  • JESUS FLYING DRAGON HOLY CRAP!

  • i managed to learn punkin head and mighty guard by this point from the local enemies

  • LOL! Eat the dragon?! C'mon Quina eat the dragon! Eat the dragon! That made my day XD

  • GAAAAAAAAME?

  • My favourite character in the series, or one of them, is Reno especially in Advent Children when him and Rude were talking to the silver-haired people

  • They should really make a remake of this game

  • how many chocograph peices are there to make a whole chocograph?

  • God, that Chocobo digging game was freaking FRUSTRATING!!!!

  • i caught all the frogs and i waited like 2 hours with the game on and nothing is in the pond except for 2 little fish what should i do

  • Tip for Hot & Cold: the dig point is determined by the chocobo's feet, not its beak. This makes it much easier to find the exact location by just moving on a grid.

  • hey eddie wats up??

  • "What's That?!" is a VERY nice ability. When you're back attacked, that ability will reset your rows to the way they are normally. A VERY handy trick. Especially during certain plot battles where you're ALWAYS back-attacked.

  • quina looks like the koopa clown car

  • I hate freaking chocobo hot and cold! It took me forever to get all the chocographs! FOREVER!

  • "Eat the dragon! Eat the dragon Quina!" It's official, I've heard it all.

  • make sure Freya get's the finishing hit on all dragons you fight because later you get a skill with her called dragon crest and the more dragons you kill the stronger Dragon quest becomes.

  • Game...Game?! GAMEEE!!! XD I love you HCBaily.

You've already finished this game, I know. But you can run into Ironites in Burmecia too and they'll be a lot easier to kill there since you'll be stronger.

And I LOVE the Chocobo Hot N Cold game. It's a fun way to pass the time when you don't feel like following the plot and the rewards are awesome. Normally, I'm the type to wait until the end of the game to do all the sidequests, but I actually did this one when I first came across it.

  • Hello! This is HCbailly, and don't you wish your black mage was HOT like me ON LET'S PLAY FINAL FANTASY NIIINE!

  • for some reason the chocobo field music reminds me of pianta village in mario sunshine, the forest reminds me of noki bay

i love how relaxing the forest music is and the field music feels nice and jaunty, not like sambe de chocobo i belive it was called in FF4 jaunty but i bit like it could make you dance =D

  • 4:13 Ironite: That's for trying to eat me, fatty!

  • "Well he just likes anyone with a tail ether on your head or on your ass." ROFL

  • U can learn Mighty Guard from those mutipul colored dragons and Pumkin Head from Ladybugs

  • GAME!!! Game? GAAMEEEE!?!

  • 11:11 Thank you HCBailly, I just lost the game >=[

    Much love. :D

  • Figured out how to cheat the hot and cold game with save states. Dig once, which starts the random location algorithm, then immediately save. Dig around to find a spot with an item, then reload that state and immediately go right to that spot to dig. Once you get it (in less than 5 seconds) then dig once to restart the location algorithm and save state again, and repeat the whole process. You have to dig once before saving or else the game won't have a spot picked out yet for that round.

  • will you be killing that boss that starts with an o that lives in the sky if you know what i mean

  • HC there's one more Blue Magic ability you can get in that area called " Pumpkin Drop" I can't really remember from what. They looked like fireballs.

  • i just

  • Ah, man... HCBailly is the best Let's Play'er. I finished watching the Chrono Cross playthrough just not too long ago, and I looked at your other recent videos, and now a Final Fantasy IX playthrough! So much win.

  • Chocobo's Hot And Cold is probably my favorite mini-game in the entire series. And I love the treasure-hunting quest. Even though I've never completed it. I generally run out of gysahl greens at the start of the second disk, and by the time I get another chance to go on the hunt, I've forgotten all about it.

I also think that the chocobos in this installment are the cutest in the entire (main) series.

  • Ah, Angel's Snack. One of the hardest abilities to get, and yet actually kinda crap :P Correct me if I'm wrong, but don't you need at least one Remedy per party member or else it does nothing?

  • Oh. I just LOVE this game! I especially love the end of the sidequest.... :)

  • Much better chocobo minigame than FFVIII.

