  • Was this a class project?

  • I kinda agree with the whole "it depends on where in America you are" but it also depends on the person too. I'm from Connecticut, which is close to New York and we get a lot of people from there too. Some are polite and some are rude. When it comes to bumping into people I automatically apologize even if it was the other person (I might do it sarcastic though). And on the elevator I'l always ask what floor you'd go on so I'm being polite, and I have personal space the without awkward reaching

  • The southern part of America is pretty much everything you said in this video xD

  • I don't get this video, sorry but I don't remember Americans being like this O_o

  • i am waiting a video which explains good manners for japanese students in ARGENTINA....

    1) everybody went to a riot ......once in your life at least....it is cultural !! XD

    2) everybody use the word " che " ....also it is cultural !!

  • It really depends where in America you are/what the people you're around are like/what you are like.

One thing you forgot though: In a lot of places, it's common that the person standing next to the floor buttons will ask which one you're going to and press it for you.

  • I'm never tidy... but my mom freaks out if the bathroom is not clean when my grandfather comes over.

  • I was expecting a little more energy and sarcasm...

You should show the american way as "screaming while driving", "buying more food that they can eat", "wasting real useful resources to poor people", etc.

  • I think it depends on where you are in America.

In places like the south, where there are more rural areas, bumping into somebody is usually followed by an apology, otherwise it can get really awkward. There are a lot of places that are continued more "friendly".

But it places like New York City, it's ok. People bump into each other and you don't have to say anything. Same goes with the elevator situation, you don't really have to say anything. New York has a more of a "rude" stigma.

  • i really wish americans here were as nice :(

  • LOL u make us americans look ultra nice haha..first of all...(at least in new york), we don't say anything when we bump into each other. actually its quite surpirsing when someone does say sorry haha. and second, when we go in the elevator, we don;'t talk to random strangers. in fact, we go to the corner that is farthest aay from the other person in the elavator and stand there. in silence. lol and for the door thing its aways good to knock even if the door is open if you dnt know the personwell

  • Where I live we apologize when we bump into each other so I think that part is right. Same goes for the personal questions, bathroom, and cleaning up after yourself. However, the part where you make conversation on an elevator isn't necessarily mandatory. It happens sometimes, but most of the time I don't have people talk to me on an elevator and vise versa.

  • is this American?? Or is this Britain? Americans are not that Tidy/ Social XD

  • Lol, ACTUALLY it hardly goes noticed if you bump into someone. You take your cues off the other person, generally if I notice the person looks back I'll simply turn my head and say "excuse me" in passing. It almost never happens that either party actually stops to apologize, lol. People do not commonly talk on the elevator unless they know each other. The cookie puppet was hilarious. Spot on! Also, the neatness of your room is not as important as common areas. Observe your hosts and follow suit.

  • giggles, this is cute, but in america, thats not how it goes,

  • Americans don't speak to each other on elevators. Unless they know each other, and even then its a bit rare. Also the making your bed part well most people don't care about that.

  • Having lived in America my whole life I know we are not always nice or polite. I bumped into someone in a hall way once, turned to apologize but before I could the girl called me a slut... -.- So...yeah...

It's a good view for American culture in general, but in certain places and with certain people one will find we are quite rude... Hate to say it, but it's true...

  • Ah so staying silent is considered rude in teh usa?

  • lol i always keep my door closed and i never speak to people on elevators. but i'm just weird like that.

lmao!! i love the sock puppet!

  • lmao not all of that is true

  • I like this video. ^^ great job!

  • You're all so cute!

  • Hahahaha 4# it's god's truth, japan you must always be humble while in america people like to know in what you exceeds. Normally when people from america go to japan they are not aware of that thus it can bring some unneasy situations, i've saw it personnaly.

  • they make us americans sound a bit too nice.a

warning for Japanese experience may vary america is very multicultural and this works mostly for general american (basic survival).

experience may vary also depends which state your in.

  • lol Cool. I always keep my door close either way lol

  • Haha, we americans sound so nice. XD

  • GOOD JOB!

  • Thank you girls!! This was excellent!!

  • On most parts they're correct, but for the dor part. Meh. It's still good.

  • I admire the Japanese; my life has been greatly enriched by their manufacturing of many, many wonderful products (and which, more often than not, can be purchased at a very reasonable price).

  • aside from a polite hello or asking the person what floor they are going to i would never talk to people in an elevator i find that kind of weird other then that its good stuff

  • where did you learn all this ??

  • lol proper elevator etiquette to me is to just stand quietly and stare at the numbers so you don't accidentally make eye contact with anyone lol.

  • @sweetpea114 HAHAHA i think that's everyone's etiquette!

  • @sweetpea114 I was thinking the same thing! lol :D

  • hahaha im american born and raised... but i didnt even know about the door thing! lol

  • when I'm standing next to the elevator buttons I ask the person who enters

what floor they are going to and press the button for them

  • yay wii music :D

  • I think Mr. Jones likes Asami and that`s why he keeps giving her cookies.

I don`t blame him though, she`s really pretty.

  • You guys think us Americans are that polite?????? We never talk to other in an elevator. I wish America was this friendly

  • @NKD2508 I agree we americans do not care about being polite like eating all of the food on your plate or bowing.

