Family dollar in North, SC needs to be SHUTT THE FUCK DOWN!!! all the managers and assistant managers do is smoke crack, weed, SMOKE Ciggarettes, all day ON THE F..... CLOCK and harrass customers in the store with white hatred racism. They talk to their boyfriends outside, and in the store all day while watching others drive up and down the street. IF THE MANAGER AND CASHIERS ARE ALWAYS OUTSIDE...THEN WHO'S WORKING IN THE FUCKING STORE?? disgusted at North, SC family dollar need NEW STAFF.
I work there, You should see the dumpster some nights. I've sat and destroyed food that was "near" being out of date. slashed up clothes and even a few shoes, but not many, we sell to much. If a thing rings up for a penny, we have to destory it. I've never actually seen something shipped back to a company that has been marked $.01, ever. i've seen recalled items shipped back to be replaced. and i've seen computer parts shipped back, never anything that rings up for a penny.
i used to manage for family dollar, it's not the govt... family dollar gets rid of products that dont sell in an allotted time. They have their store managers destroy the shoes because if they donated them to a local charity then that charity wouldnt be buying the shoes they needed.
@bseven54 actually not far from the truth, much of the products family dollar sells are from china. and if you will watch their bulletin board or windows, you'll recalls on products that contain lead paint on a regular basis.
Ha, my DM and GM would fire my entire crew for not destroying the products or trashing them. I know that with some of the toys that there is an issue with paints, such as lead in some of the ones made in china, but anytime my manager sees something that we can donate that has no recall on it. Well let's just say that we do what we can for our community.
I'd also like to add that whenever we had to remove things, we were told to put them in the dumpster. We weren't allowed to donate or keep them. If we were caught taking them, we'd lose our job. Better in the garbage? Seriously?
Ive worked for the company for over 2 years and still work for them. They do nothing but treat their team members very well as well as treating their customers very well and offer great prices on big name brand products. The company has proven to be very successful especially through the economic disaster America has been going through. Im proud to be apart of this company
No actually I dont. I have never missed a day of work since ive been with the company, i obey orders, i have a positive attitude. Doing those things can make you feel like you are on top. Not doing those things will get you held accountable and make you feel like the company is against you
I have to say, however, that you're assuming that I was a bad worker. I wasn't a bad worker, in fact I was exceptional. I also came to work every day, worked my tail off, I was polite to customers (put up with a lot of crap from them, too... had things thrown at me, and some guy even threatened to cut off his nose). I can't count how many nights I punched out and stayed just to make sure the place was clean or that inventory was done. They still treated me like shit.
@Diezelraccoon that is a lie, family dollar has numerous law suits right now for the horrible way they treat their employee's
family dollar has also paid out millions in court settlements for breaking laws concerning pay, but only after they were summoned to appear in court and lost their case.
I work for family dollar in Springhill Louisiana. We've had to destroy several items that are brand new because of federal regulations. Any items that scan for 2 cents are suppose to be destroyed. I myself don't understand this. Items that ring up for 1 cent can't be sold either so they have to be destroyed. I've worked for Family Dollar for over a year and a half and I'm telling you, that company is stupid :).
@conjon11 nothing was wrong with them, they didnt sell as fast as family dollar would like so they destroyed them to make room for another product that might sell better and make them more money.
they clearance them, then eventually they drop them to a penny so they can destroy them and get a tax write off.
if they donated the shoes to a charity they still would have gotten a tax write off.
but then the people they donated them to wouldnt be spending money on shoes. FAMILY DOLLAR IS GREEDY
I worked for family dollar for almost 3 years and infact was the manager of this very store in south end shopping center in hagerstown. The truth is that the rep on the phone lied. In my entire time with the company we were never told to send any product back for any reason, but were often told to destroy it and infact when an item is set to be destroyed it will come up in the register if scanned as "Do Not Sell". Keep in mind who you are giving your money to when you shop at these stores.
@robbienewcome you are absolutely right!!! in the two years that i managed for family dollar they never asked me to send any product back. However the district manager did sleep with a store manager, and falsified managers assesment tests and she is still working there.
another district manager had an employee arrested because the bank teller called and told him the deposit wasnt in the drop box, only to find it later....after the employee was arrested and fired.
Thanks, Mike! I heard Europe had a similar law like CPSIA. What is it called and have you seen this kind of destruction of perfectly good items in the UK?
You're welcome :) We have similar laws generally that have come about since our involvement with the EEC (Europe) some very petty, but as yet not affecting the Industries such as crafts etc like the US one is!
As for waste, yup I've seen much, particularly in connection with Companies contract agreements where the contractor is told to write-off/destroy perfectly good products.
I could write you a blog addition some time on that :)

Family Dollar is one of the most stingy companies in America. I worked as an A.M. for them for a year. It was horrible.

OMG - SHOES FOR GODS SAKE!!!
This is absolutely crazy, the new consumer act is too blanket and sense sense has gone out of the door!
These items and others like them could have been called into a central depot, checked out and sent to African Charities or similar.
Shame on the U.S Government
