  • I saw him with Rainbow in 1980 on the Down to Earth Tour. He was a fantastic drummer!

  • Matched grip?

  • check my cover from this song =] ----------->youtube.com/watch?v=H5Jrmh2tsDI

  • even to this day there is no better drummer than you cozy RIP the man will never be beaten

  • NOBODY WOULD DO THIS ANYMORE...WHY...DONT EVEN HERE IT ON THE RADIO

  • A complete rip-off of The Jimi Hendrix Eperience 3rd stone from the sun.Sorry Cozy fans but it's true.

  • @trashiscool1 Cozy had a big hit with and made millions, I don't suppose he cared - and I am sure his surviving relatives don't care as they still do well on residuals!

  • He was one of the best, sadly missed.

  • what song are they playing? i think i've heard the chili peppers play it before.

  • Cozy was a fantastic guy, among the top five rock drummers ever.

To me, the 4 others are John Bonham, Bob Rondinelli (Rainbow) Ian Paice and Terry Bozzio.

He had the privilege to perform with the finest guitarists or rock groups (Jeff Beck, Ritchie Blackmore, Jimmy Page, Gary Moore, Whitesnake, Thin Lizzy) and he always did a fantastic job.

RIP Cozy, we all miss you.

  • @runwithawolf

you must be a young un to have missed out Keith Moon

  • @runwithawolf You Forgot Ginger Baker Mate

  • I love this video, Cozy's hair is magnificent, gently feathered with a wonderful cascade that is not too curly and a light conditioning that gives it a natural sheen that compliments his skin tone.

  • @394pjo ? wtf?

  • oh yeah

  • @ RumbleGuts2112 I'M JEALOUS!!!!!!!!!! At least I got to see him perform...

  • FAB U LOUS!

  • he way the best i ever herd r.i.p

  • best i ever saw rip cozy

  • i can do that!!! ......... obviously.........

  • my step dad was friends with him drank with him most weekends and went to his funeral, he said he was the nicest man in the world and at his funeral saw something truely amazing, all the artist's there gathered round a piano and done a one off song probably would of made millions if it was leaked to the outside world

  • @felljosh kind of doubt thats true

  • Cozy the monster powell!!!!!!Yeahh

  • amazing drummer one of the best 10 in rock music industry !

RIP cozy u did a great job , we thank u for your music !

  • wow this is fantastic go cosy this is him at his best what a drummer so good looking and very sexy gret man

  • LOVED IT!!!!

  • Duane Eddy covered this song, but unfortunately it has remained unreleased since the early 1970's. Jimmy Gordon was the drummer.

  • Wow! Absolutely delighted to see Cozy getting over a million hits!!! Can't hardly beiieve it ... I thought everyone had forgotten him and it's so heartwarming to see that's not the case! Probably one of the greatest drummers ever to come out of the British isles. So diverse (check out his early jazz funk stuff with Jeff Beck). Another great Brit drummer who slips under the radar is the great Bobby Elliott of the Hollies who was one of Cozy's heroes.

  • Excellent stuff. I love a good instrumental

  • rewelacja !!!

  • best concert he ever gave top rank reading berks two people paid to see him and i was one of them sad drummer no talant just rode on the back of others

  • Why am I not surprised that in addition to his talent, his character also shone. As far as the Hendrix motif is concerned, Jimi would've dug it, I'm sure...'Dance' came out in'74...3rd Stone released in '67...Ahhh, those were the days!

  • lol i see this was ARD lol not seen that in a while

  • Suprising !! Pete York(assuming drummer of Spencer Davis Group) ! doing with Cozy ! Unexpected discovery.

  • what the..... this is beyond cool...this minus1000c.

  • oasis are shit

  • Those Classic English looks - Cozy Powell, Jeff Beck, Ritchie Blackmore, George Harrison...

  • Classic English looks ...Cozy Powell, Jeff Beck, Ritchie Blackmore, George Harrison...

  • el mejor drumer de el mundo gays

  • way to rip off jimi hendrixs hit Third Stone from the Sun

  • The musical section starting at 55 seconds was lifted by Oasis for one of their songs. Then again, what Oasis tracks AREN'T lifted from elsewhere?

Cozy forever. Top wrk on my favourite album Rainbow Rising.

  • I think a little credit should go to the other guy on the drums, he did a good job filling in with some trick shots with the sticks

  • I saw U2 two weeks ago and during the outro to 'Elevation', Larry started playing this on drums, while Bono screamed 'Larry Mullen, Dancin' With The Devil! Larry Mullen's first single, Cozy Powell!' Had to look it up. I didn't even know that he had died. Great player, good stuff.

