds eg honda civic vtec you dont hear the car hitting the vtec in gt5 and the brutal sound of a de-cat exaust system on a evo... all i hear is an electric car sound on the other hand you could own an xbox and be able to play forza4 were you can actually hear a honda crx hit the vtec. forza is actually a lethal game, too bad its an exclusive :(
I thought GT5 was okay until I saw some videos of Forza4. The cars in GT5 sound fine, but the cars in Forza4 sound like beasts, but perhaps they are over-exaggerated? It's a shame I don't own a 360 so GT5 it is, but I do wonder why Polyphony didn't up their game more. Nice video though, adds some credence to the sounds.

It has the same "problem" of GT5, there are cars that sound fine and there are cars the aren't sound fine, unfortunately....
The problem here is this is a mid engine car. so the engine and engine sounds will be coming from behind the driver so if you dont have a home theater system or have the sound options wrong on the game you wont hear the engine as good as it should be coming loud from the rear channels instead of the front channels.
Yes, you can hear them in real life. But not as ridiculously loud as in the game. I have experienced the sound of a real M5... it just sounds wrong in the game, I'm sorry. Great physics, best simulation. But sounds are crap. SLS AMGs sound is far from it's real one, too.
@storm9311 it's true, gt5 won't sound good on anything. listen to the battlefield games, they have a good sound and also sounds good on any kind of sound system.
Home Theather does make a difference but even so the sounds could be more ferocious, have you listened to forza 4 or NFS shift sounds in a home theather? they sound better than gt5´s

Great comparison, thanks for posting. You can effectively use your surround setup and EQ settings to bring out more of the character of the car you want. With the Corvette example, you can tell the low frequency sounds are being really juiced.
@CHRISGT34 Exhaust sound doesn't matter when you are playing on the cockpit view dumbass. >_< the real car sounds are deep, so you have to use bass wich improves deep sounds a lot! I noticed the same with I got my first headset, which has got bass. The car sounds are a lot better on that.
i have played GT5 nearly every day that ive been able to since its release, and i also check out the update specifics after download, and i NEVER remember seeing ANYTHING about sounds being updated... the quality of the transformer for the amplifier powering the speakers has the greatest impact on sound quality... i can't tell if your bashing GT5 or Pro GT5, but im pretty sure this video is very pro GT5, and i am pro gt5.
you don't understand how audio reproduction works at all do you.
the quality of the power transformer in an audio system is the MOST IMPORTANT PART, you can switch the power transformer for the audio in your TV and get 10x better sound, and hear things that weren't there before. and about the exhaust upgrade, there isn't one. ones a recording with an HD Camera and the audio is being played through a SS while the other recording is directly plugged into a recording device.
You did it right man. Finally some one who demonstrated that with a decent audio system and the right settings you can understand how refined gt is. I use the same settings and it's a joy. Don't forget cars like mazda 787b or ford mark iv wich sound incredible.
I admit gt5 looks better, but forza 4 sounds way better!!

2nd point of view about sound system : Not all gamer able to tells if they
sound system are closest to the re-production (emulation) from the game producer
studio . Because I been working on recording studio . the monitor they using
must sound as good on small speaker and the floor standing one , but for home

I dunno a lot of ferraris but in gt5 cars many cars sound like they are outfitted with turbo kits even if you don't buy the kit itself while in this video I noticed that you don't hear air blowing in real ferraris probably cus the sound is dimmed by exhaust, maybe on the outside of the car : /

sorry but the sound of a car is really important in a racing game..Forza understood it. All the cars in GT5 as soon as you tune them, sound like vaccum cleaner..NEVER heard of a ZR1 with over 700hp with a vaccum sound. Yes, STOCK premium cars sound a BIT like real cars, but there are only 200. All forza's car sound like real ones. I used to be a fan of Gt but damn, forza is way better...open your eyes

LOL I went to the Dynamic Range Setting for sound, and it specifically states that those who use living room limit the engine sound, road noise, and other sound effects XD. So PD did state this just people weren't paying attention.

To listen real car sound, you need 2.1, 5.1, or 7.1 surround to make perfect sound in GT5. I did turn off speaker in my hd tv due to you complain to us. I am hard of hearing can listen to any type of sound based from object or other if I saw it.

