  • ... I remember this when I was young, it has been "theme" of my life ...

  • Rutger Hauer: great Dutch actor.

  • mom said enough internet, time for magic!

  • Amazing and beautiful.

(these were Rutger Hauer's own unscripted words)

  • Has anyone seen Rutger Hauer lately? He's gone from being superfit replicant Roy Batty to looking like a real hobo in Hobo with a Shotgun. He's the reason I started my fitness program. Scary stuff.

  • god this scene really speaks to me you know. they way hauer delivers it and the deep stare of ford when he realises this is some deep shit. and then the music, effing brilliant. real shame that virtually everyone i talk to nowadays has never seen nor heard of blade runner let alone knows about this soul penetrating scene.

  • @dsdan83 soul-penetrating.. the ones who know bladerunner are privilidged--it takes capacity to understand (..so, don't expect from many to know, enjoy being in a few)

  • Treadlightyful In Ripley Scott's Blade Runner THE FINAL CUT DVD with remastering the dove flys off into a dark, rainy, chiminey smoke bletching sky The blue sky ending is in the DIRECTORS CUT DVD Alternate episodes are with a Harrison Ford's thumpy voice over & the episode with the different ending Instead of the lift doors closing on Deckard & Rachael we see them happily driving in some far away Off World pristine planet without a care in the world, just silly..... THE FINAL CUT DVD is the best

  • The Moving Finger writes; and, having writ,

Moves on: nor all thy Piety nor Wit Shall lure it back to cancel half a Line,

Nor all thy Tears wash out a Word of it.

~From Rubaiyat of Omar Kayyam 1120ace

    * the only thing is when the dove flies off would have liked to see an overcast sky , it looked a little fake to be so gloomy & then pan above to the sunshine , though Blade Runner now has a chance for some love finally amidst the gloom of his life , a short time for love

  • Possibly the finest moment in cineman

  • His smile after he says "Time to die" gets me every time.

  • What a piece of work is a man, how noble in reason, how infinite in faculties, in form and moving how express and admirable, in action how like an angel, in apprehension how like a god! the beauty of the world, the paragon of animals—and yet, to me, what is this quintessence of dust? Man delights not me— nor woman neither, though by your smiling you seem to say so.

  • @amcinema I wish I could get you banned from making comments.. You don't half talk some amount of shite

  • @marckellyv1 :)

  • 4 people wish this clip was longer.

  • @Earthenenigma 4 people will be lost in time, like tears in rain.

  • I've..... watched this, more times than you people would believe....

  • Rutger is a god!

  • It's everyone's FINAL MOMENT..when we rejoin the universe, merged, and

    no more.

    :(

  • This movie actually makes me think about life, slavery, and the grey areas of humanity. What does it mean to be human? How desperate would anyone fight to stay alive even at the cost of being thought of as a monster?

  • @IdleDrifter nicely said....

  • LIKE TEARS IN RAIN !!!!

  • one we wil die & b a 4goten memry 2 others, except 2 GOD.Realy thu film folows on the logic that u can more human than humam, wich is theoreticly not tru.U can only b HUMAN!

  • Very moving. When I am about to die, if I am aware. I will think of these lines. I think it would make it much easier to let go.

  • "All those moments will be lost... in time" This is a masterpiece of a movie.

  • Tannhäuser from the Bayreuth Festspielhaus 2011 programme.

Yup re-checked the pronunciation on Google translate.

if you change Tannhäuser to Tannhaeuser

    then click on the

    - ENG "listen" you'll hear "taan-how-ser'

    - GER "listen" you'll hear "taan-hoy-ser"

  • @flungingpictures - It's just like the Republican House of Representative's Speaker's name is John BOEHNER = BÖHNER.

You'll notice that he wants it to be pronounced as BANE-R

Try any sites, and you'll see that in GER it's pronounced as BOON-R, and

the correct ENG pronunciation is BONE-R.

Badd way to have one's names said.

This is not new. in UK former Tory leader was Alec-Douglas HOME, pronounced as HUME. Leading an army "For Home! For Home!" did not have the desired effect, hence the change.

  • @flungingpictures ö is actually pronounced with more of an "ur" inflection, though you don't fully annunciate the r ending. So it would be more like Burner.

  • @OmegaMapDesign - Burner is still no where near "Bane-er"

    THX. I stand corrected.

But Boner would have been more fun, no?

  • Ridley should get a medal from the Queen.. for all his movies that have impacted us all.. LEGEND :)

  • Ridley Scott, Philip K. Dick... geniuses.

