I love my african american hair and im mixed with puerto rican but im only half black but i have 100% kinky hair. Im 13 and never had a perm and i love my hair.
Thank you for this message and for your channel. I LOVE your beautiful hair! I just wish people would also recognize that not only brown girls have 4c natural hair. I'm high yellow with very tight coiled African hair. I'm so happy I found someone with hair similar to mine so that I can get good advice on how to manage and style it.
@AvonMommyTSW Hey hun, I only said brown just so I didn't say black women (even though I said black women in the video) LOL... I just feel we are all shades of brown from light to dark but I don't know any black ppl. I'm glad you will be able to use my videos :0)
@AvonMommyTSW Everytime I see a sister with natural hair I compliment her on how nice her hair looks. I feel that if all black men who admire sisters with natural hair would do this one thing it would eliminate the thought that men may be ignoring them because of their natural hair. In most cases that is a assumption not fact. The day WILL come when the majority of our sisters will be natural the website ebonyheart2heart in their hair section lists all the chemicals and side effects! A MUST SEE
If you want to wear your hair naturally that's fine with me but it's annoying when black women say other black women perm their hair because they hate their natural hair. Everyone does something to their hair, whether it's dying it, cutting it, washing it or brushing it. There is absolutely nothing wrong with this and I have no problem perming my hair occasionally.
yes yes yes. i have been rough with my hair since the beginning. because that's what i was taught. get it done and over with but that myth is so far from the truth. i just learned to be extremely gentle with me and my daughters natural beautiful hair. i also learned that if it hurts as in managing it, then i need to do something different, like add water. it shouldn't hurt cause our hair is fragile and the better you take care of it with care, the longer it grows.....
i notice your title has brown, not black or african american. i believe people of colors here in the u.s. have conflict because we are our own people now. i am male, i love the color of my skin. which is brown. i love myself and accept how i was made. i respect and love our women, because without her we are not! out of this love for my Creator, myself, my people...we now have a name to call ourself for the proud people of our kind! Cocoaian- a one tounge people from light skin to dark!
Funny...I agree with afromojo1. About 10 years ago I started noticing LOTS of ads on tv of black woman with natural hair. I thought to myself "How refreshing, black women not trying to look like white women".!!!
You're Beautiful chery818 I wish more Black women felt the same way you do about this. I hate to see women straitening their hair and putting in extensions and all that crap. It's like their trying to be someone their not. It's sad really, a Black woman's afro is her crown. The only thing worse is those skin lightening creams you can find in beauty salons world wide.
Are you seriously that ignorant? Did you listen to what I said in the video... obviously not! I suggest you grow up and stop pretending its not what it really and clearly is. Scroll down and read the comment that a white woman left on this video... she gets it, guess you don't SMH LOL
@fellisco86 <--Ignorant. Dying your hair black does not represent a portrayal of "black pple." Asian persons, for the most part, have black hair as well. It is all about the texture and form!
As a Polynesian woman I am familiar with the notion of straight hair as the epitome of beauty. However, straight hair is only a variation of beauty - wavy, long, thick, thin, curly, kinky, the list goes on. One's beauty does not depend on their natural hair but on their acceptance and love for one's self
I wish more girls would go natural with their hair. I have a friend who has always let her hair just go kinky, and she looks absolutely adorable.
Now I'm a white girl, but I have thought for a long time that my hair was horrible. I didn't think I could go out without straightening it, but now, I appreciate my fluffy and curly hair.

Thank you for your response. I think it is very hard for black parents to instill self esteem in their black daughters, particularly loving their natural black hair, when we are inundated with pictures, images, commercials...even on BET, where the European image of beauty is all over. I cringe every time I see Beyonce and that blond weave and other black women with weaves. Bad message to little black girls. In any event, I hope the trend of promoting black natural hair continues.
Wow, there is so much anger concerning natural hair. I mean jeez its not that serious. There are so many other problems that we could focus on as black people to tell someone they hate themselves because they have straight hair is extreme. I am all for natural hair but I don't think that you can tell what someone feels inside by how they wear their hair. Its just to simplistic I think.
In response to a comment I saw below. White women can't even live up to the "European" standard of beauty. Eating disorder, getting plastic surgery younger and younger, these are the symptoms of them trying to live up to that impossible standard. And it's not only black women, it is all women and we need to realize that. It effects all of us.

