@newfuckingwave It's on cassette tape and I have no way to copy it right now. Hoping I can afford to get it copied soon to digital format to preserve it.
@Duranie225 that is so fucking cool. the thing to do would be not only to copy it digitally, but to transfer it directly from cassette to reel-to-reel at high IPS. i would pay good money for the latter of the two (as i am an analogue guy), although i would love whatever i could get. were you actually there bootlegging it or what?
@newfuckingwave Oh Lord no! That thing was made in 1981 @ The Rum Runner in Birmingham, England, and I was in like 6th or 7th grade :) A friend bought the bootleg LP and I recorded the tape from that LP.
cannot get over how great they were from the get go (once the "original 5" got together.) really was a great mix of musicians/songwriters, more than half of whom had little to no musical training. loooove this!
Arguh, can I be 15 again and know what I know now?????? I would have found that hotel in Cleveland and met Andy. CRAP!!!! Andy is flippin amazing. hubba hubba
I was 13 at this time and i was influenced to start playing the drums by watching Roger. I watched Duran Duran's videos at first to teach myself. I love the way his Tama drums sound in these videos. A fat, rubbery sound! Thanks for these videos!
Same here...Roger was a huge influence on me as a young drummer. I was 13 and every week would ask my drum teacher how to play the beats Roger was doing. I brought in a cassette with "Girls on Film" and "Is Anyone Out There?" and said, "Teach me how the hell he plays this?"
I have this on vinyl somewhere in my room. I've had it since the 80s. I don't know if anyone remembers an 80s show called Off the Record because Duran Duran would perform their early 80s songs on there. I can't find anything about that show on the net.
I love Simons energy. I always remember he used to fall over on stage, but we soon realised it was part of the act cuz he did it 5 nights in a row and always during grls on film, ha ha, brilliant times, I wish I could relive them all again, sob :(
This song is amazing, I love their B sides as much as their album tracks. Another favourite for me is Like An Angel. Again, a b side. oh and I'm 16 :) and yes I adore Duran Duran!
@dizzymisslizzylane ,hi so now you are 18 ,still into duran duran after 2 years ?i am a fan since 1981 and its nice to see someone younger and knows more then just the sex symbols.i am into there music
Faster Than Light is the b-side of the Girls On Film 7" and 12" singles. Recorded at the same time as the first LP. To The Shore was on the UK version of the first LP. Awesome song!
Simon looks like a happy little kid up there! Great!

John Taylor is such a sick bassist!!! he is a bad ass.
mpc3po 3 years ago 4
Plus he plays the one of the best basses in the world, the Aria SB's (Cliff Burton, Billy Gould, Jack Bruce).

What album was "Faster than Light" featured on?
If you don't know about it already, the first album was re-released with a new track "The Shore" (previously unreleased) and is fuckin' awesome!

I think it's funny that you can hear John's bass clearly throughout, but you almost never see him on film. He was so shy of the spotlight back then!
