I was assigned to NAS North Island in the early 80s. In the warmer months, I always loved walking up and down Orange Avenue and taking in a movie at the little theatre, then heading over to Baskin Robbins for a sundae or the local pizza place for a bite to eat before going back to the Animal-House-like existence of life in a Navy barracks...and believe me, life in a Navy barracks is no where near as fun and cute as the movie. I loved that special little town where time stood still.
Perhaps, someday, the powers that be will find it in their hearts to return some of the lands to the Native Coronado Islanders (such as myself) and forfeit some of the enormous funds gleaned from exploiting my native land with tourism.