Hey, maybe some day I'll come up with a story that's at least one percent as awesome as this. Maybe I won't be lost in time then?

  • did he died?

  • An Oscar-worthy performance.

  • Truely amazing.

  • The "tears in rain" bit wasn't in the script, by the way. He just added that bit himself.

Interesting, isn't it? Makes you think.

  • @an0nim0uz no

  • READ ECCLESIATES!!! The only meaning in life is to enjoy the time God has given us and worship him for it.

  • @thanatos1971 Wow, what a horrible philosophy. It outright rejects all things good and noble in the human spirit. How can you honestly believe that and still look at yourself in the mirror?

  • @thanatos1971 :'D How naive...You actually made me smile... Not get the fuck off the internet.... :'D We don't like talking about your 'God' here.

  • @thanatos1971

It makes me giggle to see how theists are so egocentric and solipsistic. "Don't mind me, I just thought I'd hook you up with a book from the creator or the universe..." lol Grow up already you credulous hack.

  • Die Nazi die!!

  • @glimmer2158 lol he's dutch : D

your so stupid, what are you twelve ?

  • Maybe the camera following Morgan Freeman out of Shawshank... Forrest Gump saying goodbye to Jenny... there aren't many poignant, heart wrenching moments in cinema as good as this. Perfect music, perfect delivery from Rutger, perfect direction, just a perfect ending for one of the greatest science fiction films ever made.

  • Rutger: wow!

  • On the blu-ray there is a version where Harrison Ford talks more aboyt Roy dying. I also heard there is a version where it shows Roy say, "Time to die". I don't like how it cuts away to Deckard.

  • I like the one guy in Deadwood

  • one of the best scenes ever

  • isnt this supposed to be a metaphor for life? ie being human is the struggle to stay alive as long as possible, however end of the day all you are doing is collecting memories we cant take with us.....sad truth to existence

  • @sharks5006 Yeah, what kind of sick fucking creator would make things that way? At least Roy got to crush his creator's skull.......my personal theory is that he didn't go there planning to kill Tyrell, but when he found out what a freakin' patzer at chess the man who designed his brain was......yeah, that was just a little too much to handle.

  • I think what makes this scene so beautiful, is how human the "villain" turns out to be.

It's the most humane moment in all the film, and it is displayed through the actions of a homicidal android. In the end, it's the most wonderful aspects of human nature, that turn out to be the hero.

  • @sarlowit Tyrell did say that the goal of his company was "More human than human". I'm guessing that might not have been Tyrell's last thought, though. Probably something along the lines of "What idiotic focus group decided these fucking replicants should be so stron-----".

  • one of the best and most magical moments in sci fi (wud include it up there along with "im your father").lost on utube! This movie will be lost on the internet like my comment on youtube! have read and is widely known that he made part of this up...or all of it. which is amazing! what i really like is the pause he yakes (swallowing) after he says "like"...what a d...mn good and underrated actor! i guess cus he wasnt from the US! he was awesome with Michelle Pfeiffer on Ladyhawke (also underrated)

  • Best scene in movie history.

  • I thought this was going to be when he says, "Wake up! Time to die!" before trying to put his fist through Deckard's face. One of my all-time favourite films, anyway. One of my favourite books of all-time, too, though the film didn't follow the book exactly!

  • All he wanted was FREEDOM

  • This scene made me cry the most. Full of emotions. best Movie of all time.

  • Blade Runner is considered a science-fiction masterpiece.

    And I could be wrong.

  • @amazingdany No, you are not wrong. I agree with you that it should be considered one of the greatest Sci-Fi films ever. Alot of influances came from it.

  • Per voi ragazzi di Pisa vi lascio con una delle mie scene di film preferite

  • i miss the harrison ford voice over the director obviously did not like it but it added feeling to this wonderful movie.

  • @red8e8wg - I agree there is some Christian symbolism, but there were a lot of themes not linked to Christianity, such as Rutger Haur killing his creator. I hope no one reads this before watching the movie

  • some epic shit right there

  • "I don't know why he saved my life. Maybe in those last few moments he loved life more than he ever had before...Anyone's life...My life...All I could do was sit there and watch him die." ---From the original version--not that stupid director's cut without the narration---Great modern film noir. For some reason overlooked as such.

  • @BuckNekkid3000 Dude, are you kidding? The theatrical cut was a fucking disasterpiece.

  • @phosis It appears that you and I think two completely different things.

