How can you like rap and sleep at night? Are you unable to hear the prison yard aesthetics? Are you numb to ugliness? Why is Fox successful? But Jon, why are you successful? Because you make an audience feel, not think. South Park makes you feel conservative feelings. You make people feel Tina Fey glasses wearing smart. It's all feeling. The actual logic is flimsy. Politifact caught what happened when you tried to be a "reporter of facts". tyfyt
wow!!!! a liberal defending a conservatives humanity. what a concept. This is something that no conservative has ever done for a liberal. If everyone looked passed others affiliations and ideologies and saw another human being, maybe we could get something done.
i'm a fairly conservative person and tend to watch fox news. i don't agree with everything that is said on there and you can always sense a bias in the topics - i agree wholeheartedly with what jon stewart says in this video - why can't we have a program that tells a story objectively.
Um... and by "that" I mean acknowledgment that there are plenty of non-psychopath Bush supporters out there. I'm really glad Jon mentioned that - I think there are a lot of comedians who wouldn't have.
WELCOME TO SCARBOROUGH COUNTRY...YOUR PASSPORT TO BULLSHIT!!!!!!! HISTERICAL, I like Scarborough, but he is kind of a d-bag...all for an ego driven persute for ratings
They created a market for people who are willing to give up money to hear someone say things some people call vulgar. Look at how many hundreds of millions of dollars are spent on commercialized, packaged, marketed, radio. There will always be foolish people who will pay for what they can get for free.
This was quite an insightful interview. I also like what Jon said about Fox, that they showed that a perspective, not just the sensationalism/reporting-latest-info, can work. I think that MSNBC has started following this approach with Rachel Maddows. And Colbert has been doing it since he started. I can imagine a lot of great conversations between Jon and Colbert while he was at The Daily Show.
'Stolen Honor', an anti-Kerry documentary current to this interview, 2004. The Sinclair Broadcast Group was going to air the documentary right before the election in an effort to hurt Kerry at the polls. Controversial because the film was transparently a smear campaign which suggested that Kerry's testimony about Vietnam & his antiwar activism had led to worse treatment for POWs in Vietnam at the time.
I agree - as someone who personally loathes Bush. This is part of why I recognize that Stewart is a superior person to me, and I'm glad that he has a voice in this debate on destructive politics. With the exception, perhaps, of his public views on Bob Novak, he generally resists the tendency we have of grouping people into good vs. evil. I go around calling Bush an evil man, but the reality is he probably is a decent guy on an interpersonal level. He's just the wrong man for the job he has.
C-SPAN isn't subject to the decency regulations that broadcast stations are (under FCC guidelines). There is more than one "TV" when it comes to FCC oversight. FCC manages terrestrial/broadcast stations. Cable and satellite regulate themselves to some extent, because they know that if they don't, the FCC will get a mandate from Congress to take over in those areas as well.
Fortunately a few f-bombs on a station with as little viewership as C-SPAN isn't going to send the government rushing in

Uh, actually, you DO mean it in a partisan way, you little fucking weasel. Why don't you shut up and listen to Jon's points instead of whining?

Honestly, the FCC went smart, not stupid.
They created a market for people who are willing to give up money to hear someone say things some people call vulgar.
