Yes there is competition within the labour market, but NMW tightens that up drastically, employers used to give young unskilled/newly skilled workers a chance early on because the economic risk was less, now those workers lack that early springboard. You may have lived longer than me but you obviously haven't learnt much in that time!

@willukus We have to agree to disagree then... As a side note I have a fair few years experience working in the employment sector. The main problem was the kids from 2nd and 3rd generation benefit dependant families. They made up the vast majority of the numbers. Their parents had not worked for 20-30 years if ever. They did not want to upskill or do anything. The other kids got work eventually. I am not a big fan of this lot but if they make the long term do some work for their dole, good.
@willukus If as you state you are passionate about History, you should be aware of primary sources. My experience is a primary source. Often worth a lot more than a secondary source. Take it with a pinch of salt and balance it against other evidence but you cannot ignore it. Nor should you dismiss it without looking further into into it.

I'm not sure what your understanding of inflation and deflation is but I can assure you that if MW were abolished then £3.20 an hour would soon be as attractive as NMW is now, and there would be higher rates of employment. Could you please tell me the moral and economic flaws within a voluntary exchange partnership....?

Yes there is competition within the labour market, but NMW tightens that up drastically, employers used to give young unskilled/newly skilled workers a chance early on because the economic risk was less, now those workers lack that early springboard. You may have lived longer than me but you obviously haven't learnt much in that time!

@willukus We have to agree to disagree then... As a side note I have a fair few years experience working in the employment sector. The main problem was the kids from 2nd and 3rd generation benefit dependant families. They made up the vast majority of the numbers. Their parents had not worked for 20-30 years if ever. They did not want to upskill or do anything. The other kids got work eventually. I am not a big fan of this lot but if they make the long term do some work for their dole, good.

What is also true is that the British economy was on decline the moment Labour took power in 1997 thanks to their spending and borrowing in order to feed there expansive welfare system and public sector. Not to mention dishing it out to people who refuse to work, teenage mums and immigrants. Then there's paying for the 5 star hotels that Labour have the cheek to call "Prisons". yes I know there are Asylum seekers, but the international law is that they must seek refuge at the FIRST country they come to. We are an Island. & we wont limit them, we will just make it less easy.

@WASP021 fair play fair play... i agree with you on the prison front. Immigrants only come here because it's so developed though. and not all immigrants refuse to work. they're not dishing out because have you ever seen a teenage mum with a lot of money from the government? they need the money and i know it's bad that they don't work but rather that than them dying huh?

@DisfiguredUnicorn Im not targetting all of the pregnant teens... but many abuse the system. The most common method is saying they are single, then getting a free house plus £162 per week. Then the Boyfriend moves in (who has a job). They must be loving life!! And this ENCOURAGES girls to get pregnant, which obviously massivley increases the number of people doing this, and in turn the money spent on it (which WE pay for). Cameron is gonna stop it, you wait.

As a Black man, I want Harriet to become the new leader of the British. She is desperate to legalise discrimination against white males in the work-place. positive discrimination is ]good thing for redressing the balance in UK. us Blacks should vote for labour, and then eventually the White woman and man will be less powerful economically.
The tory party just got more votes and a higher share of the vote than blair got in 2005 but only because you are scum. my benefits will go.

Or do you just like the sound of your statement cos your left wing heroes keep saying it? Only the Lib Dems would see significant change, and even then theyd still be wayyyy off the Tories AND labour. Dont forget also that Brown flunked an election a year ago when the polls had the Tories on a MUCH larger majority that this year. Face it; Tories = FAIR winners.

@WASP021 I don't mention Labour at all, for all you know arse-piece I could be a lib- dem supporter. What I mean is that the word CONSERVative is the opposite of the word Change. The tories have what they have because of one man; Rupert Murdoch and therefore never really can be "FAIR winners".

@WASP021 hear's an argument for you. Ever thought that Labour CHOSE to lose this election and CHOSE not to construct a government with the smaller parties when they could have. They knew fine and well that whoever is in for the next 5 years will struggle to get in again for a generation ;)