  • @BuckNekkid3000 Yes. Also, the sky is blue and water is wet.

  • @phosis How profound. Your parents must be very proud of you.

  • @phosis yes. The theatrical cut was a masterpiece. It was ther director's cut that I said i didn't like.

  • @BuckNekkid3000 been looking for a copy of for ever

  • @crookedwiretap89 I've only seen the original version (with the narration) available on VHS.

  • Great seen ... over loaded with melancholy !

    Makes me so sad.

  • anyone think this guy looks like BRYAN FURY! holy shit he rlly does

  • @Robin444C no, bryan fury looks like rutger hauer.

  • Where is the making of Blade Runner where Rutger Haur says he went after "Sense of poetry, sense of play, sense of curiosity, sense of sexuality, and sense of humor" (human qualities he portrayed for this character)...

  • A fine scene, wonderful music and great acting / monologue. There are some rather clever references to christian symbolism in this movie too. Did anybody notice?

  • great scene our lives our conflicts, our concepts of spirituality are insignificant compared to the vastness of the universe. it is inorance that base our foundations of reality on because their is so much out there that is still unknown. god ccreated us in his image..when there could be billions of lifeforms throughout our own the galaxy yet to be discovered. we are just a tiny drop in an ocean of stars.

  • What transcendent beauty can be found in the work of a SciFi movie...

  • "A 'Man's' job" because Deckard was a Replicant

  • Tears in the rain. I if Im getting this right tears represent memories and ideas, but they are just insignificantncompared the all the drops of rain

  • @matt4real4life

I think we're thinking the same thing.

I see it as the tears (memories and experiences) being washed away by the rain and end up being added to the rest of the water (the memories being consumed in the mass memory of the world). I hope that made sense.

  • What do you mean by '4983 days till the eve of are destruction'?

  • I love this moment, one of the greatest of the 7th art.

But, I thought it's even better in French.

French is very dedicate for those kind of expression of feelings.

  • a truely amazing movie and such a sad ending,brilliantly written/shot/acted,totaly flaweless 10/10

  • i can watch this over and over again... . It deserves a nobel prize.... no, it deserves something much better.... actually this doesnt need to deserve anything... it's just perfect.

  • I've seen things you people won't believe: I saw the final scene of Blade Runner and it is the BEST ENDING SCENE EVER MADE... You've done a man's job, sir! Well done!

  • People in a hundred years time will look back on this film and admire us for such a creative film with wonderful dialogue. glad i'm here now in this time with a mind full of great memories. love and miss the 80's...[and the music]

  • time to die...

  • First time I saw the movie and then this scene I thought it was special... I see I wasn't the only one to think so

  • a very powerfull scene.. the moment when he says "Time.. To die.." and gives out that one last sad smirk.. and lowers his head.. I get a heavy feeling on my chest.. it's that powerfull. Well done.. not many modern movies can make the viewer feel such way.

  • best damn scene ever made.

  • Check out the video I put as a reply to this video. Gary Numan wrote a song based on this, and it's called Time to Die. I thought you guys would enjoy it, and I hope you do

  • one of my favourite scenes ever.

  • Goodbye

  • Goodbye Does It Offend You, Yeah?

  • DIOYY </3

  • DOIYY :(

  • You've done a man's job, sir.

  • TOO BAD SHE WONT LIVE... but then again who does?

  • I am what I am...........I will not allow you to babysit me my cousin, Im twice your age

  • youve no idea saun.........go home

  • If this movie had a second chance at the Oscars, this scene alone would easily win Best Supporting Actor for Rutger Hauer.

  • I love the song Gary Numan wrote out of this 'Time to Die.'

  • infinite sadness, infinite beauty

  • He's a robot.

  • time to light up a fatty

  • A brilant ending for a brilant movie.

  • Those last few lines make me realize how insignificant my life is. In 100 years, nobody will know my name, what I did, or anything else about me. My life experiences and all I worked for will be gone forever, cause no one will remember. "All those moments will be lost in time, like tears in rain."

  • @ArgusPlexus Which is what I'm thinking now. It's funny. Today I heard on the radio a Christian Rock group singing about a time of no struggle, no pain, no anguish. They were of course talking about heaven and going to meet Jesus. Me, I think religion and god are imaginary, but one wonders if this NEXUS 6 didn't get the better deal. My family doesn't call. My one friend that I have left calls, but he's got probs of his own. And me? Nothing left. I've nothing left to lose.