  • Best sidequest ever.

  • i cant get a single piece of chocograph, most of the time i cant get a single treasure within the time limit.

  • Ok this chocobo hot and cold quest is driving me up the wall.

I've being doing it for over a hour and I only found a single chocograph but that's not really what's pissing me off so much its when the chocobo gives you the hint your very close but find nothing like how much freaking accuracy do you need here like come on this is ridiculous what do I need here a freaking radar?

Anyways pardon my rant HC its just something that always drove me bonkers in a RPG and sadly FF9 got it too.

  • HC, just in case you don't know, if you equip 2 pieces of equipment that both teach the same ability, you actually learn the ability double as fast.

  • Watching hot and cold sooooo makes me wanna play the game again!!

  • "Come on Zidane make it, *random battle music*, GAAAAAAAAAAAME!!!!!"

    hahahahh

  • Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't the Beak LVL increase digging speed after a while?

  • How many FF games is Vivi from? He looked familair in KH for me :).

  • @evilsoshi Just this one, but he is in KH2.

  • Hah, still getting encounters one step before the entrances. That's one thing I like about Chrono and FF12's lack of random encounters.

Chocobo and Moogle in the same area? Kawaii mascot overload.

That Choco sidequest does look fun.

  • FF9 was propably the best of PS1 Final Fantasies.

  • Learning from the Dragon is dangerous, but it's even more dangerous to learn Limit Glove, imo.

  • your the best!

  • You can also dig up any of the female-only 'band' accessories. They're *really* rare though, and it's quite possible to go for the entire game without finding one in CH&C.

  • overworld theme is great in this

  • I missed a couple videos...WHY DOES QUINA ATTACK WITH KITCHEN STUFF?

  • @Flamester013 Cause she's the cook

  • @Flamester013 becuase he ate ur mom.

  • @evilsoshi I have no mom.

  • @Flamester013 Right you have two dads hahaha.

  • @evilsoshi No..Both of my parents are dead.

  • @evilsoshi aaakkkwwwaaarrrddd....

  • @Flamester013 Because Quina is awesome.

  • @Flamester013 tis a weapon that Quina's clan attacks with

  • @Flamester013 because her clan are chefs lol and she/he has a big mouth so she needs a big fork simples lol

  • @Flamester013

    Cause she/he eats monsters.

  • @Flamester013 the qu clan are gourmands, they literally only care about eating. i think with that you can put 2+2 together to why their weapons are forks

  • alright,thanks for replying :)

  • How did you get the "Stone With Patterns" on your first dig? On all my playthroughs, it took me a few tries and I thought it was impossible. Either you're lucky or I'm terrible at this minigame. LOL

  • I like the chocobo music from this game. I like the beat but I'm not quite sure y.

  • HCBailly, quick question. Does the "Chocograph Piece" counts towards the total of the 9 Chocograph cause if it doesn't I'm gonna have to go look for 1 more chocograph and I would prefer not to do that.

  • @RubyEmblem No, the piece does not count towards the total 9. The moogle will tell you when you can't find anything else.

  • @HCBailly Nuts, well thanks for replying I'm gonna go look for the last one now. Hopefully it won't take too many tries to find the last one. Wish me luck =)

  • When I first was there in the swamp, I didn't even have a gold frog to NOT catch. Meaning there was no gold frog there to begin with.

  • Someone might have mentioned this before, but on the chocograph menu, if you hit the select button, you get speical moogle commentary (like with most items). For the chocograph search, if you aren't using a guide, they can a HUGE difference in how long you end up looking.

  • I never really had any way to test this, but the hunch I had about the Golden Frog was that it counted as either a male or female, because it doesn't have an assigned gender. So you could just leave one adult frog and the golden one. I didn't get too into this minigame though.

  • Horray, the Chocobo Minigame! It's like 1 million times better than the one in VIII (even if I'm sometimes stuck trying to find the exact right spot wasting 20sec or so. Also, for some reason my emulator sometimees screws around while riding the Chocobo... lost a lot of points when it first happened u.u)

Anyway, looking forward to more on Monday! (I guess you will get the other Blu Magic spells then, so no need to remind you, HC)

  • Oh, are you going to be demonstrating the Chocobo sequence breaking?

