just want to say, great work in the video, super creative. I am new to graphic design and i dont know much about it, but i am creative and love doing that kind of stuff. did you take many art classes in highschool?
And my high school had a pretty small art department so I didn't take a lot of classes. All the computer software I taught myself until I got to college.
I'm a freshman in highschool and i need to figure out what i'm going to do after highschool, I'm always drawing in my notebooks and doodling random things, do you think graphic design is the uh, career for me? if so, do you think i should hit an art school after highschool or where should that all drop, thanks Josh!
honestly your work shows more promise than a lot of the people who got into the competitive graphic design program here at UNT. this is from '06 and i'm curious... did you ever end up going to school?
Thanks man, and yeah, I'm enrolled at the school I talked about in the video, i'll have my bachelors degree soon after I turn 21. It's going very well!
Awesome illustrations dude. And for the douchebags harassing you about them and saying it's not graphic design, I just have a question. Why am I taking illustration classes as part of my graphic design degree at The Art Institute of Pittsburgh? This kid has some great drawing skills that are really going to help him be successful in this field. So, lay off him and try building him up.
Great work dude. Work hard and don't listen to douchebags. Also look up the 10,000 hour rule.
Not really, graphic design is a style of art, and it happens to be done mostly digitally, but he is lacking typography. But his illustrations do have the design style, solid shapes/colors, composition, etc etc
Just because the illustrations have composition, colour and shape etc, it doesn't mean it is design. Illustration covers all of the visual elements too.
No offence to the lad but thats not design. I suggest reading the 'Design Basics' series. It covers grid structure, typography, image, layout etc. They are really good to give you an idea of whats to come.
Nice shit man, if ur good at illustrator college will be heaven for you, companies will love you, and well youll have the easiest time making your own reference images. As a graphic designer though its necessary to know 3D art as well, so id suggest getting your hands on 3DS Max or Maya and play around with it doing tutorials and such
I really love all your work in this video, your amazing, especially for someone who isn't even in college yet(not that age really matters, but u know what i mean).
Im still in highschool aswell, and im aspiring to be an illustrator, graphic designer and web designer, but at the moment i don't have much time to concentrate on learning new skills and stuff like that :(
What programs do you use to edit and/or create your work?
Hi Josh. Cool video! I do wonder why you'd want to be a graphic designer. You seem to gravitate so much more towards illustration. Why not go for the gusto? Just a thought.
well, at this point i've only really been exposed to illustration - although graphic design is what i do in my freetime and i feel i'm best at. i don't plan on tossing out illustration though, of course!
i disagree. in college i can learn alot of new techniques, establish valuable business connections, and learn the in's-and-outs of the business. there is a lot to be learned, in my case.
Awesome, I think your style is pretty tight, you take any art classes or are you self-taught?
It's cool that you're going to college, alot of graphic designers make the mistake of skipping that, thinking that either creativity or being able to draw will cut it.
Good luck, I'm an aspiring designer too, but I've got passion for a medical field. We'll see how it works out ^_~
hey i think your work is imense coming from another graphic designer i think your work is shit hot, keep it up dude... although if u wanan see my work i think i have a bit on myspace even though i dont have anything on here. but i would love to see more of ya work cos i think its cool...
Graphic desing is not being good illustrator, A graphic desinger is so much more than that, If you want to be a real GRAPHIC DESIGNER you gotta go to college.
very cool works, I will send any work your way. You should show more of your graphic side. If it is like your art, you will go far.awesome, uechifreak
Great work, you really are talented, althought I must say that what you do is not design, is art. But I´m sure you´ll do great once you study. Great job.
actually i do a lot of design work also, what you see in the video is only a very small part of the work i've done, but you're right, alot of it is illustration.
umm i have a question..when you become a graphic designer do you have a good amount of free time??

For highschool kids that doodle all the time, alot of people will say graphic design is for you. It's a wide career field with lots of oppurtunities.
I'd say get your hands on a few Adobe products, mess around a bit, and see how it feels.
Also, do some research on the graphic design field. There are a lot of different jobs, some may grab your attention.
Good luck!
