So next time you sit in front of the computer, look at a table, graph or map, or do a little maths, remember these people. Then again, with their discoveries named after them (Algebra and Algorithm) that shouldn't be hard.
And don't forget the computing essential "0". Can you imagine using roman numerals in computing?
The Arabs should thank the west for inventing cellphones, internet, free media, facebook, and sattelite television. Thanx to these things, they were able to realize (100 years later than most of the world) that they still live in the stone age, or middle ages!! If you notice, the turmoil in the middle east was happening everyone but in Israel.. why? because Israel is the only democracy there.
“A torrential stream of Arab thought and the material of truth and science was refined by Arabs who put it in order and presented in an ideal way that swept through Europe… In the European centres of science, every single scientist extended his hands to these Arab treasures to take from them a lot… every single book published in Europe at the time drew greatly upon Arab sources whose impact was very clear " - Sigrid Hunke: Allah's Sun over the Occident
Did Al Jazeera air this? I couldn't get what he was saying about Al Jazeera because it was obscured. I'm a westerner & I find Al Jazeera to be very truthful. They are critical of both the east & the west. I like watching news from another perspective & hearing & seeing things that you will never see on western news.
why does everyone say islam is the main problem they have ? if anything , it is the only thing bringing ppl of many cultures, ethnicities ect . together .... the problem lies not in religion but in people who use its name to justify wrongdoing and exercise dictatorship... these ppl are the ones holding back reason and prosperity !! a few hundred years ago muslims were the leaders in science, math, engineering, medicine. you name it. now the majority are oppressed with little education.
@bmw200000 maybe because its very easy to justify wrongdoing with religion. Just because an elite of the muslims in a few cities picked up some sciences from the greeks 1000 years ago doesnt mean that the people wasnt oppressed, or that religion were part of the success.
Do you think the average muslim were more educated and less oppressed before than today!? I saw a clip from iraq where blacks still are called "slaves" . Today they are only called slaves yesterday they were slaves.
@simonistic thats not true. They keep an eye on arabic media wich is filled with hatred against the west and especially the jews. This syrian researcher is not antiarabic, you are. Or do you support the clercs and the dictators wich he opposes in order to make progress?
@aztekyou1 No sir I do NOT support clercs and dictators. I dispise their power in goverment.
Memri tv lifts out only the negative about arabic television, they looved to show an arabic children show where young kids are told to kill jews. I have watched arabic television and I have NEVER in my life seen the things they love to spotlight for the American public. That they are isrealis is also an indicator or their falsehood. Before you run your mouth about antisemtism, i said isreali not jewish
@simonistic agree that they have a lot of clips from religiouschannels who may not be so widespread but memri brings material from several countries and many tv-stations. Not only from Hamaschannels or saudi extremists. The jews have been persecuted by muslims , christians, nazis, everybody, offcourse they are cautious! The religious muslim leadership have no solutions to anything and you know that they hate the jews and its always they who are highlighted or liberals who want change.
@simonistic So why did you react anyway? You say youre against dictators and nutty clercs and so whas the syrian researcher. Why didnt you react positive instead of going all defensive? Exactly what do you want memri to air? And why should israeli be an indicator of falsehood? Is it some new world order shit you crazy anti semite. Maybe simonistic only likes to watch big brother and mtv and therefore have no clue about the arabic media?
@aztekyou1 By the way I don't belive in new world order
I diden't explain what i ment by "isreali", You have to know that there are antiarab forces in isreal spreading propaganda, not beliving that is beeing blind to the truth. The man who threatened Southpark for their "mohammed" episode was an jewish man and an occupier of palestine terrortery (living on the newly build houses) who just "converted" to islam and started making threats against anything he could find. This is an fact
@simonistic This is exactly what I mean! Your way of argumenting. Its defensive.(Its the medias fault or a conspiracy) I know that there are anti arabforces. I recognize that. BUT this syrian man criticized your leaders (?) both political and religious. Why do you react when he wants a positive change? He thinks dictators and religious leaders are to powerful. If they are removed from power youll see less stupid comments. What do you want me to think about arabs? What do you think is positive?
@aztekyou1 I support this man and he is right, The arab people has been hijacked by dictators and religous nutjobs, but who put them there? and how can Obama defend moubarak in the latest problems in Egypt?
Who is the biggest supporter of Saudia Arabia in the world? who put Saddam Hussein in power? the list goes on and on... These are facts PROVIDED BY THE GOD DAMN CIA. I keep reading comments on how arabs should "get rid of their leaders" but no help come in Egypt because of Isreal/usa love
@simonistic Ok at first I thought you didnt. The biggest supporter is the american gov and a wealthy elite who makes a whole lot of money out of "free" markets, war, armsales, rebuildingcontracts, and cheap OIL etc. I dont like the hypocrites either so I dont trust their storys or support them. Theres an elite on both sides who gain from this situation. But the arabs are not innocent and its not like there was a democratic paradise in the middle east before WW1 or further back.
