  • Alisa comes from a very musical family (her father and brother are violinists, and her mother is a pianist). Her cello playing is pure and beautiful.

  • I saw her once playing Golijov's celloconcert, and she did it great, but I have to say, Bach isn't her thing. Otherwise she's an amazing cellist.

  • WOW... She is amazing :)

  • way to much emtion. study the piece you r tard

  • @hagenbell

Too much emotion?! It's music. And this is very much her making her own music out of it.

  • she is good and stuff. but she needs to try and slow it down first because in a lot of places, the sound is very bad :P

  • this woman have to study her bow from the beggining in the right way

before play 1:16 listen her sound... it's horrible

  • @k73f: I'm doing just that, don't worry. I like her Elgar, but at this time she has too much ego to play Bach in a profound way. This sounds like a study and does not reach the heart.

  • People complaining about her: if you don't like her style go and record your own interpretation, go try and record you own CD's and sell them world wide, make world tours, play with the best orchestras in the world, and go play with the best musicians in the world and conductors.

  • @k73f Being good at the cello = being good at Bach. Totally different concept.

  • @NimbleTurtle13 I absolutely disagree. YOu have to be a good and mature cellist in order to have a understanding and respectful Bach interpretation.

  • @k73f I can't prove that there is no correlation whatsoever between the two. However, let me ask a few questions: what is a "respectful" interpretation? Because the are many interpretations that are completely different. You see cellists like Rostropovich and Yo-Yo Ma playing nearly OPPOSITE styles then they did in the past. Their interpretations, to many listeners, did not necessarily get better at all, worse in many cases Continued...

  • @k73f Rostro. did not interpret the suites for a very long time, knowing that like most cellists, he had too much "personal" emotions, emotions that distracted him from interpreting Bach without bias. So to the contrary, being a great cellist does not automatically make one a great Bach interpreter. Obviously you have to be good to carry out the technical details, but interpretation wise?

  • Bellissimo!

  • she should tie her hair back. and slow down a little.

done of the the notes are resonating and I feel rushed to the end

  • @rkddbstlr Tie her hair back? I thought this was 2011.

  • This Bach would be good 20 years ago, but now is very out of style.

  • @jakehanegan1989 Meaning what, exactly?

  • @rguion8 Too much vibrato. Too much sustain. Too little harmonic sense. No thought for compound melody.

  • Just discovered Alisa Weilerstein today. She is great!

  • magnificent

  • Gutsy! Has a great career ahead of her.

  • Beautiful!!
