  • Holst anybody?

  • Playing this in my high school band now. 4th clarinet baby.

  • Ticheli sure has a tendency to compose some... crazy ass pieces, if you will

  • Shut up seth. tee hee. i am legofsam's brother lol

  • @stone0077 dang 6 hrs lol

  • @MPHConcept this sound NOTHING like slot machine watever . this more sounds like jupiter by holst or sum star wars stuffbut this is an amazing piece

  • Trombone gliss at the end!

  • God damn... easy as hell but too fast...

  • this song was a little confusing to learn at first, but it was well worth it. loved playing it. f-horn pride!!!

  • I would like to publicly apologize for my rude comments earlier, things got out of hand, and I want everyone to know I do still hold a great appreciation and admiration for Frank Ticheli and his music. I'm sorry for any offensive comments I have made to anyone and to Frank Ticheli himself. I still retain many of my opinions but not with the same harshness or vulgarity that others would believe I have towards Ticheli's music upon reading some of my earlier comments.

  • I think that the one by LSU is much better all around. just type in nitro frank ticheli, click on the bright blue one by pa5436 and it will be better.

  • its good but its a little fast and the french horns couldve been better. they shouldve listened to the LSU band play it. overall great performance though

  • I lived my nightmare when I had to play a 30 year old contra bass clarinet for the first time ever, and they chose this song.

  • @tophblue I agree with you, it is impossible to keep compositions from being influenced by something that has already been created, and I have no problem with this. Some people hate John Williams because he steals from other composers, but its rather that he takes something and makes it new again... Although, I regard him and others like Ticheli to be more of a great craftsman than artist... I think we can't help but to always have our work teetering between Craftsmanship & Originality (Art),

  • i am madly in love with Ticheli

  • I love how this sounds, but it's an utter pain to play on tuba XD

  • this song is orgasmic...

  • TROMBONES BABY!!

  • LOVE THIS! tuba part is ehh, but as an ensemble it sounds wonderful!

  • We played thisas our first movement for our marching band show my freshman year! Ah, good times...

  • its just alot of notes that go bye really fast but is so freakin cool!!!! :)

  • @MPH Concept: Fuck you. Ticheli is one of the best contemporary composers.

  • @MPHConcept Show us your compositions. As a student musician representing many other practicing or otherwise well-known musicians, WE are the ones who play your composed music. If we don't see fit, we don't play. Composition, conduction, playwrite, musicianship all in all, is a VERY difficult and very competitive realm. I want to see your composition. Ticheli, like Stravinksy, made a name for himself for his liberating yet controversial pieces. Where is your name?

  • @MPHConcept Yes, I just got out of HS, but that is not relevant, as I am opinion entitled just as you are, just having been surrounded with concert band music, which is what Ticheli is a composer of. I have done research of your works ahead of time, and I stand by my support for this "Cliche, cookie-cutter form" of music. I greatly commend your work as it is innovative, yet all too familiar. While you MAY NOT have sought outside inspiration from different sources... (to be continued)

  • @MPHConcept That doesn't mean some pieces are individualistic as their self-inspired works. Fact is, no matter what you call it, music is meant to be appreciated, no matter what your opinion towards other composers may be. In this case, the appreciation of music is lost because of your scrutiny over "simplicity" and "cliche" music. Whether you feel you are above Ticheli's realm of complexity or not is your opinion, but your love of composition is conflicted by your opinion and criticism. (TBC)

  • @MPHConcept Futhermore, what I meant by "familiar" to other compositions, is there are so many compositions out there (some well-known, and less) that some may sound remotely the same, with other composers shadowed by other greats during the same era. (Sousa to Fulton) I am not saying all music in certain genres is the same, I am saying they are "classified" in genres and inspirations for a reason. I am inspired by Ticheli, but you may call me amateurish because of my opinion. (TBC)

  • @MPHConcept I am sorry for my rant. However, the fact is music shouldn't be used as a tool of criticism for other's works. Music is an art which is meant to be awed, but there will always be many (such as yourself) that don't see or agree with others. I remember listening to one of your compositions, and it remotely reminded me of composer Michael Giacchino (If you don't appreciate him either, I'm sorry). Fact is, you may hear something I don't, but I appreciate it as an aspiring musician.

  • @MPHConcept OMGOSH !!!!! Ticheli is one of the most complex contemporary composer of this time !!!!!!!! just look at one of his score and the chord structures around the band he is a GENIUS! just in this song alone there are soooooo many over lapping triplet runs and they fit together perfectly if played corectly.

  • I'm playing this for band right now, and it's actually kinda fun (:

  • hardest part to this song has to be the clarinet espescially the 1st clarinet part!!!! like if you agree with me!

  • omg we just got this piece for our wind symphony.. I play flute and its not hard, just fast xD

  • I played this two times with two instruments... Very very hard lol, piccolo had a highest note for any intrument in this world, then clarinet wouldnt stop playin! Ahhhh it was fun but hard

  • @MPHConcept Are you kidding me? They're not even close. The only similarity I heard was that they both have a complicated clarinet part. If anything, "Short Ride in a Fast Machine" sounds a bit like "Flight" by Brian Balmages

  • @MPHConcept i wouldnt say that this is total crap, however this version i think just happens to not be the best out there. the french horns are not particularly the best. listen to the LSU version.

  • @MPHConcept I can assure you that my ears are perfectly fine. I think it is all a matter of opinion. Like literature, music can never be interpreted the same, because it is art. Oh wait, I just got out of high school too so never mind, I suck and don't know anything.

  • @MPHConcept actually, Ticheli is a tenured professor at a school that is ACTUALLY one of the best in the country. Part of the reason its one of the best is because the music faculty are very well respected, but the other part is that they don't allow immature, third rate nobodies like you in. Have a great life working at McDonalds because you're terrible. Feel free to lash out at people who are better than you though, if it makes you feel better. Bye.

  • The Articulation is amazing! We played this and this recording sounds odd, b/c we didn't play it that short, but we did play it that fast. We we're all chopped out by this song. I like the horn part at 2:02.

    Suite Francaise?

  • jupiter by holst anyone?

  • Thats my favorite song lol

  • @yodadude88 yes! That's exactly what I was thinking. Maybe his inspiration? Except then it goes more abstract after the initial concept at the very beginning.

  • @yodadude88 certainly has similar elements, but jupiter has a much more prominent melody

  • @yodadude88 AWESOME!!!!!!!

  • @yodadude88 it is kind of like jupiter in the beginning