Dr.Ali al-Wardi ,the famouse scintist in sociology explained it fully in his very known book"wi`Aadh al-SalaTeen",and he was nearly killed by the clergy men many times, that`s the way Iraqies in particular, and Arabs in general, appreciate thier scientists.
You can find that throughout the whole history of this plagued nation, since 1450 years ago, only the Dr.s in furnitures of the Mosque ,like Beldawi and the like are respected, while in Islam,a mosque has no furnitures, only a carpet and platform.
From which Arab country do you see new technological developments, international TV shows, hybrid cars, world-famous actors and writers ... ? From none.
He's right: Arab countries are squashed by two forces, Islam and political dictatorship. They are so squashed in their lives between these two elements that no intellectual, cultural, political, or technological flourishing is possible.
Most Arab countries today are impoverished, oppressive, and truly sad!
Either they are spoon-fed Islamic fundamentalism or fascist anti-Western nationalism... So you see, how can common Arab folk ever learn to think outside of the box (of Islam, of pan-Arabism, of anti-Westernism, etc.) when they are continually fed close-minded propoganda?
I feel sorry for these people. I really do. They are capable of contributing plenty to the world, but instead engage in Islamic fundamentalism, America/Israel bashing, oppression, etc.
@gooduniforme Seriously...You have no fucking idea what arabs do or think. This shit you are watching is handpicked by Memri TV, which always shows the worst of the arab world.
it's not your fault. Your media companies don't like to show anything positive about the arabs, you need to broaden your perspective by turning of your television and actually read. It's the same in the arab world, there are channels that love to fuel the hate against the west by doing exactly what memri tv is doing
@simonistic I read your respons to gooduniforme and agree with every word. No need to argue,,,peace! (although I do think its necesarry to ridicule the clercs who have way to much influence over the social life in the arabworld. You cant deny that)
@simonistic Answer the question please: From which Arab country do you see new technological developments, international TV shows, hybrid cars, world-famous actors and writers ... ? (Forget about the tv shows and whatnot). Maybe my comment was too harsh, I don't like to generalize. I know 100% there are freedom-loving, secular Arabs out there. But the Arab world doesn't seem to be developing technologically, and many of the countries aren't free. What's there to disagree about?
@gooduniforme What the fuck are you talking about man, IRAN (NON ARABIC COUNTRY BUT PROB IN YOUR HATE LIST) launched a fucking SATELLITE by themself and their HEAVY SANCTIONED goverment,
If we are talking about inventions, we should talk about JAPAN and CHINA not where you are from. Stick your shit ford up your anti everything ass
@simonistic This is how you talk to people? You are very classy :) I am not American, and Iran is a great country, very smart people, they all go on to do engineering and business degrees in the US and Europe, but unfortunately, there is something called an ISLAMIC DICTATORSHIP. And as for inventions, Japan and China are closer by definition to the Western world than Arab countries. Bie bie. You also don't read very well, i said ARAB COUNTRY, I did not say Iran.
@gooduniforme Lol now i strongly suspect your an iranian nationialist. Of the worst kind.
Iran is not arabic, but don't try to give some kind of picture that you are "struck by islam" when it's the iranians themself doing it to their own people. I have heard it all, but that fact is no escaping
Germanintelectual Sigrid Hunke: “This astonishing quick jump on the ladder of civilization - which the sons of the desert made from scratch - deserves to be taken into consideration in the history of human thought. This invites us to wonder: How has this happened?” - Sig rid Hunke: Allah's Sun over the Occident pp 305,306
@myyou1 Ok, my previous comments were a bit too much, I'd say. Here's the thing: yes, the Arabs had their golden days. But what I think happened is that they stayed behind in conservative society when the rest of the developing world began modernizing and societies became more open. And I think parts of the Arab world are still stuck in the 1500s, juxtaposed in a world of global change, movement and ideas.
Your examples were technological [TV, hybrid, etc] not cultural. My point was that the conservativsm of a thousand years ago did not prevent them from producing some of the amazing advancement in Science, Technology, and even strong contribustion to medern Humanitarian law.
It is not religion or Conservatism but Modern Western supported dictators of all types (Kings, etc) that is holding back the Muslim world. If you look at western universities, you see faithfull Muslims
@myyou1 As I said, they had their golden days. It matters not what was in the past with algebra and Avicenna and whatever or whoever else but whether you can adapt to the times and subsequently flourish.
Muslim Dictators --> Al-Jazzera --> Propaganda --> Extremism --> Hatred --> Violence --> Terrorism --> 9/11 --> War on Terror --> Democracy in the Middle East that will break this cycle.
They are corrupt dictators who bring poverty and frustration to their failed societies, and they blame "the Great Satan" or "the Jews" or "Westerners" or "Hindous" or "Russians" or "infidels" or "kuffar" so as to deflect their people's anger.