  • Are you serious it only takes you a half hour to an hour? I've been doing it for 2 hours and only have 6. I HATE Choco Hot and Cold =\

  • At this point you can also learn Limit Glove from those Plant enemies. Err, by the Chocabo Forest I mean. Quite a handy move if I do say so myself. :]

  • damn....is it really that necessary not to catch the golden frog?? Because I have :( please respond....

  • @89FuManchu

Having the golden frog there apparently increases the rate of how fast they reproduce themselves, but you don't need it.

  • @89FuManchu It's not necessary, per say, it just really helps according to the information on game FAQs

  • @89FuManchu I did all my test runs catching the Golden Frogs and still easily managed to catch 99 by the end of the game. It's not necessary at all. I'm simply doing it here to see for myself how much of a difference it really makes. In my past experience, I didn't see enough of a difference to warrant not catching the extra frog.

  • @89FuManchu Also, the golden frog respawns so no worries.

  • @89FuManchu I had that happen to me, too. Thankfully I saved just before entering the swamp. When I reloaded, it was there. Randomness.

  • i like how you get blue magic in tactics

  • Hey HC how long does it usually take for the video to upload(for me it takes 2hours) so I want to see if theres something wrong with my computer cause its brand new

  • @GreatMalboro

Nothing wrong with it. I'll say that much. It's either YouTube or your Internet connection that is limiting the upload speed. Most likely the first.

  • @Werewolf211 I got it down to a half hour after compressing it a couple of times

  • @GreatMalboro

Yeah, that helps a lot! The videos you got have great quality either way, so I don't think you really lost anything by compressing them.

  • I love this part of the game; I feel this is when it really starts.

One of the things I love about this game is the return to characters having a specific class; something that had been missing ever since FF4. Don't get me wrong; I loved the materia system in 7, but it's really nice to go old school and have certain people fill certain roles.

  • No katy perry reference?

  • EAT HIM!!!! GAAAME count:2, Say do Ironites count towards Freya's dragon killing count or is it too small to be considered a dragon?

  • @McGack1 Well the bestiary lists it as a dragon/flying monster, so I'd say it counts. And technically, Freya doesn't even have to be in your party for that count to go up, let alone make the finishing blow.

  • This is the most fun mini game in all the FFs IMO!

  • man ur voice freaked me out coz i was putting my head phones on the loudest

i thought i was gonna die Xb

  • I really love hot&cold

  • why dont you equip the glass buckle?its double points to antibody.... because you have glass armlet....

  • This Final Fantasy game is the only to my knowledge to offer such extreme sequence breaking capabilities. The chocobo is so useful in this game it can break time & space.

  • afk gotta get some coffee

I really liked the chocobo game. It was really the most funny thing in this game. Could play it for hours. That little treasure hunt is awesome aswell

  • soul blade inflicts darkness not silence

  • @cvbfgt1231 Actually depending on what thief sword your using it inflicts different status effects

  • This is among my favorite parts of the game, when you start to play chocobo hot and cold, catch frogs and hunt monsters for blue magic. Also, it's a nice challenge to manage without a white mage for a while.

  • @amarillo315 awesome,thanks

  • 10:36 I must say that music (aka the Sword Duel music) is probably my favourite so far. I miss Uematsu, luckily, I have Noriyuki Iwadare to help fill the void with the Lunar and Grandia games.

  • lol how many times can you say Game!!!!! in 1 episode?

  • I love Chocobo Hot and Cold! Besides the seeming endless supply of healing items, you can also get gil, which makes the 60g per game nonexistant. In another section of the world, I've even dug up 5k gil and 10k gil! No more item or money woes!

  • how dare you bad mouth chrono trigger, even if its the load times (in all fairness, im just joking). (keep of a great work).

  • Plus Icy-Cold is a very fun game, with such a good theme!

