@ClarJMoon its about in Primitive times, in Russia, Pagan women in the spring would perform a ritual, and the chosen one would offer herself to the "higher being" whether that be gods or what have you. She is offered by dancing her self to death, literally.
I think the begining of this if he would of kept with that idea then it would have been a nice song but i do like augurs of spring the chaos of it. But still the begining idea was nice but i guess thats not what he was going for.
Hi, I saw the complete version of the Rite of Spring. Didnt make any sense at first, but i knew somehow it is something suicidal or related to burining of that woman. It doesnt make any emotional connection to me as much. But i am quite intrigued to know wat is so expressive about this dance and the style of communication. Can anyone tell me what exactly more is happening ? what is the setting?? Do i have to know something abt dance as a prerequisite. Thanx.
@mevedaahe123 It's about a primeval community celebrating spring by sacrificing a maiden. I guess the 'meaning' of this piece is the dark, primal, animalistic nature of humans (hence the choreography). But you can interpret however you like...
@Azarien lol usually the negative comments are the ones that are stupid rage. The fact is, when stravinsky first played this, the audience legitimately had a riot with fistfights because they thought it sucked
@Azarien You have lack appreciation for anything that isn't boringly mainstream. Fuck off and find something better to do than complain on about music that isn't in your taste.
@1212boochie This is actually re-choreographed. Meaning it was not the original debut choreography. Stravinsky actually died several years before this show was released.
@jasonfu6699 oh....well ok but....The crowd still rioted beacause the music and the ORINGINAL choreography was so crazy. This is according to prof. of Music.....he has a Phd. so.........
THE piece.

I think it's about women being in control of their own fertility and reproduction and still feeling a bit of shame about it.

Love the bass clarinet/Eb clarinet duet at the end-ethereal and a genius combination of timbres for Stravinsky to utilize!

Great music? This "music" is a noise comparable to some crappy death metal of today. I find no art in it.
Azarien 1 month ago
@Azarien If you can't find art in Stravinsky, you need to stop looking, because you aren't going to find it.

@Azarien Go study modernism, before i call you retarded.

@ConcretePie It doesn't matter what it is called. I don't like it, and I expressed that as a balance to all those "great music!" comments.

@Azarien No, I have a lack of tolerance for those who have nothing better to do than look up videos of artists they don't like and whine about them.