America is right, negative world opinion is fickle and misinformed.
so the tragic paradox continues: between self-righteous christians and muslims. there's only one worse thing than a terrorist; and that is a cloaked self-righteaous one, justifying his terror, um, political correctly put, actions,of those they oppress from both individual, and national incl.international development!
well, all of what I've heard is a criticism !as a syrian I can't see any thing special with the guy, what he did ?the only fact is that he is good in criticizing the arabic media !so....what is his project & his solution ?
Syria has produced many highly educated and civilized people in the past. Even Queen Noor of Jordan is a Syrian-American. It's sad to see their country under the thumb of a thug like Assad who just wants to help terrorists blow up themselves and others.
Can you imagine the changes that would take place of he and Wafa Sultan formed a govermnent?! The middle east would be changed forever. The mentality of the region would be brought forward to the twentith first century! I think that the Nobel Peace Prize should be given out to him,and Wafa Sultan!
Their is no comparison to be made between Burhan Ghalioun (the man in the video) and Wafa Sultan.
Sultan tells naive, emotional Westerners exactly what they want to hear and knows quite well that they will hastily and uncritically accept everything she feeds them. Further, she has no intellectual weight at all. She has no expertise in Islam.
To further bear down the weight of your ignorance, you think this sort of language is nonexistent in the Middle East. That upon hearing it, Arabs will suddenly overthrow their (US-installed) authoritarian governments. Actually most Arabs would tend to agree with this fellow, as does most of the panel audience in the video.
The video was broadcast on Al-Jazeera, by the way.
she is a doctorate and a highly intellignet person, she is more emotional because she has gone through harder times than this man. she speaks about diferent subjects, such as family members being forced into child-marriage. different subjects, no less amazing.
Paradox244, a lot of well educated syrians like him, but Unfortunately syrian citizens can't say their right and modern opinions because of the current savage syrian regime. I wish peace for the whole middle east, peace out.
man, am not hearing wat khaleejis r telling me, am from Iraq..so wat do u want to happen? to keep fighting? more than 2 million Iraqis since the 1980 not enough yet? be real.
as for nasralla, get over the conspiracy theories bro.
y dont israel go and hit jordan?
we are not in a position for such suicidal adventures.
There is a common ground the 2 sides can agree on BUT thanks to religion, this is not gona happen soon.
let's not be hypocrites here, we r talkign about the world's number one power. how many more Iraqis should die ha? how many more Lebanese(it was gna b a civil war coz of that nasrala guy)...
POLITICS IS COMMON INTEREST.
look at EMIRATES, look at SAUDI, look at EGYPT, look at JORDAN. y u think they're not hit? coz they chose to co-operate.
they are pro-american all the way and see how they r living, I LIVE THERE.
Israel could have destroyed all of Lebanon but they destroyed south of Beirut and souther lebanese villages where hizbolla are. Hizbolla's move was irresponsible, I was in Beirut two weeks before the war.
Get over these emotions that wont do u any good man.
yeah that is in theory. And what happened when it was applied??? look at saudi, look at iran, look at iraq... It screwed up GENERATIONS... face it man.
wat about history? caliphs killed, ummara'a mo'amineen killed.
I'm only saying separate politics and religion, am not saying cancel religion.
“Islamic society did not witness the narrow-mindedness, paralysis of thought, barrenness of soul and the fight against science and scientists that Europe witnessed. History says that 32000 scholars were burnt alive! There is no argument that the history of Islam did not see this horrible persecution of freedom .. Muslims had an exclusive knowledge of science in these dark ages. No religion had ever obtained exclusive control of authority, and at the same time gave ... freedom as Islam" Sedillot
The MEMRI BS which is managed by former Israeli agents and military people is misrepresenting Arab discourse for change. The Arabs and Muslims will be part of the intelectual focus as they were for a thousand year -- while Europe languished unde the Jude-Christian abscurantism.
So next time you sit in front of the computer, look at a table, graph or map, or do a little maths, remember these people. Then again, with their discoveries named after them (Algebra and Algorithm) that shouldn't be hard.

There is a common ground the 2 sides can agree on BUT thanks to religion, this is not gona happen soon.
take care.

did u hear wat mubarak said? TRANSALTION:
"the time of political adventures is OVER".
let's not be hypocrites here, we r talkign about the world's number one power. how many more Iraqis should die ha? how many more Lebanese(it was gna b a civil war coz of that nasrala guy)...
POLITICS IS COMMON INTEREST.
look at EMIRATES, look at SAUDI, look at EGYPT, look at JORDAN. y u think they're not hit? coz they chose to co-operate.

What about the arabian/persian gulf countries ha?
y dont u hate their presidents?
they are pro-american all the way and see how they r living, I LIVE THERE.
Israel could have destroyed all of Lebanon but they destroyed south of Beirut and souther lebanese villages where hizbolla are. Hizbolla's move was irresponsible, I was in Beirut two weeks before the war.
Get over these emotions that wont do u any good man.
Politics is common interest.

yeah that is in theory.
