I met Larry at Garden State Park in 1987. You could tell he just loved the track and gambling; very typical New Yorker in that regard. He called the sports oddsmakers "professional good-guessers" in reference to how well they make the lines, as games seem to come down to the last second for the spread.
There isn't a man alive (thank God he's still here) who loves horse racing more than he does. It's why he'll drive anywhere to fill in too. Get well Larry!
Get well soon Larry!... My best "Larry story" from recently.....my family and I went to Harrahs Chester racetrack last year, and the regular announcer must have been off for a day, and by chance Larry was filling in. My 19 yr old sister hears his voice as he begins calling the first race we were there for and yells out "Wait....Is that the Djeekyhoolamoona guy??? YESSS!!!!"....(She cracked up when I showed her that video from freehold)....great day and a great memory
Your run is not over, Larry! We've all seen horses break at the start (especially the ones I seem to pick) and then come back to win the race. This is just a temporary setback, Larry, and we will soon see you in the announcer's booth doing what you do better than anyone in the business!
The WORLD is cheering you, Larry... and when you tip off cover and fan 3-wide at the top of the stretch, the ROAR you hear will be your Freehold faithful!
