getting the same resalts out of a 350 and a 305 is like me saying i get the same resalts out of my 355 than a 400 sb i 've read some of the stuff oh here please don't try to blow smoke up our asses ok their total different inside ok not to put anyone down yes they will run good with putting performance parts on .
Years ago I had an '83 g20 conversion van w/h.o. 305 & crane 260 cam that I swapped for a targetmaster 350. What a disappointment. Cant explain why either. That 305 would've ran circles around that 350....to add insult the gas mileage turned to shit. 6-7mpg less! The torque difference was unoticeable. Nothing wrong with a warmed over '05 for a street car, In fact its a very smart choice considering price of gas.
@The91489 no they cant, they are pretty much the same motor with a little different displacement. Really, all you are getting with a mini 350, I like them and if your racing in a class with displacement rules (our stock cars here only allowed ford 302's and chev 305's in some cases) then they are great but they are no more reliable then a 350 and mod for mod are at a disadvantage due to their displacement
@Leafsrule016 no they dont really have any big disadvantages like ive stated ive seen 305's get bigger numbers than 350's with the exact same builds and parts and yes ive had many an i mean many 350's give out on me due to prolong higher rpms in racing a 305 has never once gave out in my 23 years of racing them in MY opinion the 305 is a better all around more reliable engine that i have seen get way bigger dyno numbers than a 350 period
@The91489 please elaborate on HOW a smaller but basically identical everywhere else motor can pull out better numbers with the same mods because mathmatically and logically speaking, it doesnt make sense. 305's are tough motors, I'll give them that but so is a 350.. wanna know why? Because they are basically the same thing.
@Leafsrule016 what i was trying to say is this...if you built a 350 to 600 hp then build a 305 to 600 hp the 305 build would be cheaper and more relaible period! ive seen and owned so many 350's that were professionally built that after 1 race they were toast thats not so with the 305 i have and its been built for over 5 years an is still pulling dyno numbers in at 500+ hp an i race it almost every weekend
@The91489 yeah, im a chev guy but to be totally honest I've had nothing but luck with any fords I had. I have a blown 5.0 stang right now but that was more my own stupidity then anything, a few of my buddies have 350's and swear they are better but they sure cant take abuse like a ford
thank you for not pimping it up and putting hydraulics on it with chrome rims, i fuckin hate that its a muscle car for christ's sake anyways nice burnout it will definately smoke the camoro z28 1995-1999
Nice burnout there... and i agree with the other guy about peeps underestimating the 305.. I have an 87 SS also but it is completely all stock and trust me it will fire up the posi rear also.. nice looking car ya have there.. Keep the Monte Carlo SS's alive forever... Thunbs up my man!!! also check out my video of a donut i did playing around one day.. gonna do a straight line burnout soon

The little engine that could ha ha I'm keeping my 305 as well I got a base Monte with the SS L-69 in it from an 86 its got alot of torque for a little engine, planning on a big block but thats way far in the future so I'm building the 305 til then. Nice Monte all together man keep the hot rod black its bad ass.
love the monte carlo glad u stuck with the 305, i have a monte as well with built 305 its bored to a 315sbc, .525 solid cam, ported heads, torker2 intake and the list goes on and on good luck with the 305 there good motors in the right hands
Awsome Monte Carlo, i've noticed a lot of people tend to under-estimate the potential of the 305, okay they suck out of the factory, but put just a few hundred dollars in it and you're getting a very reliable engine with sweet power and amazing mileage for the output
I've got a 91' RS Camaro with the 305, planning to build the engine, replace the exhaust for H or X pipe (i hate y-pipe), also gotta throw in a 12 bolt rear and swap the auto for a T5 or T56

why would anyone do up a 305 .. its okay to have one already in it but just get a 350 fuck, there the same but bigger...
Leafsrule016 4 months ago
@Leafsrule016 with just a few cheap mods 305's can produce more power an torque than a 350 and can be more reliable