  • @NKD2508 They're not completely accurate, but their right on some levels. I only talk to someone on the elevator only if I know the person or if they talk to me first, but some people are really outgoing and will talk to a completely random person. This doesn't exist in Japan.

  • haha I didn't get the part about the cookies....

  • the music in the background just completed the video

  • Honestly, the thing I thought was weird about the elevator was that she didn't ask that person to just hit the button she wanted. Does it seem rude to anyone else that she just reached infront of that person to hit the button?

  • LOLOLOL, at the ending song.

    Haha, I ♥ Naruto ^-^

  • I never talk in elevators unless it's with my friends, or because someone talks to me first. awkward.......

  • I know a lot of people who small talk in the elevator. In fact, it's rare when people don't.

  • nice video!

  • ahahaha, girls, i really enjoy this, its very funny also!!!

(i really get to know good manners for brazilian students in japan, hahahah!)

    thanks for the video

  • im american I didn't know we had elevator ettiquette lol.

  • @ShinsengumiGirl Lmaoo I know, right. I'm looking like uhhh...wait so I've been doing it wrong all this time? cause i really dont talk to strangers in the elevator...or friends (acquaintances) for that matter.

  • Not all Americans talk in the Elevator. I kinda shy away from doing so.

  • @sharpshooter335 I was once in an elevator with a bunch of giggling girls from India. And I just started screaming randomly to freak them out. Then I said "That's how we do it in America." I'm Korean.

  • @11BusoRenkin11 *facepalm* I have a friend from Japan who actually thinks that America has things that make it great and she loves both countries. Most Americans want to go to Japan because of their anime... >_>

  • @Shlycer yeah your correct i want also to go japan

  • Mii Channel music = win ^_^

Great video! It seems very helpful :)

  • i like japanese they are cool

  • i like japanese they are cool

  • NIce english. Very accurate. At least from my american perspective.

  • NIce english. Very accurate. At least from my american perspective.

  • ha .... us Americans being that polite is rare...

  • in chicago people get really mad if u bump shoulders and start insulting u unless u apologize!!!!!!

  • i love it. very good.

Although I don't like how over confident some americans are. I really like how humble they are

  • This video was so cute XD

    Great job.

  • yes, I agree. You should make one for americans in japan.

  • hm.

  • Depends on where you are. In New York you dont have to apologies for anything

  • I dont know about the whole elevator thing...its not common to speak to strangers. Its weird. HOWEVER it is common to answer when someone is speaking to you in an elevator ...especially if your in a tourist place...well atleast I do that...

  • nice video you should make one with tips for americans

  • all the same, extremly well done

i need an american to japan one? lol!

  • NARUTO MUSIC @ THE END!!!

  • why is this funny music on the background lol xDD

btw i never talk to ppl in elevators lol

n im very humble anywhere i go lol xD

  • im that guy that always talks in elevators. just because "its not supposed to be done" its kinda funny how uncomfortable it makes people hehe

  • I like to stand with my back to the door and face everyone, THAT makes people uncomfortable

  • very cute ^.^ (personaly, im never tidy but...)

  • In the elevator Americans are just like the Japanese, we don't have small talk with strangers.

  • @hotcoffee15

    not at my school.....

  • depends on the people. Some people just make small talk.

  • ooo this was cute. I liked your video!

Generally though, Americans also do not talk in elevators unless it's all young people. It is the same as Japan when it comes to elevators! :)

  • Did I hear the Fantastic Plastic Machine?

  • fnny

  • omg so funny! ^^ ... on a good way ;)

but at first I was sure the second girl (ot around 2 min) was speaking in german!! xD xD xD

  • I have yet to make small talk in an elevator, I should try that.

  • So cute! And very true, good tips for visiters.

Although I never make my own bed, so I can't hold it against anyone else, lol!

  • Do men in Japan open doors for other people that are behind them? I find myself doing that all the time without noticing.

  • I live in Madrid/Spain is very diferent too, always say ..bye..( hasta luego) when you leave the elevator...for everyone, in deep I prever USA because is more let`s make money first

  • It's true though, someone always strikes up a conversation in the elevator if its' crowded

  • naruto song at the end lol

  • Nic video

i wanna know Asami!. she ´s so cute

  • cool video also KAWAII

  • Haha, that was very enjoyable!

    Thank you for that :)

  • i lov u gls

  • lovely lol im american and this is like perfect hehe

  • very cute and funny!

  • Too cute.

  • Your interpitation of the elevator was good but in my opinion it was a bit over done. Americans do use small talk like that but for the elevator it is a bit to much talking. Usually a quick hello and how are you with a I am good is just enough. Most americans you say anymore depends on the person you just made them uncomfortable or even annoyed. For example this would be a bad way to use talk with a stranger. But if it were in a bussniess setting or running into a friend your way is perfect.

  • Elevators are just plain uncomfortable anywhere! haha

  • Yea i thought that was a lil overdid too. よくがんばってくれた.

  • Also might depend on region. In urban areas, people are somewhat more aloof. In the country, you're more apt to see perfect strangers make small talk.

  • Loved the video, incredibly informative, I learned allot about both cultures, sound was so, so but the info was golden

  • you're cute ;). i enjoyed your skits haha.

  • Yep, pretty good and a good idea. I grew up in Washington DC with many international tourists. The ones who biggest culteral gaffs were the Japanese.

  • I'm an english american and watching other cultures perform your etiquitte is pretty cool.
