That's what I thought too. Great playing, but it sounds like it was pulled directly from Tony. I can't knock the guy, as he is obviously very talented. I guess I just like to hear some variation.
I should note that he'll still blow me out of the water, so no disrespect meant to Allen. That said, one of the reasons I really like players like David Grier and Allen Shadd and Jack Lawrence (and others like them) is their unique and sometimes unpredictable ways of approaching flatpicked solos.
ummmm, yes, I have heard of Tony and Bryan, and Andy, and all the rest of those big badass boys!! Ummm, why else would I be watching a hardcore bluegrass video?
Yes, I agree Allen is such a humble guy, thats whats best about meeting really talented people they are usually very down to earth. Allen you are flppin awesome buddy, Ill catch you on Ebay, you should have some autographed guitar straps and other interesting items up for auctioning!!!
Allen, you rock! You sat beside me at Bluegrass First Class and never said anything about how monsterous you are. How dare you? Just joking, keep it up sounds great. Oh yeah, Andy why don't you ask Ricky to just stand up there and sing and let you play mandolin. Great pickin' guys!
Ricky is better than Andy at the Mandolin? Ricky is a legend but he is NOT better than Andy. Andy can do things on the mando that Ricky could never dream to do. I think you are the first person I have ever heard say that. By the way there is a reason that they get Andy to do the mandolin breaks on fast songs when they are recording.
Ricky is not better than Andy at the Mando. Yes Ricky is a legend but but not because he is a great mandolin player. Don't get me wrong I know he is good you are the first person I have ever heard say he is better than Andy. You do know that they use Andy to play the mandolin on fast songs when they are recording. Andy is a much cleaner mando picker and can do things on the mando that Ricky cannot do.
I agree, Andy is better. Ricky is good but he is legend but that is because he got big in bluegrass when he was young playing with bands like The New South, Boone Creek, and The Stanley Brothers. He left bluegrass to make money in country music and then came back again to bluegrass again and brought a huge following of country fans with him.
Hot diggity damn, whos that badass guitar player? And why isnt he pickin with a top knotch bluegrass band? I'm tired of fake players who arent original, we need some more of these guys who play balls to the wall hardcore bluegrass, HOT DAMN I'm excited!!
Man, you are still a hot picker, Allen! :) Great to hear from you again. Smokin'!

@SantaCruzOM - Yes - chip off his Dad and Tony, he's still young and you see the direct influence(s)... just sit back and watch home grow.
