This is such an important film and it needs to be seen by more people. I would also recommend highly the movie "The Lost Weekend" from 1945. A simply brilliant and perceptive film about an alcoholic. It's a tragic life threatening illness, and I'm still coming to terms with mine.

@ElectricSexPants They do. I recently relapsed and as I was detoxing, drying out, whatever you want to call it I was given a short course of valium to help me over the hardest part. There's also librium, but I've fortunately never had to go down that path.

theres alot of parents that do that to their daughters, mean rape them, how can a father do that to his daughter...and then have the guts to ever face her or his family, there are parents who do it, over and over, and then act like nothing is going on, and that must make the children insane, questioning if is in their heads or if it really happened, the pedophiles are just living in a phantasy world its just pure evil from any parents to destroy their daughters life

Alcoholics just don't care about self respect, family or responsibilities. They want to escape their demons everyday instead of facing them HEAD ON and resolving those issues. The law doesn't help them either because in order to be checked into rehab they have to consent. Unfortunately, for the rest of us who love them, our lives are pretty much screwed because their unpredictability spills over into our plans and dreams.

makes me sad. i have fallen once again into this cycle. you drink bcuz of the misery you live and once you wake up you start all over the endless cycle thinking you dont have self control. day by day you kill yourself inside and as deeper you go you realize its just not yourself that you have hurt but the close ones to you and its not just the alchol killing you too but that pain inside. and you just hope everyday and ask yourself everyday i will quit today just to start all over

Its so hard to stay dry was dry 6 months relapsed for 5 days stopped again 1 and a half months and here I am again drinking. Hate drink I was yellow like that guy and they didnt tell me how bad it was till later on it could of gone either way for me I couldnt even walk :(

a million times better, its a new life, a second chance. but remember that you still have to deal with the issues that caused you to drink in the first place. not drinking makes this much easier in the long run, get professional help if you think you might need it. Stick with it, it gets much easier

@snowskate ---HI. I was so pissed, I stayed sober for 7 entire months. Then I started dreaming about alcohol. I dreamnt there was a fountain of alcohol flowing in front of me. Also I dreamnt I was sitting at a bar, and bartender had 10 glasses full telling me to drink drink drink. I knew the shit was coming to get to me then. I fell off the wagon and then lost my job cuz I didn't show up, on a binge. Now I can't find a job....

@giaisbomb Hi =) I'm sorry to hear that. You CAN find a job, you just haven't found one yet. Keep trying everyday and I promise it will happen. Forgive yourself and get back on the wagon. I had to fall a few times before I got it right.. I'm sober over 5 years now and it just keeps getting better and better.. try a temp agency and then you will have a good reference for your next job

@snowskate ---Jobs are still very tough to find. I don't know why I continue to love alcohol. I'm sober now but I seem to last only 7 months at that. I got sick of the monontonous boredom of being sober and everything running smoothly. It's as if I truly enjoy falling into a hole and having to dig myself out!

@snowskate I have slipped 3 times in the last 10 yrs last in 06.In 98 I was told I had alcohol hep. and only like half my liver was in good shape,I understand that all but a very small part repaired it'self.on those 3 relapses I lost my front teeth,got my nose disfigured,went to jail everytime and wecked my car.I think whay I finally stopped is it became literally harder to drink than not to.I would spend my 1st hr in the bathroom puking up half of what I drank along with blood.the DTS r WORST
