Pavement was the band that influenced all the other indie bands that came after the nineties. Pavement was one of the most creative, original and brilliant bands that existed. Here is my tribute.
I know that there are plenty of people who would disagree with this assessment, but i think this is the coolest live song in the history of live songs.
gary young was brillinat in the early days but you can clearly see why hehad to go.. slante dis still my fav pave album... everyone should check out the dvd slow century if you already havent..its essential for anyone who is remotely in interested in the pavementi......
hey dude..in a lot of ways they are differnt, because both of them are their own band and original but i've always thought modest mouse have some great elements that pavement had....with the spoken word play on lyrics and guitar riff they are kinda simlar
thanks, i've heard of them somewhere, and so now i'm curios to listening at, but really i was fucking in love with pavement, and still hoping on a reunion
Yeah, a Pavement reunion show would sound exactly like a Jicks show, only with Bob Nastanovich's added vocals. Malkmus was really the only unique musician in the group after Gary Young got kicked out.
Not sure about that as Spiral Stairs would have something to say about that. He is a great musician in his own right and his first Preston School of Industry CD was as good as Malkmus first record. Plus its the two of them together that made Pavement Pavement. Sure Malkmus has a more unique sound but without Spiral he would not be as good!
not to sound pretentious or anything but I actually like stop breathing from CRCR disc 2. just because it was the first pavement song I ever heard and I never realized there was the other version. this video is incredible though.
To me, also, this is THE Pavement jam. So sloppy, so good. There was a period in my life when I listened to this song every damn morning. Good times.... This performance is good, but the audio is lackluster - but fun all the same.
Ok, I wanna drop the bomb: the best song from Crooked Rain is Hands off the bayou! So intense and depressed, Stephen at his best! But you won't find it on the tube...cheers!
for some sacrilegious reason, I don't think this performance is that great, just not doing it for me...that being said, I think this is the quintessential Pavement song. It contains all of the right ingredients for a good Pavement song: The discordant arpeggios during the verses, the quirky lyrics, the catchy melody line, the gloriously sloppy jam at the end...ahhh Pavement.

The Jicks are just as good. Hell they go an awesome sound. I don't know why everyone's so concerned about them reuniting.
SM said himself that he doubts if they will anyway.

Gary might have been "unique" but he wasn't a very solid drummer and his antics were a constant annoyance to the band.