  • I actually met Cozy Powell in a pub a couple of years before he died and he was one of the most down to earth people i have ever met. There were loads of people crooning around him and as a joke i bought him a pint and told him it was his turn next. He laughed it off but he actually brought me a pint later and sat with me just for a normal chat about snooker etc. We both knew he was famous but that didnt mean bugger all and he actually thanked me for it before he had to go. Fantastic guy.

    Peace

  • @RumbleGuts2112 That's a damn nice story mate. I always thought it was cool the way he & Ritchie Blackmore looked a bit alike - as they were so great together in Rainbow.

  • @RumbleGuts2112 AND I AM A DUTCHMAN

  • @shanondor Dont care if you believe me or not because it doesnt stop it from been the truth. When i asked him if he could sign the back of my jacket he didnt want to at first because he said it would ruin it but he eventually gave in. A few weeks later somebody nicked it when i had a party at my place and never found out who it was.

    Peace

  • @RumbleGuts2112 Cool story. I love it when celebs are still one of us. Take care.

    Mandy

  • this is the man thats responsible for me hearing that phrase "michael! will you stop that bloody Tapping" over and over , the most inspirational drummer i personally have ever seen, thankyou Cozy

  • blast form the past FANTASTIC what a legend

  • this is Hendrix's third rock from the sun anybody noticed ?

  • @mehmetursan

    Yep

Right Said Fred sampled it as well (I'm Too Sexy)

  • Oh & @Setabretsam I saw Cozy many times live & trust me he might change it up a bit but he was very able to play the same track the same way if he so wished. He was a true performer & a perfect gentleman. Yes I met him a few times too

  • Cozy, simply the greatest drummer ever. It broke my heart when you died. RIP

  • RIP COZY - WE LOVE YOU

  • COZY drums forever

  • what is that riff from? definitly not the first song to use it..I have a 60's record with that groove..but not the same drums obviously. Suzie Quatro played bass on the single!

  • @oatstao it should be Jimi Hendrix's "3rd Stone From The Sun"

  • @jumpy27 aahhh YES YES! :D ahha thanks! So freaking obvious! cool ! hahah BINGO MAN!

  • @oatstao You're thinking of "Night Flight to Venus" by Bony M, but I think this preceded it.

  • GOTTA BE THE MOST RIDICULOUS ''MUSIC'' ON THE PLANET, HE WAS NEVER ABLE TO PLAY THE SAME PERFORMANCE THE SAME TWICE....IMPOSSIBLE

  • @setabretsam always some prick who wants to knock somebody that they will never be as good as u try it pal

  • @setabretsam Erm... and how many times did you watch Cozy in the studio or see him perform live then? Fact he could put a good show and would deliberately change tracks a bit live as a PERFORMER, but he could and did frequently play the same track the same on several occasions. It IS possible when you are as dedicated a perfectionist as Cozy Powell! This track was a live recording of live musicians playing real instruments, so what qualifies you to describe it as "music" in a derogatory way?

  • @setabretsam moron....

  • Cozy Powell - Jeff Beck - separated at birth? Two spectacular rock musicians!

  • AWESOME !! after all these years R I P Cozy

  • BRILLANT, CHEERS DAVE

  • So Cool! Still gets me goin' after all these years! ......Remember it the first time!

  • So Cool! Still gets me goin after all these years! Rememeber it the first time!

  • So Cool!

  • night flight to venus anybody....

  • @SuperBarnsleyChop

Yes same drums..but this was made 5 years earlier than boney m song.

So now go to night flight to venus and type..dance with the devil anybody?

    set the record straight.

  • Amazing drums & percussion.

The keyboards & 80s guitar RUINED it tho!

  • Cozy Powell was a good drummer but not in the league of Simon Phillips and the like.

  • Powell is overrated - not a bad drummer but far away as one of the best....

  • @vidividividi100 What the hell are you talking about not one of the best. Powell , Anton Figg, Bev Beven, Gene Krupa, Denny Carmacy hope i spelled that..Don Hennly, All are drum GODS...GET IT BONE HEAD.. I've been playing for 30 odd years and have not reached what they have.

  • My Idol

  • the greatest drummer of all time

  • Legend RIP

  • I went and saw Cozy many years ago in the UK and he was brilliant, this song still rocks.

  • Aren't there any videos of Cozy alone doing this? Surely to god there should be???

  • @nik1969100 Cozy was good, no extraordinary, but even he couldn't play two drum kits at that speed at the same time! The point of this is it was live, I reckon 100% live. Cozy did layer in the studio and would have played all the drums on the recordings, but live, there has got to be either another drummer, in this case the reliable Pete York to do the basic beat or, a recording of the part that Pete was playing. Hope this answers your question?!

  • Sensational!

  • 1495 likes awesome people.

  • A LEGEND 1 WORD TO DISCRIBE HIM AWESOME

  • Cozy makes Neil Peart look like one of my shits.