It is untrue certainly, there is no way to assess if a person has self hate because they relax their har.
THEY made us pick cotton so that we would hate our hair. THEN since the late 70's they made blackwomen wear straight hair to enforce the spell of self hate. THE word PERM is short for PERMANENT, which means they never intended for blackwomen to be natural and the SELFHATE would be PERMANENT,and LAST FOREVER.

Hey afromojo1, haven't you heard Black Entertainment Television is no longer owned by Black people. Therefore, there is little incentive for the owners to promote positive images of us all natural- lol.
I live in Minneapolis and I gotta say I almost got the desire to go natural from seeing so many white kids with dreads, lol. Nice video! Your hair looks exactly like mine and I just took down my twists <3
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
that's you girl. Grow up. Many white girls colour there hair, straighten there hair but doesn't mean they hate their hair. You can not wear afro all da time
I love how black women always, instead of taking ownership for their own image issues, they gotta put in the "white women do it too" excuse. It's getting really old and really tired ladies...just stop it.
Oh please. I don't think that's what they do. I think the european standard of beauty is so strong in the media that they can't help but be affected by it. That's why a lot of black people question whether or not it's a good idea to go natural in corporate america.
But that is why black women ignore their own issues. If we're talking about BLACK women's image issues, then why do they have to point the finger at white women like we're in second grade, using the "they do it too" excuse. Take accountability for your own problems instead of playing the vicitm and putting everyone else in it. We're not inslaved anymore, we have freedom. How many more decades are we going to keep playing the violin, and just accept ourselves regardless of opposition from others?
No offense, I don't think black people are "playing a violin". I think a lot of the things that have been instilled into black people won't disappear overnight, because they weren't learned overnight.
I know it won't be learned overnight, but it's been over 6 DECADES! How many nights will it take? I understand our history with hair, I'm African American, I know that. But for God sakes, are we as a people gonna be crippled for all eternity, or are we going to stand up and say we're beautiful, and wear our own hair with pride? We can't keep using the oppression excuse for all eternity. It makes us look as if we're continually playing the violin.
I guess it may take a while. I suppose change may come through individuals like you who lead by example. Maybe if enough of us do as you stated we can make a good lasting impression on the next generation.
Story of my life...lol.. Ever since I did my BC, everybody has been lookin at me like I'm some sort of alien.. Yeah, theres a few people who support me but most folk are askin me questions like "what made u cut all of your pretty hair off?" and "why you wanna be nappy" OMG, its so frustrating.. Thats why I love our YOUTUBE natural hair community.. This is the only guaranteed place we'll get support and love... Thanks Chery818
You are sooo very welcome darling, I love the natural hair community as well, I've gotten some pretty cool hair styles from it, Yay!!!!! Take Care :0)
whoo preach girl lol but seriously thats is true keep it real black women we are all beautiful completely natrual (and that does include hair color lls) and the hair is more healthy that way anyway
the reason why many white people seem to accept our hair now is only because it was not their generation that did the brainwashing, it was their 4fathers but we on the otherside, have accepted the brainwashing and passed it down from generation to generation. I believe now that the fact that alot of us have seen the light make me feel that the generation coming behind us have even a better chance to celebrate their blackness and not try to resist it through the perm
Your right I am in the process of transitioning now. I have been wanting to go natural for a while now but sadly to say I had no idea how to style my natural hair.
I love this video. we black women are being brained washed, especially those in the corprate world. when they realize our hair is beautiful. i dont think i have ever seen someone with naturally straight hair try to make it kinky like mine. LOVE YOURSELF SISTERS!!!
We luv natural hair. All black men do. If they say not they full of it. End of the day if they have a woman with fake or str8 hair they ask why she wears wigs or Y not leave your real hair out.. Tru talk
i agree im soo happy u said this it took me along time to relize this and now im going natural, but the sad thing is my little sister who is 2 LOVES her natural hair but my grandma and aunt will say comments on how her head is "nappy" or they try to discourage me
So glad you got the message. As for your grandma and aunt I think that's how most of the older generation thinks, the damage has been done. Keep on your journey and try to be forgiving for their comments, :0)
you are so right! as a brown woman myself, i feel like my hair isn't good enough. when i see other girls with long silky hair, it makes me feel low. but maybe my natural lochs could actually look better than all the hairspray and weaves i put in my hair, ahah. thank you for being so confident <3.
Trust, do not feel that way! That is exactly what they would like us to feel. If you decide to grow your hair out, there are countless video tutorials on hairstyles that you can try. I'm sure it will look good on you, try it and see!
lol, your welcome! we asblack women have a undiniable beauty. a beauty so awe inspirering that for hundreads of years insecure people have tried to make us feel ugly by making us forget our hair, skin and features are beautiful and desireble. i feel that it is my purpose on this earth to remind us of our beauty. i be damned if im going to allow some one to tell me that my god given hair is anything but unpleasant. peace!
You are right. I feel so ugly all of the time because I know what I really look like under my extensions. Sometimes I want to take them off but im not confident like you are. You are really pretty and I wish my idea of myself would change. Thank you for posting this. It makes me want to accept myself for the way I was made.