Gran Turismo 5 was a giant slap in the face to me. I waited all this time and just got it 2 days ago. I don't care how good their premium cars look, I'd rather go with Forza 4. At least all their cars are uniform in their presentation and aren't ripped straight from a previous library of cars. And the sound, that's bullshit too. I bought their game, I should get great sound like i did on Forza from what my tv alone provides.

im a huge fan of both forza and gt, and i gotta say, gt has really really bad detail and car sound for what it couldve been, forza is as close as it gets to a sim when it comes to console racers. polyphony couldve done a lot better on that game, but they did do a pretty good job, forzas just better

I have to agree that the car sounds are a lot better with a home theater, but those V8's still aren't as deep as the real life cars. I'm not a GT5 fanboy, nor am I a FM4 fanboy. I am a Racing Sim fanboy, so I love both games. Personally, I prefer FM4 car sounds. They sound a lot deeper. Try Forza 4 on a Home Theater and compare it to GT5 on a Home Theater. FM4 wins 99% of the time. But in the end, nothing beats GTR2 with Real Car Sound mods :P

@mendeal2 i could NOT agree more with you... i think the sounds are pretty good when stock... you can tune the car, race with it and then remove exhaust and have stock sound again so people should not complain... they can not make the sound 100% perfect yet... but for now i enjoy driving, getting money, buying cars so much! LOVE this game... btw they alrdy fixed sounds a lil bit :) u still play this game alot?

I own a 5.1 teufel system which cost me about a thousand dollars but gt5 still sounds crap compared to forza. i mean whats the point of this video? if you think about it it is obvious that the cars won't sound totally different just because you have good speakers. on tv speakers they sound like an old vaccuum cleaner and on good speakers they sound like a not as old vaccuum cleaner lol. gt5 ist a good game/sim but you have to admit that the sounds are terrible.

you know, it doesnt matter what sound system you use, a game with a good sound will always sound good on any system. it's just that the sound quality may change to the better on a better system. and gt5 doesn't sound good at all. also, i got a good sound system, not a sony system.

With the home theater you are using and the fact you are asking us to play this through ours on top it's creating a shitload of additional bass and reverb that is completely unnatural to the game's original sound. You cannot slam other peoples videos just because they captured the sound "as it is", which is how it should be judged.
I honestly find this all a bit desperate. Of course it sounds better through a home theater, not disputing that but all it does it mask the ugly engine sounds :/

@cloudskipa Polyphony tests their games with home theatres because thats what gets the best sound,on the home theatre sound is the games "natural" sound anything other than a home theatre isn't realistic to what the game is capable of, you don't need a home theatre to enjoy the game, normal tvs have surround sound built in,ones that don't still sound very good, @mendeal2 's sounds are "as is" in his video, the sounds in the other one were altered by the tv so that the speakers don't blow out...

i for one am realy disappointed with this game because of the car sounds eg honda civic vtec you dont hear the car hitting the vtec in gt5 and the brutal sound of a de-cat exaust system on a evo... all i hear is an electric car sound on the other hand you could own an xbox and be able to play forza4 were you can actually hear a honda crx hit the vtec. forza is actually a lethal game, too bad its an exclusive :(

I thought GT5 was okay until I saw some videos of Forza4. The cars in GT5 sound fine, but the cars in Forza4 sound like beasts, but perhaps they are over-exaggerated? It's a shame I don't own a 360 so GT5 it is, but I do wonder why Polyphony didn't up their game more. Nice video though, adds some credence to the sounds.

The problem here is this is a mid engine car. so the engine and engine sounds will be coming from behind the driver so if you dont have a home theater system or have the sound options wrong on the game you wont hear the engine as good as it should be coming loud from the rear channels instead of the front channels.

Great comparison, thanks for posting. You can effectively use your surround setup and EQ settings to bring out more of the character of the car you want. With the Corvette example, you can tell the low frequency sounds are being really juiced.

i have played GT5 nearly every day that ive been able to since its release, and i also check out the update specifics after download, and i NEVER remember seeing ANYTHING about sounds being updated... the quality of the transformer for the amplifier powering the speakers has the greatest impact on sound quality... i can't tell if your bashing GT5 or Pro GT5, but im pretty sure this video is very pro GT5, and i am pro gt5.

you don't understand how audio reproduction works at all do you.
the quality of the power transformer in an audio system is the MOST IMPORTANT PART, you can switch the power transformer for the audio in your TV and get 10x better sound, and hear things that weren't there before. and about the exhaust upgrade, there isn't one. ones a recording with an HD Camera and the audio is being played through a SS while the other recording is directly plugged into a recording device.

You did it right man. Finally some one who demonstrated that with a decent audio system and the right settings you can understand how refined gt is. I use the same settings and it's a joy. Don't forget cars like mazda 787b or ford mark iv wich sound incredible.
