I am still thinking about your version of this song, and about the difference between:

a)playing at a specific tempo or speed, in order to create the desired emotional effect with the song;

and b) playing in a specific emotional state, and then guiding the tempo of the song, so that it resonates with the feeling inside, and works to build that feeling stronger.

Maybe see "Livingston Taylor 2007 Clinic" here on you tube. At about 5:20 he says, "So I can play... and watch the notes land."

I love your voice; this song is really difficult to sing, but you cross in and out of the difficult sections so beautifully.

Everyone wants you to sing this song slower. Maybe so; maybe not. But it's not really about a specific metronome setting.

Rather than trying for a specific tempo, just relax and feel the song. You have so much talent. You are so gifted. Trust yourself; take your time, and just let the feeling of the song take over.