Ooh child, trust you are not ugly first of all. I've been seeing so many naturalista's out there lately, join in the fun. There are so many styles to do with it, its so versatile, I hope you can let go of the negative self image and embrace the beautiful you :0)
I agree with chery818, I just have to put my 2 cent in. Embrace who you are sis! There is much support here on YouTube, you will be happy and you will not want to ever go back!!! We've ALL been called ugly, people are ignorant...variety is the spice of life...love you!
you are one step above many sisters by admitting that devilish voice sitting on your right shoulder "lye-ing" to you. Pay attention to these commercials.. now days, there are more black natural women selling products.
ps. my white friends compliment me a whole lot more when my hair is natural and without extensions.
Haha That reminds me...back when I used to wear beaded braidsin middle school (when it wasn't pressed/permed) my white friends couldn't enough of my hair. lol One girl (Kelly) even told me she was jealous of my hair texture and said she wished she could do things with her hair like I could. I was a little shocked/surprised because I'd never thought of it like that. A few days later, she came in with her hair braided too! I started a trend lol xD
that was inspiring but i kno if it wasnt for the internet and a tradition of passing on the art of braiding... most ppl wouldnt automatically kno how to manage black hair. Not enough ppl wear their hair puffed out in a nice natural fro for it2 seem cool. I thnk more ppl should go all out kinky bcuz sometimes it takes one confident beautiful blk woman to start a chain reaction. hope this video will bring someone the confidence to go natural and to be less self conscious of their god given hair...
YES, SIS!!!!! YES! Excellent video and excellent message, it would be amazing if some of the chemically-treated women would see this vid and pay attention to it. Hopefully it would provoke some introspection.
Your hair is beautiful! Black natural hair is beautiful! People will love it people will hate it, but who cares. Just like some of us don't like straight hair because that is plain. LOVING MY NAPPY/KINKY/COILY HAIR AND SO DOES MY MAN! TO all of you with it the ignorant comments your the stupid ni**ers!
I agree with you. The natural kinky hair is awesome. I don't know who though it was bad... And using chemicals is never a good idea, they fuck up your hair BADLY.
That completely damages the hair. Sorry, but I've seen so many black girls with damage hair and they look fucked up. That's why they cover up their hair with fake weve, house hair I might add.
My hair was completely damage, and it always was dry and dull. Fuck the relaxer!!! Y'all black women need to lay off on the extension. I had an extension, and it broke my hair once they cut off the sew out of the extension.

Black women have to realize by now how damage their hair has become, this is why they look unto fake hair.
Back when I was 9, I first had my hair relax, and my hair turn out goregous like Caucasian hair. My hair was really long that it reached almost to my ass crack. Until my hair grew back, I needed a relaxer again. This time it's harder because my mom potted the hair growth when it was really dry, so when it's time to wash off the relaxer, I find out how much hair I lost by my mom excessively pulling the kinks out of my scalp.