  • I think Chocobo Hot and Cold ranks up there with Blitzball from FFX as the two best minigames in FF history

  • I love the Chocobo Forest music! It's like Dali, but more relaxing than sweet. (Awww... Dali's so sweet with it's evil mage trade and child labor taverns, nasty snot nosed...!)

  • "Hidden treasure" Thats that the best part! Vivi ftw!

  • "Gaaaaaaaaaaaaame!" I missed that! XD

  • So THAT's where you get the moccha coffee..

  • @Skyshattered

Also HC, you can get a little extra hint for the chocographs by pessing the select button in the chocograph menu.

This, is my favourtie mini game of all time in the Ff series. The rewards are great and the game is fun.

  • "I don't know why the load times on this one are so bad."

Did you ever notice that the PlayStation reads games slooooooooowly? Or, at least, the halfway-dead one that I own? (or it could be your computer's DVD drive becoming self-aware and deciding to be an ass and read discs slowly during you recording, but whatever. As you said, it isn't the end of the world. Or Chrono Trigger PSX.)

  • "Don't want to spend an hour on the sidequest here! *laugh*"

Oh God it's so true xD But well worth it at least =)

  • Stealing Enemy, I never liked those kind of enemies... They steal our Items, Gold and then they quickly run away... So you lose stuffs AND don't get their EXP/gold...

hehe... Eating a Dragon WHOLE... Quina really has a blackhole in his stomach ;) He must be banned from every known eating contests ! :D

I remember the Icy/Hot game, now... but I never was very lucky in them... But they were kinda ok/fun times...

  • @Yenastuundepaspris55 Quina makes yoshi, kirby, and scooby doo look wimpy with his mad eating skills lol

  • the chocograph reminds me of treause charts in Legend of Zelda Wind Waker

  • I love Hot and Cold. Only problem is that it takes fricking forever to dig out those Chocographs.

  • I've been meaning to ask, HCBailly, where did that "It will ki~ll you~" thing come from?

  • @chipputer To my knowledge, I made it up, unless it's a reference to something that I'm subconsciously blocking out of my memory. I think I've said it a couple times before, but it really didn't catch on until my Dragon Warrior LP.

  • @HCBailly I see. I've just been hearing it so much in your recent videos that I was wondering. Thanks for the answer!

  • @HCBailly Best of luck with your RL issue HC, I wish you nothing but pure happiness. In fact, if you combined the happiness you have given to thousands, you could probably live in complete ecstacy for the rest of your life.

  • But, HCBaily, shouldn't you learn "Soul Blade" off of the Ogre Blade in order to inflict silence on a certain royalty-hating boss in disk 2? Or is there enough time to learn "What's that?!" and "Soul Blade" before hand?

  • @kefka303 I think I should be able to learn both beforehand. In either case, while Soul Blade can be slightly useful, I don't find it to be worth grinding for.

  • 13:31 Also pressing the select button here will give you another hint on the treasure's location. Except for the first one, then it just says that you're stupid or hopeless or something if you can't find it.

Moogle tooltips rock! Or better yet, Kupo tips, that's a catchy name.

  • This looks like another spot in the game where you can just race straight ahead to proceed with the plot if you want to..or, do lots of side quests/mini games. Some games load up all the sidequests at a certain point in the plot (usually fairly close to the climax) but so far here, it seems balanced with the main flow of gameplay.

What I'm most surprised about is that Freya is my favorite character so far..and it's not even close. Dignity, class..rocks the red mage threads..

  • @blackswan707 Yeah, the pacing of the game is most excellent.

  • Wark? Kweh! Which do you prefer Kupo?

  • Is the chocobo yours now or will you have to give him back?

  • @KentoKaima Once you get Choco, he's yours, but you have to use Gysahl Greens to call him if he's not nearby. Or you can go pick him up where you last left him.

  • You can really abuse save states while playing Choco Hot and Cold. Dig until you get the Kweeeeh!?, save state, and if you don't find the treasure within a second or two, just reload the save state until you find a Chocograph within a second or two from the save state.

  • It's not every day that you eat a live dragon in one gulp.

  • Why didn't you just grab Streamside? Lol.

And, Ironites were my grinding mob for this area. I'd use the full restore and stay in proximity to the gate to grab as much AP for the skills.

