  • His first film and he gets to sing, dance, and kiss Judy Garland. WOW.

  • these two i love ...ALOT

  • love this <3

  • This sucks!!!

  • @brodiegirl95 you suck

  • Why is there a completely different song dubbed over it?! -:(

  • @1996MissA The song I am hearing is "For Me and My Gal". What song are you hearing?

  • @ChicagoSouthDan Okay, now I'm hearing For Me and My Gal.... that's weird. Before I heard something different, I don't know what song it was. Nevermind! :)

  • @ChicagoSouthDan Actually, on the computer, the song is fine, but when I try to play the video on my iPod touch, the song is something like "Sick as a dog"? It's really strange... :/

  • Icons.

  • i think at the end of this scene the old guy was like "ok you punks now buy something or get the hell out!" lol

  • My two favorite actors. Put together creates an awesome motion picture

  • @stewartpictures I thumbs up-ed so many time!! :p

  • Does anyone know where i can find the lyrics of this song?

  • best joke of all time 4:01-4:11

  • 'The Best of Me' - Nicholas Sparks brought me here! :D I have always loved Gene Kelly and Judy Garland them together is just AMAZING!

  • The Nicholas Sparks' book - The best of Me brought me here :) nice song!

  • Why is there another song dubbed over it?

  • Their voices....they just fit perfectly together....like pieces from a jigsaw puzzle!! Beautiful!!!!

  • i luv gene is so sexy!!! and judy is really pretty!!!! luv them both!!!!!

  • sometimes i think that i was born in the wrong time n_n xxx

  • Judy and Gene amazing!!!! singers and dancers wonderful!

  • Golden Hollywood at its best! Thank you, Judy Garland and Gene Kelly for doing this wonderful scene!

  • This video's been hacked.

  • What happened to the original sound? Last I played this two weeks ago, I heard Judy & Gene. Now they've been smothered by... what???

  • Love this so so so much. Thanks for posting - you've made my day xx

  • Gene Kelly is just gorgeous

  • See there's REASON they call this stuff the golden age of Hollywood!!

It gives the film medium a sense of identity that cannot be matched in today's society. I mean seriously, can you see Taylor Lautner doing anything this magical? Let alone seeing a movie studio try to do something like this again?

This is where the 'magic' comes from. And as long as we can appreciate it, it will always be there for us :-) Like like like!!!

  • Clicking the Love button!!!!! <3

  • God, that man was way too handsome and charming! Judy is just darling!

  • True triple threats...

  • They make a sexy couple like Humphrey Bogart and Lauren Bacall.

  • It makes me sick that Judy thought so ill of herself.

  • @lynseypdxda she didnt like herself?

  • Wow, I really love this song. =) And, Judy looks just precious here.

  • It's all about melody...there is no melody in todays songs.

  • Not sure what it is....whether today's celebrities just are not as talented or if they just are not allowed to show their true talents.....the older stars (Kelly, Garland, Astaire, Sinatra, Davis Jr....just to name a few) it seems could do it all. Sing, dance, act, and then some. Maybe people are too narrowly focused and try to specialize in just one thing now.

  • LOVELY!! though words fall short to describe it!

  • this vid made me so happy :)

  • Oh i would have loved to been Gene's gal...that's real romance right there what a man

  • Wow. He was hot.

  • what's happened to society? why aren't things like this anymore? now everything is about sex and drugs.. why can't it just be about loving and my gal anymore?

  • @miss9starr7 Yes...It does seem life can be difficult with the world happenings. Don't you just love YOU TUBE so we can find some GOOD entertainment.

  • @miss9starr7 Well... in all fairness, Judy kinda was all about sex & drugs too... :)

  • @AOG93 She abused drugs, but I have not heard that she slept around.

  • @AOG93 I haven't heard anything about Judy ever sleeping around or being all about sex. Judy did abuse drugs because she was consistently making one movie after the other once she was signed with Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, which made for a hectic schedule and Judy, Mickey Rooney, and others were given amphetamines and barbiturates to "help" them perform.

Judy wasn't all about drugs. She couldn't help the drug addiction and it ended up being a lifelong struggle, ending in her death.

  • @miss9starr7 Yeah right. The Cold War, two World Wars, the constant terror of utter nuclear annihilation, people bashing up other people and hanging them from trees because of the colour of their skin. It was a real cake walk back then.