black people have ugly hair thats a fact. There are no categories of hair. It's black nappy, ugly and for some reason stinky. Naturally there is nothing black people can do to their hair without modern products developed mostly for European hair types. European hair is different and perfect hair can be blond red brown black and with mixes in between, hair can be straight, curly or wavy. Just like the eyes blue gray hazel green brown. and in majority all black people have ugly brown eyes.
Another faceless person, you have such negative comments to say about black people but yet your on youtube watching their faces, and you even take time out to write a paragraph on their video. You make a whole lot of sense. Ass Wipe!
Something I find sexy is a "buzz-cut" on a black woman-that is provided she's not much overweight. Keeps the fuss to a minimum. Personal opinion, I suppose.
thnx i luv 2 here stuff like this because im going natural and ive been getting perms for years but now im takeing charge of my hair. thnx 2 u hun keep it up!!
Well, I am making the decision to go natural, BUT I cant knock, weaves and other things. Even with natural hair, you need something on it, to keep it from being dry and it can get damaged like that...
Good idea! My Niece got a stratin iron and leaves it on somtimes. Not only high electric bill but also fire hazard! Natural always best.If someone dont like it they dont have to look!
i would love to have my natrual hair all the time but it just wont grow so i put on weaves and braid to change my hair style often but if you look at my channel you will see my background picture thats my natrual hair and i think thant im beautiful with it..even thouhg i often have bad hair days becauce i cant do nothing with it..
I would like to address all of the women on here. Chemically altering your hair is definitely your perogative. I personally like so many others are realizing to love our hair no matter the texture. She's just simply voicing her opinions. I have natural waist length hair (texture 4a/no locs or dreads) starting in 1995 to now. So you see, it is possible to grow natural black hair very long. It just takes patients and understanding the right products for your type of hair texture. Good Luck Ladies!
I love the fact that you want to wear a t-shirt, that is hilarious. I want to see your hair, I hope my hair gets to that length. I have a lot of hair already but damn, down to your waist, that's awesome. And you are soooo right about Patience, I have those days, LOL, I have those days.
I actually like black hair better than white people hair. our hair naturally over curls and we can do so many things with it. i say if you want to be natural be natural. if you want to go strait, go strait. there is no shame in African hair at all. sometimes I even sport afro puffs and everybody thinks its cute

why bring up fairskin, alot of us have nappy hair, and the media even praises dark skin women that have straight hair (Naomi cambel) so no need to mention fairskin all the time ...damn
Loved your msg...so many of "us" need to hear it. I'm transitioning right now and am loving it more and more. I haven't put heat or chemicals in my hair for nearly 4 months and it's growing like crazy. I'm proud of the hair God gave me and I'm not going to mimick another culture through chemicals anymore.
Oh yeah, screw the haters. If you wanna script out your vids then that's your business. Do your thing!
I agree with you. I have recently made the decision to go back to natural hair, and since I now know the proper products to use for black hair, it is growing much faster than before, and my hair has always grown fast. I was speaking with my mother about natural hair the other day. It is interesting that we never question tradition. Why is it understood that at a certain age you are expected to perm your hair? Why? Our hair IS manageable, beautiful, and unique! No need for relaxers.
I love that "I'm not going to mimick another culture through chemicals anymore" I've been natural for 13 years and you make me want to put that on a t-shirt. Great Job!
I loved your post. My hair is not so lucky as to be totally "black." I have several different textures and I can do nothing with it. Part of it is curly and part of it is straght and part of it is wavy. It is a hot mess whenever I try anything except a ponytail. Do you have any suggestions? I would love to wear it out in a natural afro but it looks horrible because of the different textures.
WHO OR WHAT GUY GIVES A FUCK ABOUT KINKY/CURLY OR STRAIGHT HAIR?????. I myself have yet 2 met anyone yet. It's only nasty when it gets in your food,(like from the school-lunch-lady).
black indivduals should have the right to chose and be confident in the style they like.
a black woman who straightens her hair is just as black ,if we become stronger indivduals as humans it automatically helps strengthen social groups.so i agree with your stament on being proud of yourself, but on the othe hand black is black regardless of fashion ,in someways idologys like this can weaken a people
THEY BOTH INVOLVE ALTERING THE APPEARANCE AND TEXTURE OF AFRO HAIR TO LOOK STRAIGHT. PERMANENET OR TEMPORARY ITS THE SAME THING... STRIVING FOR STRAIGHT HAIR
Thank you for sharing this truthful message. Hair in its natural state is far healthier and easier to manage than processed hair, regardless of what many beauty product suppliers have told us. Thanks!
this is so true... i hate ppl who think u have to have straight hair to be pretty, becuz u dont , nappy hair is a blessing for more , can do so many things with it
ALL of my friends are permed...everyday they give me this bs about getting a perm cause your hair will be so long and all that crap...but hey...my hair maybe hard at some times and hey sometimes i wish i could just have "problem free" hair..but then i realize thats not me...i dont think my hair needs to be long and bone straight to prove that im as good as another black woman

