The stupid celebrity thing on global warming was at least faithful as a sociopolitical protest song, but it changed things about it and I found that annoying. And the other versions of it (disregarding the Nightwatchman's version) are completely horrible. At least this leaves the melody and lyrics alone.

I personally like this song. It's not "better" than the original - that's like comparing Dragonforce and Beethoven. The cover's pretty much moved the song into a different genre, much more techno than the original. Not everyone will like a more techno version, they don't have to. It's the same words, but a different song, so I'd expect different people to like it, instead of it just being "better" or "worse" .

I respect your taste. But I don't like this kind of "pop". There are good coverversions. A-Ha's "Crying In The Rain" (Everly Brothers). They created something new, they didn't destroy the original. Bananarama's "Venus" (Shocking Blue) has the "original feeling", with 80's elements. A catchy pop tune. UB 40 made a lot of great covers. There are countless examples. So I'm not "snotty".
