I don't trust any of those militant organizations any further than I can throw the Statue of Liberty. (And I get muscle strain just thinking abbout it.)
Without provoking you can't reach the affected people. And how can you provoke gamers most effective? I think by games and videos like this. And it seems to be successful ;-)
Yes, the message is almost lost, but films would be very boring if you didn't need to think about them, wouldn't they?
Point 3:
I didn't understand your message completely :-/
Of course, 1500 mails are a drop in the ocean. But if really nobody cares about toxics, your next console will contain much more toxics! ;-)
I think you didn't understand Greenpeace's message in their video: one console almost doesn't take effect on pollution. But all small things together cause a very huge pollution. It's not enough just to reduce pollution of cars, coal-fired power plants and so on. You have to reduce pollution in every point of view - including the small effect caused by consoles!
And even if almost nobody throws his console away, their production pollutes the environment, esp. as they contain toxics.
No. But cars create brown clouds over major cities with busy streets. Take a look at Mexico City... its covered by mountains on all 4 sides and that brown cloud never dissappears.
The thing is that greenpeace is about recycling. Its not what the console produces, its what the console has inside of it. When you throw away a console into a landfill it doesn't do the environment any good. The reason why Nintendo got a very low score is because they don't recycle, reduce, or reuse.
Microsoft is at the bottom as well because well... I think that its pretty obvious....
cheat, I'm not supporting Greenpeace or whatever, but...
I think GP means the number of consoles that ever existed. Out of that number, I think 60 million seems feasible. Every console ends up in the landfill unless if it gets recycled.
Who does throw away a video game console? Sold or not sold, it seems rare enough itself... They aren't talking about ps2, gamecaube, or xbox 1 and beyond. They are talking about this generation. Even if you didn't sell it, I doubt you would throw something that expensive in the garbage.
Meaning, saying "Oh I don't want my console; I'll just throw it away." seems a bit on the irrational side of logic compared to selling it or giving it away.
Unfortunately they aren't talking about this generation :/
And cheat, the thing is, it isn't about selling your console when you don't want it. It's about what happens at the very end. Then, the console will be worthless. It's then that it is recycled, or thrown away.
I would consider the consoles a little behind the Atari era to be worthless in the terms of trade, with a few in between. But with that aside, yes I agree that what they are doing is beneficial, but on a small term.
Its the fact that they are picking their battles wrongly that is irritating. You can tell me to recycle a console, but compared to all the other, I dunno, carelessly littered trash in the world, I would think tugging on the big issues would be better than going to a bunch of small ones instead. "I keep try to get away, but they keep dragging me back in!" x_x
In fact, I think it's an exaggeration. Considering how many gamers there are in the world, they're basically trying to grab their attention to global issues...
I mean, GP isn't really doing anything other than putting on propaganda in this case. Like common activists.

The sad thing is people are falling for it,
you do realise that the whole purpose was to get Fanboys to compete with eachother over fanboy company loyalty loser honor.

Yes, a sad fate it is... And all that is left over is some kind of sweaty shame of a nerd.

In other words, don't you think saying "Oh I don't want my console; I'll sell it." seem way too simplistic?
Ya gotta think about what happens after it gets sold, then after its next consumer sells it, and etc.

No I meant the consoles that are broken or don't work properly.
As far as I know though, GP only takes the video game propaganda as a minor campaign.

Oh, I thought you just meant them in general....

There's one objection though... as Greenpeace being activists, I don't think they overlooked the problem about cars.
In fact, I think they're trying to dig as deep as they can. It's like PETA and their quest for "animal liberation", but on a different scale.
EvansWaterFactory 4 years ago
@evans:
Q: Do you dig a 6 foot deep whole to put in a potted plant?
cheat2484 4 years ago
Nope. Good analogy, but in this case I meant the activists are taking in every single bit of detail.