  • @ArgusPlexus Wow you must be one lonely person. Perhaps you should consider fighting Boagrius, that way people will always remember your name.

  • @ArgusPlexus Fool. They are significant because you LIVED THEM. Dont be so melodramatic. LIVE LIFE!!! TAKE BIG BITES!!! Savor what you live, not so people will remember, but because they ARE YOUR LIFE!!!!!

  • @ArgusPlexus i like weed to bro

  • @ArgusPlexus Don't get too caught up in your life story, after all you are all that is, was and ever will be.

  • @ArgusPlexus

maybe someone will see this comment on youtube and think...there goes the great argus plexus...he really knew his shit.

  • @zeejustin6 Your response to him just made my day a tad better. Honestly. Thanks! Never thought about that, really... assuming the Internet still exists then, we can live forever through that.

  • @zeejustin6 No, they'll probably think 'there goes argus plexus, he really knew shit'

  • @ArgusPlexus I will remember you, because you made me think too :P

  • @ArgusPlexus I will remember you!

  • @ArgusPlexus so will billions of others, we're all just grains of sand in the universe. One day, we will all be forgotten!

  • The greatest movie ever done...

  • Still makes my eyes burn. Absolutely beautyful

  • all those moments will be lost............like tears in the rain

  • so im done and with NO REGRETS

  • youd never believe.....no game...........reality

  • I think that you're not supposed to know if Deckard was a replicant or not. "Does it matter?" is the statement I think.

  • It's not made obvious, but it's alluded to, which is the thinking man's way of saying a big, infallible, "Yes."

  • Yeah, he is a replicant as hinted at. Ridley Scott said it in an interview that I just read. I personally think he made a mistake by making the answer definite.

  • Not all of this monologue was in the script, Rutger made it up in one of the takes, and they liked it so it was kept.

  • Why did batty die at that exact moment? was his 4 years up or did he cause himself to die? I dont gettit???

  • first option

  • Not sure either. But he wasn't meant to last as long as the rest, Tyrell says so himself with the flame analogy. On the other side he was already dying when he was chasing deckard, that's why he sticked a nail at his hand. And the whole point of this part is that, at the end he does what he meant (which is this line). When his, say destiny is fulfilled he acknowledges such thing and he's ready to die, which was meant to happen a while ago. it's hard to explain hehe

  • His 4 years were up.

  • i think without trish he had no will to live. He loved her and her dying caused him to die. The tragedy of this film is the lack of humanity has toward those who are human. The replicants are only men disguised as machines.

  • very profound and very sad, a statement of our mortality.

  • Rutger Hauer, I love you!

  • Fantastic speech...Gary Numan wrote a fantastic song inspired by this very scene. Its called Time To Die...check it out

  • A classic scene from a classic Sci-Fi film. Amazing

  • One of THE best movies of all time and one of the best scenes in that movie, the atmospherics are superb!

  • That's Some beautiful shit i'm gutted the camera kept on turning towards ford

  • Such a good death scene. Still not as good as the ending of the book (which has the absolute opposite message and Decker is much more badass).

  • This is one of the most tragic conclusions in all of cinema. Like a Quixotic pursuit, Roy was never able to achieve the one thing that he so desired: the desire for more life.....to be free.

  • He finds freedom in death.

  • I could really empathize with Roy in this poignant scene.

  • bryan fury is based on haures chracter.

  • No way. The guy from Tekken 3?

  • great clip!

  • Maybe one of the best scenes in any movie ever!

  • hauer owns this movie

  • If this movie was a chick I'd ram my cock in its pussy hole.

  • Fucking lol.

  • Love this movie!

  • This is the best scene of one of the finest sci-fi movies ever!

  • One of the best scenes from any movie... ever.

  • Before this scene, Blade Runner was for me just another entertaining ScFi movie.

But after listening to this final Roy's monologue, it became a grat piece of art.

  • Truly a grat film.

  • @elnatre

It was a piece of art from the opening scene onwards.

  • ahh i prefer the final cut version to anything else. when the dove flies off, i swear its different in the final cut so this music be directors or...heaven forbid...the theatrical cut.

  • Time to .....Weep!

  • Why the neg ratings. Not like I said anything controversial

  • That's just the way things work round here!

I just think you should be able to see comments that have more than 6 neg. ratings.

  • Not complaining - just wanna know why.

  • Love it!

  • I saw this movie a waaay long time ago and for the life of me couldn't remember the name, just saw it again after like 6 or 7 years on TV today and had to watch it <3

  • Rutger is the best!
