"We have a larger mission than necessarily finding a common mind about particular things in the Church." In other words, that train has sailed, those in power are running a corpse-like, albeit super-rich, institution that has been all but gutted of anyone remaining faithful to the most basic tenets of Christianity as it has existed in any historical sense of the word. "Embracing a variety of viewpoints..." Yikes.
The argument was not to do with whether or not non Jews could be part of the church, rather if they needed to observe the statutes & ordinates my ancestors could not even follow!Read the Jerusalem Council(since you do not know Scripture, this can be found in Ac15)!Btw,congregations have left the Episcopal, and the Anglican (here in Canada)church. Why do you think we have the Anglican Use of the Roman Rite, and the ANC,CEC,and so forth.Women like you should not be preaching! You're not a Junia(Rom.16)!
@LawdHelp: Actually, why should those no no longer believe the Christian faith remain with a Christian denomination? Why don't they leave, call themselves 'theists' or something, and create their own Awareness Centers and such? Why do they choose to hang on to the Episcopal faith when they do not believe in any of the pre-2003 Episcopal teachings? Only one reason: a lust for power.
This is sad, Her Excellency is misinforming and misleading the faithful. Congregations have left the Anglican and Episcopalian churches contrary to her claim. Some of these congregations became Roman Catholics.
I for one ( and i know of many) have left the RC Church for the Episcopal. I find rest in what said and done here. A Catholic Church that is truely universal, sensible, and does its job as an welcoming community in the body of Christ. The language of those whose who hate such moderation are truely tiresome and weary . the RC will either take this route or that of extremism (easier i suppose) .
What rhetorical crap. And the idea that SHE is good as minister BECAUSE she is a woman - identity politics. Men suck, women suck - Christ is all. Begin there. And follow the history. She is late-stage, as have been the last several Episcopal AB's, argument as decline. She hasn't the philosophical training to argue a case for anything.
Women in Ministry is Biblical (Junia[s] for example) but if you twist Scripture (Such as the disgusting immoral GLBT issue) than no one (Male or Female) has a right to Preach or be in ministry! The whole concept of Gentiles being members was not the issue, Circumcision was study Scripture (the Jerusalem Council [Acts 15], Romans 2, 3, 4, 1 Corinthians 7, Galatians 2, 5, 6, Philippians 3, Colossians 2, 3, 4). Go back and study Scripture your eminence!
This woman is delusional. You are not past the worst. When you preach apostasy that stands in direct opposition to the authority of scripture, you are on the road ro hell.
Yes... "You Lose". Soon, you will be nothing more than the religion of people who will go to any lengths to justify their sin. I feel sorry for you.
MaryW- Gay people can't get married in the Episcopal church. They can possibly get a "blessing" which is not the same as marriage. Do your homework before you spew your ignorance.
Katharine Jefferts Schori speaks abominations. When the Episcopal Church began ordaining homosexuals and marrying homosexuals, they gave themselves over to Satan without pretense. If you are a christian, flee from this evil organization. You are disgracing Jesus Christ by sanctioning this abomination with your presence.
This is exactly why Pope Benedict XVI is reaching out to Anglicans/Episcopalians. Faithful believers in the Anglican Communion are welcome in the Catholic Church. In fact we need you!
To say that churches and diocese can't leave the Episcopal Church is an illusion. Courts are ruling more and more in favor of the departing churces keeping their property. The Episcopal Church has lost close to half of it's membership over the last twenty years. Regardless of their made up statistics. Just attend an Episcopal Church on any given Sunday and see all the empty pews.
Actually, today's huge sucking sound isn't as bad as it was in 1974 when the first women priests were ordained. People left in droves over that one. Thank God, the people who have left TEC have not left Christ. We're all still part of one larger Body. But now, people who would not have stepped foot into a church before 2003, have accepted Christ and become baptized members of the Church. Isn't that what we're supposed to do? Preach the Gospel to the world and make disciples of all the nations.
I guess she doesn't think that leaving over the "one issue" of not following the scriptures is a big deal. And how gracious of her to want to "bless those who need to follow another journey" by serving them with lawsuits and other threats.
No, they really haven't. Individuals may leave congregations and the denomination, but the diocese as an entity remains intact with the people who remain. That's like saying the Beatles stopped being the Beatles when Pete Best left.
Actually, most of the Dioscese of San Joaquin would disagree with you. The 'rump diocese' of San Joaquin is irrelevant to the people in San Joaquin. No one attends their 'churches'.
@jimdela: No matter how many times you and every other New York headquarters loyalist quote this, it is not true. There is nothing in the Episcopal constitution that says a diocese cannot leave the General Convention, which is why Jefferts-Schori had to create a fake diocese in each case in order to sue the real dioceses so she would not be in violation of the constitution of the General Convention. And no one has left the denomination...they are realigned with other General Conventions.

Perhaps a rereading of scripture is in order.

@MaryWaterton I agree. The Episcopal church is swimming in a sea of apostasy and the people within in must be reached.

She (Katherine Jefferts Schori) preaches some very dangerous heresy. Contrary to Biblical truth.
