Any doccumentation on any band this epic is priceless if anything. Especially about anything on The Police. Where were any of us on Youtube when this interview was on national television? We were not sitting where this guy was that recorded it all. Thanks for this historical clip from Stewart. Copeland.
@MoveOverCasanova Man, give me a break. Tracking does nothing for that. Didn't even budge it. AND I tried on more than one vcr...same results. You think I wanted it to look like that?? Tape is old as shit.
well, I suppose that the only musicians that could be as racist as Wagner are Reggae musicians, so Copeland IS going full circle, huh? Wonderful, wonderful interview though. I'm a big fan.
Good Lord....Copeland brings up some REALLY good points at around 4:50. Truly a gifted man. When I was 4 I imitated his drumming. Now I'm 23 and perform in 2 bands. Thanks for uploading.
Same here. He's the reason I started playing drums and for exploring a wide array of genres.
I really like your playing and greatly appreciate the various styles you incorporate in the song A Spark. I can pick definitely pick up a bit of Stewart's influence in there.
And thanks for listing Travis Barker as an overrated drummer. So true. Now I'll just sit back and wait for all the 12-year old mono-syllabic waste heads to flame me for saying that.
@theburymanor I really appreciate that. I've always admired Copeland's drumming style. But I doubt any 12-year olds will be looking at this video anyway :-/
The Police had a very interesting dynamic when it came to song creation. IIRC Sting did most of the composition, but after he presented it to the group they got together and 'Policified' it so that they each contributed something to the finished product. Very argumentative, very creatively charged, and ultimately what tore them apart, sadly. Regatta de Blanc is the best example of this - it evolved from improvisational stage jams during 'Can't Stand Losing You'.
A few more goodies written with or without Sting, some you might know, others you may not: Murder by Numbers - Sting + Andy On Any Other Day - Stewart Does Everyone Stare - Stewart Shambelle - Andy Rehumanize Yourself - Stewart Flexible Strategies - Andy Someone to Talk To - Andy Deathwish - Andy It's Alright for You - Stewart A Sermon - Stewart All I can recall atm, but there are plenty more. Another of my lesser known fav's is 'Dead End Job' by Sting. Bass line cranks on that, amazing stuff.
Awesome interview by Bob Costas. And is that vinyl in his hand? I miss the 90s.

Just curious. What classic compositions by The Police did Copeland and Summers write Completely-(music & lyrics)?
Elghin18 3 years ago
Copeland wrote "Bombs Away" and "Darkness" (a classic Ghost in the Machine track), Summers wrote "Omega Man" (again GITM)