  • I have one of his drum stick it's hanging on my wall!! My father got it when Rainbow played in sweden. He was a great drummer, really good, he is "Rambo on drums".

  • .... up there with bonham and moon....

  • up there with bonham and moon ?he is the daddy the ground breaker of all drummers mate

  • Dam, COZY was my favorite drummer! Still and always well be my favorite drummer.!

  • Cozy looks so much like Jeff Beck it is uncanny. I didn't know he played this fusion like stuff. Drumming: GREAT Music not so much. How does this get 1 million views? I mean I love Cozy. I was a huge fan of Rainbow, but had no idea how famous he was. When was this recorded?

  • @eqsmooth this was a number 3 Uk hit single for Cozy in 1973. In fact Suzi Quatro played bass on the 1973 hit single

  • Amazing.

  • he is just so good

  • Man! I never knew of this song! Cozy was a beast. R.I.P., Cozy.

Thanks for turning us on to this. I'm inspired to get back on the kit.

  • 55 dislikes?? What are you people? Deaf or something?

  • @Tasosdio21 THE SOMETHING IS CALLED TONEDEAF

  • BRILLIANT..!!!

  • something about cozy's style and movement reminds me of Shannon Larkin.. or maybe I should say the reverse.. anyone agree??

  • That s never good if old guys take drugs.

Bass guitarist of WHO , then Clash guys and so on.

If you are old you just need to play.

No more drugs Mr nice guy !

Othervise you wil be dead !

  • @SioPopu Whats your commet got to do with Cozy? He did not do recreational drugs, you only have to look at this VT to see the proof that he worked out with weights almost everyday. Fact is he left more than one band becuase of other members doing drugs.

  • Fantastic. Rest in peace Cozy. Its Coverdales voice in the beginning. Anyone know where and when this clip is from?

  • @joivha

This is from German ARD-TV project "SuperDrumming" by Pete York.

And this is not Coverdale's voice in the beginning

  • @conallsk81994 chuck berry could kick the shit out of chuck norris(dorris)

  • It was phone sex while speeding that killed Cozy - is that right?

  • @MissEgasMoniz He was talking to his daughter whilst driving his sports car too fast, lost it and his last words were " OH SHIT" according to a radio interview with his daughter that is.

  • @fat88andy Thanks for setting me straight with that.

  • @fat88andy Crap! He did not have a daughter. He was talking to a girlfriend. He was a safe, yeah fast, but good driver and was not driving a sports car! A Saab 9000, high performance maybe, but not by definition a sports car, best to get facts right if you are going to comment at other people!

  • I can remember this song very well as I still have the single I bought as a 14 year old back in 1973.

  • Comment removed

  • Another great artist that died before his time

  • E.P.I.C :D

this is on hot fuzz LOL

  • E.P.I.C :D

  • Cozy was beautiful. And he would be proud of drummings next big thing.

    Hes MMA's ray3handssnow (google him).

Hes not one of us, and hes changing the instrument..

  • The 1st single i ever bought, awsome!!! Cozy was the best

  • SUPER!!!

  • Learnt this in my drum lesson today. Oh yeah... ;)

  • he looks like sylvester stallone

  • How could i have forgotten just how good he was? What a treat to hear and see him again.

  • I start randomly hit on my lap n' knees with open hands to the drum beat every time i'm thinking about or hearing this song lol :P

this instrumental song is totally addicting and catchy at the same time!!! ^_^

  • When my Dad first told me about this song I was about 15/16 and had just started playing drums. This instantly hailed Cozy to me as the greatest rock drummer of all time. Man he had so much flare and groove behind the kit and unlike a lot of drummers, he used the whole kit too, absolute legend RIP!

  • @JTJUDAS Keith 'Moony' Moon.... or John Bonham... Both were brilliant drummers and are just as good if not better than Cozy in my opinion. listen to Moby Dick, bonhams drumming AND percussion on that are far more intricate, and he used his whole kit.

    Moony had more energy.

Oh and Neal Pert, Rush's Drummer is epic too.

  • @Mjollnir1990 Neil Peart >.>

  • has anyone eles had a hit with solo on drums, yet i was watching a program,on the best drummers,he didnt get a mensoin.must have been made by a 20 year old, that does not what a drum set looks like

  • cozy powell the only man who neede a rythm drummer

  • @assfacerz LOL

  • I never knew benny hill was a drummer...

  • whos spergety arms.

    Lol.

    I miss Cozy RIP Mate.

  • Is there a version with just Cozy on drums?

  • What is it with this tune? I've hear it played by everyone from Jimi Hendrix to Right Said Fred, but it's not called Dance with the Devil?

  • @astrophonix

The melody Cozy used is from Jimmy Hendrix, 'Third rock from the sun,' Boney M used parts of it on 'Night Flight to Venus' and Right Said Fred used it on 'I'm too sexy'
