  • can anybody tell me the name of the group playing the music thanks.

  • I think I saw him in the Olympics back in the 80's. You could see that the poor USSR rider who came up against him in the finals knew he had no chance. I've been trying to figure out his name for years.

  • Hey can anyone tell me the name of this song thanks.

  • imagine if they had our equipment that we have today.. danmmmmm..

  • @Bogglenator1 Their equipment was the best at their time and in fact inspired the modern bike building. The German FES laboratories actually built the first full carbon bikes for the 88 Olympics. Despite his bikes were still made of steel he'll beat most of the modern guys with their Giant, Canondale. The bike is not as important for the sprint as the athlete is. The greater the distance the more important the bike becomes.

  • @abc12345678910390 You are kidding right?

  • Marc cavendish would beat him

  • @MrBommen

Either you are trying to be funny, or just not sure of what you are talking about. Cav is a great road sprinter, these guys are a different breed. Cav would possibly be able to hang in his draft but when he would come out to pass he would think he was on the runway behind the exhaust of an airbus A380.

  • put this guy against chris hoy, then see who is the fastest sprinter,, german drug taker

  • @MrBat01

Funny how Hoy is beating everyone and breaking all the world records of those who were drug users, and he is doing it clean. Fricken amazing!!!!!!

  • this dude was obviously some red curtain aryan drug monkey...u can defend him cause he looks all bad ass and whathaveyou like drago from rocky 4, but seriously people....these oxygenation enhancers and hgh nowadays are much more subtle, luts, however, is a 100% anabolic needle jockey!

  • @jcrabz

Yes I would agree the drugs have improved tremendously as technology advances. But, bottom line is

the playing field is always level at the top of the top and the best are still the best.

  • What about Marty Nothstein? 1994 double world champ and 34 National titles

  • @Dabones3232

Marty was definitely one of the best but just not the best in my opinion. Luts was without a doubt going to win gold in Los Angeles making it olympic dominance over 3 olympic games.

  • WOW

  • Better living through chemistry

  • @acerbas The competitive sports world is a sad place

  • Look at his face at 0:44, you can really see the dope kick-in.

  • @uranimo No Just entering his high focus mode

  • I know nothing of this fellow but given the massive and systemic doping that went on in the DDR it would be almost presumptuous to imagine he wasn't on some cocktail of illegal substances.

  • @mdshort

    Better living through chemistry

  • @mdshort I would think you are right

  • What‘s the name of the musical track?

  • All juiced back then I'm afraid.

  • @GregHuismans Like the rest of them

  • Doesnt anyone know the title of the song?

  • @humid111 Sorry it is just an optional track from youtube, not sure

  • Nearly 70kph!!!

    Cool music.

  • this 69kph...is that the average speed over the timed distance, or the maximum speed?

  • @MrMetabolism The last 200 meters...Flying 200...

    Cheers.

  • Chris hoy is the greatest, he's not even close to finishing yet and he's the greatest already, he will set the standard for everyone.

Records are there to be broken and chris will break them!

  • Check out Luts riding sub 10 in 1980 with no disc wheel no carbon frame and race gear, before people trained for the flying 200. Search Luts Hesslich. You'll find it.

And don't any of you even try to compare anybody to this guy.

9.98 no discs, no aero equipment...come on.

  • @bek959804 Yes he is awesome but it was in Russia where the banking is so steep and the current record there is about 0.5 quicker.

  • @bek959804 At least the tubes were oval in shape :)

  • I saw Lutz Hesslich in 1984 at the trials for the '84 (boycotted) olymipics and Damn, he Destroyed Mark Gorski. Freakin' guy doesn't even bother to get out of the saddle.

  • @bedlaka

And Gorski was a machine, these people don't understand how great Luts was, forget about the drugs unless you want to be naive and believe everyone was clean. Hesslich was gifted from birth and the DDR seeked him out and filtered through thousands of kids to find him. The drugs, (assuming he was on drugs, just being polite) were the enhancement of what was already there

  • Didn't Nothstein beat Hesslich in a match sprint final? Just saying. Lutz was excellent. My fastest 200 m was 11.6. Nowhere near the times those guys did!

  • @arklat No Nothstein never beat Hesslich in any final, Hesslich only lost to Kopylov in 81,82, and Huebner in 86.