  • @miss9starr7

Yeah...and the 20's, 30's and 40's were signified by innocent and church-going type people right? Especially in Hollywood!?

  • Sheer delight. Both stars really enjoying themselves and entertaining us. This kind of movie will never lose its appeal. NEVER !!

  • 1:48-1:53 I almost fell out of my seat; that harmony was so perfect.

  • The one & only Judy Garland. Perfect, tiny little dynamo of talent. The studio doctors got her started on drugs to keep her weight off. Then she needed another drug to let her fall asleep. I do believe that created her life-long struggle with addiction. Her spirit lives each time we view & remember.

  • Good Gracious. I love Judy Garland soooo much. She is so beautiful and her voice is the greatest thing I have ever heard! Too bad entertainment now-a-days hasn't the slightest idea of what talent is. It is a shame. <3

  • Crescendo at 2:22 is sublime.

  • You know what I can't eat for breakfast?...Luncheon and dinner! Love it! These two make it look so easy! Their brand of perfection comes along only once in the history and unfolding of the universe.

  • Total perfection. Even when Judy is fake-playing the piano, the choreography of her hands is perfection.

  • 7 people have absolutely no taste.

  • I was born in the wrong century :/

  • Oh yeah two-step at 3:17!!! :D Gene Kelly and Judy Garland are gangsta <3

  • I know Gene Kelly had extensive stage experience prior to this, but it is still amazing that he is so good, since it is his first film.

  • She was amazing, there's no doubt about that, but i'm afraid Gene has nothing on Mr. Donald O'Connor !

  • 7 people must not like real talent.

  • I'm watching this for the first time as I shop for my first ever pair of tap shoes online...unintended perfect timing? I think yes.

  • @JRHhhify Perfect timing, provided you are not initimidated by the dancing in this video.

  • @ChicagoSouthDan for me, it's more of a master class demonstration!

  • She has such a cute laugh and he is.. well, just astounding

  • i luv gene kelly he is so hott!! and i luv judy!!!

  • What voice !

    Quelle voix !

  • I always think its funny when they have her pretending to read the music in her movie. Those two on screen together were amazing <3

  • When I see this wonderful scene I can only conclude that humans have an important role in the universe.

  • @valente8888 Indeed. An hygienic paper role.

  • Judy Garland has such a cute laugh <3 everything about her was just darling.

  • Gene Kelly is my dream guy ... sigh

  • 6 dislikes? Who the hell could dislike gold like this?

  • The bells are ringing for claret and blue

the birds are singing for claret and blue

    everybody is knowing

    to the villa we're going

    and the villa are showing

we're the best in the land (best in the land)

  • WOW what an amazing smile he had ..*sigh* I wish I was Judy!! I loved Gene Kelly when I was very young and I will love him forever!

  • He plays such a heel in this movie. I wanted so for Judy to end up with George Murphy!

  • The transcriptions are hilarious.

"We're gonna fill a little hole for 2 or 3 or 4"-"Blow long thought to often need all full"

  • <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3

  • I'm 18 years old, my mom and dad loved these old singers, comedians and actors, they loved the classic movies and I was lucky enough to grow up (in the 1990's!) with the likes of Gene Kelly, Milton Berle, Glenn Miller, Tommy Dorsey, Duke Ellington, Louis Armstrong, Dean Martin and Frank Sinatra, Bob Hope, Jimmy Stewart. All of these wonderful starts, and a heck of a lot more, were introduced to me by my parents, and my golly am I thankful. We just don't have the same level of talent nowadays.

  • \*♥♥*/ ¡ Oh those taps ! A real madness \*♥♥*/

\*♥♥*/ ¡ Oh ces claquettes ! Une vraie folie \*♥♥*/

  • Her dancing in those shoes... how?! They're wonderful together. :)

  • Judy and Gene are more desirable that the talentless people of today like Miley Virus and Justin Beaver it's not even funny!

  • @OurGangFan I completely agree with you. Our culture today has accepted so much crap as talent, Gene and all the people with real talent up there are crying from Heaven. Well, at least they have good music in Heaven now that Gene and MJ are up there.

  • @OurGangFan Nice play on the hacks' last names, by the way.

  • @OurGangFan Who compared Bieber and Cyrus to Garland and Kelly in the first place? And why is Justin Bieber always spoken of as though he's the only singer working today?

  • there should be a 'love' button for this video...

  • 0:19 LOVE Gene's smile there!