it's hard for YOU to comb out b/c YOU don't know how to comb it properly. I can comb MY hair very easily. and no, i don't have "good hair".
and YOU think it looks better straight. that's not an OBJECTIVE FACT.

I love how black women always, instead of taking ownership for their own image issues, they gotta put in the "white women do it too" excuse. It's getting really old and really tired ladies...just stop it.
CuddlyBubbles1 2 years ago
Oh please. I don't think that's what they do. I think the european standard of beauty is so strong in the media that they can't help but be affected by it. That's why a lot of black people question whether or not it's a good idea to go natural in corporate america.
teeizhot 2 years ago
But that is why black women ignore their own issues. If we're talking about BLACK women's image issues, then why do they have to point the finger at white women like we're in second grade, using the "they do it too" excuse. Take accountability for your own problems instead of playing the vicitm and putting everyone else in it. We're not inslaved anymore, we have freedom. How many more decades are we going to keep playing the violin, and just accept ourselves regardless of opposition from others?
CuddlyBubbles1 2 years ago
No offense, I don't think black people are "playing a violin". I think a lot of the things that have been instilled into black people won't disappear overnight, because they weren't learned overnight.
teeizhot 2 years ago
I know it won't be learned overnight, but it's been over 6 DECADES! How many nights will it take? I understand our history with hair, I'm African American, I know that. But for God sakes, are we as a people gonna be crippled for all eternity, or are we going to stand up and say we're beautiful, and wear our own hair with pride? We can't keep using the oppression excuse for all eternity. It makes us look as if we're continually playing the violin.
CuddlyBubbles1 2 years ago 2

LadyFabulousity 2 years ago 3
the reason why many white people seem to accept our hair now is only because it was not their generation that did the brainwashing, it was their 4fathers but we on the otherside, have accepted the brainwashing and passed it down from generation to generation. I believe now that the fact that alot of us have seen the light make me feel that the generation coming behind us have even a better chance to celebrate their blackness and not try to resist it through the perm

Haha That reminds me...back when I used to wear beaded braidsin middle school (when it wasn't pressed/permed) my white friends couldn't enough of my hair. lol One girl (Kelly) even told me she was jealous of my hair texture and said she wished she could do things with her hair like I could.

Do your thing!
dreamichelle 3 years ago 2
I agree with you. I have recently made the decision to go back to natural hair, and since I now know the proper products to use for black hair, it is growing much faster than before, and my hair has always grown fast. I was speaking with my mother about natural hair the other day. It is interesting that we never question tradition. Why is it understood that at a certain age you are expected to perm your hair? Why? Our hair IS manageable, beautiful, and unique! No need for relaxers.

I loved your post. My hair is not so lucky as to be totally "black." I have several different textures and I can do nothing with it. Part of it is curly and part of it is straght and part of it is wavy. It is a hot mess whenever I try anything except a ponytail. Do you have any suggestions? I would love to wear it out in a natural afro but it looks horrible because of the different textures.

black indivduals should have the right to chose and be confident in the style they like.
a black woman who straightens her hair is just as black ,if we become stronger indivduals as humans it automatically helps strengthen social groups.so i agree with your stament on being proud of yourself, but on the othe hand black is black regardless of fashion ,in someways idologys like this can weaken a people

Okay, but using a flat iron to get a TEMPORARY straight look, and using a CHEMICAL to PERMANENTLY straighten your hair are too very different things.

THEY BOTH INVOLVE ALTERING THE APPEARANCE AND TEXTURE OF AFRO HAIR TO LOOK STRAIGHT. PERMANENET OR TEMPORARY ITS THE SAME THING... STRIVING FOR STRAIGHT HAIR
