  • Haha, this is great. Bunch of nameless shithead internet users all heaping crap on Cronkite, when not a man of them could do his job.

  • what a load... Huntley and Brinkley had the natural "good night Chet; Good night David" as well as the ratings and 'Old Ironpants' wanted something to top them. That was never the way it was... that was 22 minutes of a world filled with events in need of covering. It was arrogant, assumptive and the country bought it.

  • @lesliekorshak Hey wait a minute bud!

  • Walter forgets the most famous network news sign-off line ever: "Goodnight Chet" "Goodnight David. And goodnight from NBC News".

BTW, Both Huntley and Brinkley HATED that line! Brinkley said "It makes us sound like a couple of fags!". They were told "Come up with something better." They couldn't.

  • He was the newscaster for an entire generation or 2 or 3

  • I miss Walter Cronkite he was a vary good news man

  • Walter Cronkite was a communist Walter Cronkite committed Treason against America! Walter Cronkite, was a very BAD MAN indeed!

  • My main man Walt!!! I remember as a kid growing up in South Memphis in the early 70's i would watch you, Roger Mudd, Eric Severeid, and Dan Rather. I will never forget you. RIP

  • Walter's voice at Bohemian Grove's "cremation of care" ritual, that's the way it really is!

  • Post the full four hours please.

  • one of the best jurnalest in the 20 century. we wiil miss you

  • Cronkite called for one world govt. and an end to U.S sovereignty in his 1996 book: "A Reporter's Life."

  • Rest in peace Mr Cronkite

You were the greatest journalist ever

This is the end of an era

  • It was an excellent, brilliant, and unforgettable decision to end each broadcast that way. I still LOVE to hear him say that! I too never missed the CBS Evening News during his prime.

  • It was a superb, brilliant, and unforgettable move on his part. I have always LOVED hearing him say that!

  • God Bless you Mr. Cronkite!

  • Thanks for the news Mr. Cronkite! Rest now!

  • Walter Cronkite is reporting the news in heaven tonight! God bless him and his family.

  • @smiday1097 That remains to be seen. What is certain is that there are a lot dead American soldiers in heaven because of pathological narcissists like him.

  • RIP, "Uncle Walter"

  • We have lost the greatest news man that has ever lived this evening and I would like to extend my deepest sorrow and condolences to the Cronkite's family. Walter Cronkite was and will always be the quintessential journalist that relayed the news as it should be and that is without bias and with outmost integrity. His manner of journalism and aura has been missed since 1980 as I never missed the nightly news at CBS. May you rest in peace.

  • As one who grew up in a family

    who watched Huntley-Brinkley,

    I hardly saw "Uncle Walter"

until college...even then, not all that much.

Nevertheless Walter's sincere reporting made me see right off, why people could trust him so much.

Upon seeing replays of the JFK bulletin and the Apollo 11 coverage, his respective reactions spoke volumes,

because they reflected most people's respective reactions to those events.

  • Good bye Walter. I miss being able to trust the news.

  • I remember as a young boy in the 60's watching Walter every night. Especially, his daily war dead count of the North Vietamese and American Soilder. Rest In Peace Mr. Cronkite.....

  • this newsman will miss that NEWSMAN .... thank you, sir ....

  • I was too young to remember Walter from anything else except a few videos he narrated about dinosaurs, but I know that I liked him. May he rest in peace.

  • God Bless you, Uncle Walter, and rest in peace. You established a legacy that no one newscaster has yet to meet, let alone top. You will be sorely missed. "And that's the way it is."

  • legend

  • RIP Walter Cronkite. When I was young I always got you mixed up with Captain Kangaroo.

  • You aren't alone ... I used to confuse them too.

  • God bless you Mr. Cronkite! You were a great man with a good heart! RIP

  • God rest his soul.

  • Today, the signoff would be "And that's what we want you to think."

  • (with a jedi wave of the hand)

  • Excellent comment..LOL

  • @mediamadman747 ...So simply put, yet SO true! What a decline "journalism" has witnessed in the 28 years since Mr. Cronkite signed off for the last time as anchor. "And that's what we want you to think." Very well said, MediaMadman...

  • I love this, they should have one with him again, speacially with his health scare. Thanks archive TV for this, time to watch. :)

  • Good Gracious!!!

What integrity they had compared with today!

They were concerned that they would mislead people by saying "That's the way it is". And they knew it wasn't right.

    News has changed.