  • @selmasmale Oh GAWD. His smile... makes me... mmmeeellllltttttt<3

  • is Gal a name?^^'

  • @malenkamolly um nooo, that would be another word for girl...

  • @shannonanna91 thanks! :)

  • @malenkamolly noooo.... lol it's short for girl

  • Comment removed

  • I love classic musicals

  • Such a grat movie with such great artists. I'll love Judy till the day I die!!

  • just lovely :)

  • They are both one-offs and absolutely great, but I can't take my eyes off her whenever she's on the screen. it's not that she's so pretty, and that skirt is all wrong, but her personality is just electric, I've never seen anything like it. It must have been wonderful to work with her when she was in her prime.

  • gene kelly is ridiculously charming, handsome, sexy in this. I can't help but smile.

  • @deepcosmiclove the original song is for me and my gal in the movie with the same name as you can see the mouth is moving way out of synchronization

  • could anyone tell me what year is this kovie from?? please :)

In between The wizard of Oz and Singing in the rain.

  • @lrita 1942!

  • @lrita 1942

  • her laugh is so cute

  • They are really singing for me and my gal the piano is real they just added music to it

  • There is no dubbing in those days. That's a full orchestra playing off camera. It's all live.

  • she is very charming and imortal vertue

  • Hard to believe that this was Gene Kelly's first film! He's naturally perfect on camera.

  • You can tell the piano is fake since it's not making any music.

  • Judy and Gene had great chemistry in this film!

  • floridaguy107, are u using a non-computer based browser? It plays a different song on mobile browser but if played on a computer browser should play the original music.

  • .

... Does anyone else hear a song that starts out "Don't get me wrong..." instead of the real sound?

  • This is the movie that caused me to fall in love with Judy Garland. Specifically this, and many other scenes.

  • i like her dancing alot to i wish i was dancing with her

  • "Ding dong, ding dong, do you hear the bells go ding dong?" Was there ever a sweeter voice than hers?

  • favourite film of Busby Berkeley- but his in Warner's were beter

  • I LOVE her laugh

  • It's so great to see a musical number that doesn't have a cut every three seconds. Gene Kelly said he never forgot how nice Judy was to him on his first film; it's why he was so patient with her on her last film with MGM when she was troubled and not showing up on the set. Apparently it took six months to complete(an extremely long time in those days) but he remained loyal to her.

  • i adore this! just amazing!

  • Its marvelous the both are singing and dancing too

Best American entertainment. Thank you very much!!!

  • Its marvelous the both are singing

  • love this song! they're so great together :D

  • How odd. I'm viewing this from my iPhone YouTube app and there is a song playing (sick as a dog?) instead of the sound from the film. However, when I view this same video from the YouTube webpage through safari it's normal.

  • 5 minutes of pure bliss... *sigh*

  • I did not notice this before, but Gene Kelly's voice improved quite a bit from when he first played the song on the piano and when he sings with Judy later. I guess she inspired him:)

  • What is this movie called?

  • @JediMasterOW For me and my gal

  • @banegagol seriously? The song's name and movie name is the same?

  • @JediMasterOW Yes. There were several Holywood musicals named after a feature song. Another is Singing in the Rain, also with Gene Kelly.

  • She was SO beautiful - beyond words. her grace - her face - her figure - her dancing and of course - most beautiful of all her voice. The fact that she thought so ill of herself is a true tragedy. I love this woman so much...and gene well... gene... what a hunk and a voice to melt you if his smile already hadn't

  • @carlosthomasfernande

Well, to tell the truth, I've already melted by his smile so I never heard his voice... :D

  • @carlosthomasfernande Your'e right, mgm really ruined how sh saw herself.

  • @carlosthomasfernande

    I coulden't agree more!!!

  • Who disliked this? I'm kicking their fucking asses. What is NOT to like about this? I don't care if it only 4 people.

  • The most beautiful actress of that era, and the most handsome actor of that era...

  • gene kelly is just the cutest thing ever.

  • omg these two :) they're awesome

  • He's too freaking sexy it's not even funny. <3 They should've gotten married. They were so perfect together. (:

  • @westsidestory97 Do not mistake art for life. 1) Gene Kelly came across as the nicest guy in the world on camera; in real life he could be a sonofabitch---e.g., when he and Stanley Donen first met, Kelly was the lead and Donen was in the chorus, and Kelly NEVER let Donen forget that. 2) Kelly was not even faintly bisexual, which meant he was NOT Garland's type. Garland's father was gay, and that kind of set the patten for the rest of her life--just like it has for Liza's.