  • @Elban19 He was grabbing up all the chocographs first.

  • Uhh. stupid question, does the enemies level up with you in this game like they did in FF8, I want to know because I haven't played this game.

  • @Sendosune Nope, they stay the same level.

  • They didn't name it Boco because Boco is another chocobo in this game.

  • I can't believe he ate the whole thing....

  • yeah getting those blue magic spells can be a little rough sometimes. but some of them are definitely worth it.

hey, does that aqua breathe spell work for anyone? i try using it but it keeps on "missing" idk why

  • @imnotmexican1987 There is a list on Gamefaqs about Blue Magic. For some stupid reason, Aqua Breath deals %-Damage and tends to miss alot. I think it always misses on Bosses.

  • They used the Chocobo hot and cold game in Final Fantasy 11. It's... Horrible, because of the size of most of the areas you can dig in..

  • It was this minigame that I first saw FF9, unfortunatly my cousin was obessed by it and I idn't see much else of the game.

  • the other thing I dont like about this game is how the battle environment looks

1:20 -2:25 ... its just looks so empty.

(not dissing, overall I love ff9)

  • You can also get an extra hint at the chocograph menu by using the select button.

  • God, Vamo alla Flamenco is one of the best songs Uematsu ever wrote. You don't even notice spending hours upon hours playing Hot n Cold with that song playing.

  • @MrSteveHazzard So true!

  • Kweh. Kweh. Kweh. Kweh..........

  • An interesting side quest that you can do with the chocobo is to go to every beach in the game and press the Circle Button or what ever controller you have where that button should be. Every time you do that at a beach you will hear a sound once you do that at ever beach you can heal yourself at beach.

  • @KosmicD You can't do that until the end of the game and you have to be told in the game about it before you can actually start it.

  • @KosmicD I believe that sidequest starts after u have dug up all chocographs and to start it you have to speak to a certain 'large' chocobo if you know what i mean

  • after you dig something up, i find it a good idea to dig in the exact same spot. some times the next treasure is right there, quick bonus points

  • Finaly another GAAAAAME!!, I was hitting the brunt of my withdrawal symptoms.

  • Awsome video

  • I think that chocobo in Black Mage Forest is already named after Boco.

  • Quina's Blue Magic is amazing. :D. Actually, all Blue Magics are :D.

  • Comment removed

  • Are you going to be learning limit glove and showing us how to take down a Grand Dragon above Gizamaluke's before heading the Burmecia?

Would be a neat addition to the LP.

  • It took me an hour to find the first Chocograph! After 2 hours of not finding anything (I really suck at this mini game or it hates me) I just gave up. I figure I'll try again later on Disc 3.

  • 4X cut + ultima weapon = Easy choocbo catch in FFVII

  • This is my favorite FF Chocobo sidequest. More because of the music, Vamo' Alla Flamenco!

  • HCbailly did you, or did you not get the big guard blue magic spell yet? :S Wonder why...

  • the choco mini game was always fun but man is it repetitive but like you said it's worth it.

  • Yep...your like me in this game HC...now you're taking a dramatic slow down in your game play just to complete some side quests and get things...When Quina is in the party and you're near a Chocobo Forest, why not kill some time...catch frogs, get treasure, get blue magic...man, you really can kill some time here...and at the same time, have fun...

  • Chrono Trigger had long loading times? hmmm... Maybe on PSX

  • @MWaser No Chrono Cross did.

  • @Tovath Hes talking about CT on the PS1, not chrono cross.

  • GAME!!! cracks me up every time.

  • half hour to an hour? I think it took me way longer

  • @wafflethug I'm usually able to get a Chocograph every 5 minutes, on average. Of course, I'll sometimes go 10-15 minutes without one, then find 3-4 in consecutive games.

  • if you ever do a fainlf anatsy 10 lp will you be doing the international version or whatever version has penance

  • @someone0209 I have no knowledge of that version. Wouldn't I need to mod my PS2 to play that?

  • @HCBailly i'm not really sure but hey i'm sure all the fans (including myslef) would love to see you beat the crap out of penance one day
