Well, a year since the last post ay? Well here is a lad with Irish roots who STILL likes the Dubliners. I grew up listening to this stuff on vinyl. Love it!
Hallo, I'm looking for the name of a singer who sung The Holy Ground on the film about John F. Kennedy coming to Ireland in 1963. He was a fine singer with fair hair and a broad smile. The film broadcast on RTÉ in the early 1990's.
@dayo1075 Aye dayo, you must be right because you've done so much more than him music wise. McGowan took traditional irish songs and presented them to a whole new audience in the 80's - and influenced a pile of bands in the process. He wrote one of the finest Christmas songs of our time as well as plenty of other Irish influenced recordings. Erse comments like yours unfortunately proliferate this site.
If you listen to the LP, CD by the Clancy Brothers and Tommy Makem called "The Boys Won`t Leave the Girls Alone" I think you will find that the song above was taken from it. The singer I believe is Tommy Maken.
@wabblum99 Did you sneak in my house and steal it? I will admit my vinyl is currently stored as I'm moving in a couple months. But if you stole that one album I'm surprised none of my other valuables were touched. I guess you knew what you wanted and nicked it. You could have just bought your own copy on Ebay, that's where I got mine. Near mint +. Good stuff.
This is Luke Kelly and Ronnie Drew singing.Even if it is found one of the Clancy Brothers LP:s it's still the boys of the Dubliners singing (and who but L.K. would play like that on the 5-string banjo among these folks?).
@inisk this is from the album "The Dubliners with Luke Kelly" & the vocals are unmistakably Luke & Ronnie! the Clancy's may have done a version of this but it's clearly the Dubliners
@inisk How could you say that? If you dont know enough about either the Clancys or the Dubliners to know that this is the dubliners what business do you have commenting?
@inisk Very odd thing to say in all fairness. What do you base that on?? I was simply saying that its odd for someone who clearly doesnt know what theyre talking about to correct the person who posted the video. I know Luke and Ronnies voices so well. Itd be like if I went up to you and told you your name was Peter. And then insisted when you told me it wasnt.
a great song for the crew bar

This is the melody of Drunken Lullabies, by Flogging Molly.

reminds me of my mum and dad so much and when I used to live with them.... Every second song in my house was a Dubliners song...
I was force fed this music and although I hated it at the time I have grown to love it more than any other,

Classic Dubliners. Luke and Ronnie sharing vocals, doesn't get much better.

anyone reckon that Shane MacGowan had a bit of the melody in mind when he wrote 'London, you're a lady'?
Leftygit 1 year ago 2
@Leftygit i heard it was based on an O'Carolan melody, they could both be based on the same tune