  • @cowboynyc NO. Gene was NOT bisexual.

And, they were great friends. Liza called him Uncle Gene... lucky.her. ;P

  • @westsidestory97 but then there would have been no liza ;)

  • @silvershields True, true... But they were the best team ever. They should've dated at least. (:

  • @silvershields There might have been a Liza, but she would have been Liza Kelly, rather than Liza Minelli.

  • They don't make movies like they use to... =(

  • they are gorgeous together i love judy garland. =)

  • I love these two together

  • I feel fuzzy inside....from his smile :D

  • Gene Kelly is sooooo dashing...

  • TALENT TALENT TALENT. Enough said...

  • hey how come when I tried to download this video, I got some weird soundtrack instead? but when I watch it in youtube it sounds fine??

  • why don't they make them like this anymore? meaning both movies and men

  • @truebrulz men are sometimes still like this. just the movies dont show them.

  • what year did they do this?

  • Man is there nothing these two can't do...sing,dance,act,play piano

  • @ :48 seconds...it would of been better if she said "because i'm a hermaphrodite"

    ;D

  • your just silly.

  • Cinnamon39 When your perscribed drugs by a doctor that means your being told or forced to take them, da. So she did what she was told because that's what actresses did in her era. You can't blame the patient but you can blame the overzelious medical profession da. Look at how happy clinics are about performing abortions these days I think it's called the right to choose, which really isn't a choice at all but more of some freekish mandate.

  • Vengeance509 - . . . "Filthy orifices" are reserved for you. I have better things to do. Obviously your mother should have swallowed. BTW, did all your mother's children have single digit IQs? (For the record, I "threw no cheap insults at Judy Garland". She opened her mouth and swallowed the pills and the booze. That is a FACT. Case closed. Time for your nap now. Go bye-bye!

  • I watched this with my grandmother and I asked her, "What the hell is wrong with these actors, grandma?"

She replied, " Oh, that's just talent."

  • Why did America treat Judy so bad?

  • @MrFalconford - America didn't treat Judy Garland bad. She treated herself to booze and pills. That was her downfall!

  • @Cinnamon39 Technically, it was L.B.Mayer that "treated" her to booze and pills. She didn't really have a choice in the matter.

  • @Cinnamon39 Yeah, ass-wipe, try to imagine what it is like to support your ENTIRE ADULT FAMILY from the time you are 5 years old, which Garland did. And had a mother that pumped her, from age 9 (NINE!) with amphetamines & barbiturates.

Jesus, she's lucky she died at 47 so she missed moronic crap from ignorant fuck-asses like you.

As it is, this tiny woman packed more awesome success into 47 years than any of the monkeys of today.

No respect. No one has an ounce of respect today.

  • @Vengeance509 - You have a filthy mouth and you are mis-informed. It is unfortunate that you are unable to carry on a normal discourse without becoming so vulgar and rude. Your comments are those of an ignoramus.

  • @Cinnamon39 I'm thrilled that you think my mouth is filthy, as I expect you know your way around particularly filthy orifices. One also wonders: "Did Cinnamon's mother write his retort for him?" Your reply is a trifle slapdash. You may be able to throw cheap insults at Judy Garland, but in terms of discourse, you are hapless.

Moreover, you lack the remotest amount of wit and your mother likely wanted to abort you, changed her mind at the last minute, and then regretted it.

    So do I.

  • there was always something about Gene Kelly that made him so unbelievably charming, he makes me smile hahahaha :)

  • @anniemann101 I do not believe that her not being able to dance is true. I seem to recall Gene talking about her, and, how when she was shown a step, she picked it up. One of the things I like best about the scene is the sign on the wall "Where There Is Music, There's Love". A great slogan if the music does in fact do so.

  • Judy is the only partner that Gene Kelly danced with where you look at her more than him. She was really something truly special.

  • so amazing!

gosh, there will never EVER be anyone like judy garland. simply untouchable. we love you, judy. <3

  • Nothing short of enchanting ...

  • Their real life chemistry totally shows in this.

  • THIS was the point in time when she was at her best . . . Thank You for generously posting this tribute . . . lovely!

  • I feel so happy inside just watching this. How adorable they were together! Gene and Judy forever! :)