  • Come on, he is from the DDR. The old commy Germany, they wanted their state to look as great as possible. so i bet he was so full of perfomence enhanching drugs that he couldnt make out the door with out any !

  • @Bjoendal

I would also believe that to be very true!! Lots of the germans changed sex through taking those drugs and steroids.

  • whoa, i hope to be this fast some day.. or at least break sub 13 haha!

  • Its unfair to compare Nakano, Hoy, & Bos to God aka Hesslich!

  • @chips108

Agreed! These guys couldn't shine his shoes

  • Nakano was racing pro. The amateurs were superior and faster throughout that entire era.

Hesslich would have eaten nakano for breakfast. Nakano was one of the smoothest pedallers but not of the same class of Hesslich.

  • @matchsprint101 Yea, he would have eaten him up, right after he prison raped him in front of the entire country of Japan, live on NHK.

  • screw all of this hoy, bos, morelon, its all about nakano.

10 time world champion, 10 CONSECUTIVE titles in a row

  • Daniel Morelon!

  • 69.248 km/h aaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhh¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡

  • @vigenuro read izagain, 284.

  • Pretty god dam amazing!

  • Yes he was, there was a season or two where, if I am not mistaken, this guy did not lose a single heat.

  • a great song but if this guy is the best sprinter of all time i'll eat my shorts, great drug enhanced sprinter sure, for the best look no further than Hoy.

  • I believe that all podium olympians find an edge. Banned or not, sometimes the docs are ahead of the uci rule book.

I believe Luts was the best regardless. Is Hoy clean?

What is clean to you. If a substance is a performance enhancer but not on the banned list, is a man clean?

Every generation has a man claimed clean, yet they beat the drug cheats times and records. Does that not make you wonder how they can be clean. There are so many ways to cheat. Naivety is innocence, that is nice.

  • Thanks for that matchsprint101!!! that brings back some fond memories; Lutz and Michael Hubner were my heroes when I rode track years ago.

  • Respect to Sir Chris Hoy. Unbeleivable athlete.

But, I'll bet if you ask Chris in 10 years, had you raced Hesslich both of you in your peak..., You may be surprised at his answer.

Athletes of this quality are very in tune with their abilities and also very intelligent of their predecessors abilities. Respect to King Hesslich.

  • @matchsprint101 I suspect you'd be the one who's surprised by the answer. And there is no respect in being fast while on performance enhancing drugs, especially the state sponsored operations.

If you want to see pure sprinting class, watch Cav; he's the undisputed greatest, with no drugs, in proper cycling on the road

  • @tuzmic

Chris Hoy is clean, I didn't know that

  • @tuzmic - Nup it's Perko now!

  • Old school!

  • What is the song. Kind of cool.

  • just download it no need to know the name

  • Therefore, Im just hoping that in 50 years we still have the Olympic Games as a form of international presents of human athletes and not genetically transformed creatures call humans. Otherwise, it might be leads to the destiny of the Ancient Olympic Games or the elimination of all high power and endurance sports in general (weight lifting, swimming, cycling, running ect.)

  • The statistics of the recent held Olympic Games shows clearly that china (as a bipolar political system) won with 51 Golden Medals beyond every other country. Not only because of the drugs because of dedication, motivation at the end of the government support or perhaps pressure to win.

P.S. Every country, every sport, every athlete wants to find the edge to win and we all remember the California BALCO scandal and the List of the athletes. We all know about the screening time of HGH and EPO 2

  • (2) Not only because the support was mandatory by government also because many people had free access to every Olympic Sports without any financial responsibilities.

Therefore the social countries have more talent screenings then countries where people mostly have to invest up front in tools and more important unpaid trainings time.

  • Every country after 1960 used enhancement substances to show the power, especially to show the dominance of the Eastern or Western Systems / ideologies. The most people forget that even with these substances you need to be a Natural / Talent and more you need the dedication and ambitions which leads you though your final victory. However, the social systems havent had a change in the world wide business marked but the sport field was unbeatable. (...)

  • song ???

  • Ah yes...The great doping days of the DDR

  • Did he manage to go under 10s for a F200?

  • I was told that he went under 10.00 seconds many times.

On a steel bike, with a rear disc only. I am afraid to say that you all just don't know how great he was.

    In fact do some research...9.7

  • Did you watch the video ? There was a time on screen .
