You can turn down the lead vocals then turn up the microphone volume so that it plays like real karaoke. In fact, I've done that on most my other songs. I just forgot to on this and one other.

Yes, you actually sing. It comes with a microphone, and judges you on your accuracy of pitch. You don't need to sound good, just have the right pitch.

On the harder difficulties, you have to get the note right on, or you don't get points for it. On Easy and Medium, the game cuts you some slack and it'll count towards your score if you're somewhat close to the actual note.

In game, you can change the volume for the main track vocals and the mic vocals. Being that this was one of my first two videos, I didn't know this. All my others have the main vocals turned down and the mic turned up.
You can change the mic sensitivity and volume in-game, along with the volume of the vocal track, so he can adjust his sound to fit what he wants. I think he just turned the sensitivity down so that his voice only comes out when he's loud or really close to the mic.
When you get Overdrive as a vocalist, can you hit the freestyle sections simply by sustaining the note on the last phrase to make it longer, or does it have to be a whole 'nother phrase? Normally I just see people either scream into the mic like in stereotypical metal or say something, like congradulating the guitarist.
the mic basically reads the pitch of your voice...you can basically hum the pitch and you can stell get the phrase but then it doesnt make it any fun. Then when the little circles come you have to tap it or shake it as if it were a tambourine
Also, they have a phenome and consonant detector, so on the parts with no pitch indicator (usually where the vocalist is just talking), you have to hit the words themselves.
does the vocal "bar" changes on each dificulty mode? i mean, i saw another video on medium dificulty and that "pitch" arrow didnt show, only the words..
Personally you havea good voice but i think this is only in medium...i can get a 100% on Dead on Arrival by FOB on medium and im sure i can get 100% on this...I think when you were young is harder on hard...i suggest you try dead on arrival on hard and tell me your score :D
just wondering, do you just have to get the pitching and the words right? because theres some bands on this that have really hard lead singers to recreate like iron maiden, metallica and foo fighters. They all have really unique voices and it seems almost impossible to replicate legends like Dickinson
You only need to match pitch and (for songs with talky parts) vowel sounds. You don't need to sound just like the original to score well, as long as you are on pitch.
for talky parts, do you know what to do when they're screaming, like in "I'm so sick"? I've tried many different vowels/sounds and never get the scream right :/ any advice?
i've learned that on some songs like flyleaf you actually have to "vibrate" your voice on those parts. i dont know how to explain it but the mic picks up stuff like that.
No offense, but this is on Expert mode? I thought the point of Expert on the vocals was that you had to have everything down from the pitch to all the notes. This doesn't even sound like you're singing, it just sounds like somebody mumbling along to the radio. I can sing pretty decently and this just boosted my confidence to tackle Expert when I get this game.
it's alot harder than you think. you may be good at singing but that wont make you good at this game. try timmy & the lords of the underworld as you first expert song and we'll see how good of a singer you really are.

You only need to match pitch and (for songs with talky parts) vowel sounds. You don't need to sound just like the original to score well, as long as you are on pitch.

for talky parts, do you know what to do when they're screaming, like in "I'm so sick"? I've tried many different vowels/sounds and never get the scream right :/ any advice?

i've learned that on some songs like flyleaf you actually have to "vibrate" your voice on those parts. i dont know how to explain it but the mic picks up stuff like that.

No offense, but this is on Expert mode? I thought the point of Expert on the vocals was that you had to have everything down from the pitch to all the notes. This doesn't even sound like you're singing, it just sounds like somebody mumbling along to the radio. I can sing pretty decently and this just boosted my confidence to tackle Expert when I get this game.

it's alot harder than you think. you may be good at singing but that wont make you good at this game. try timmy & the lords of the underworld as you first expert song and we'll see how good of a singer you really are.

yeah, just going into overdrive. i actually find vocals to be pretty easy on this game... i'm not trying to brag, it's just my opinion. if you have any kind of pitch control with your voice then you can at least get by
