I have a t61 as well and its amazing,, really I didnt expect to get such an good frame rate in source engine games it really surprised me. but geez the quadro 140m is actually a really great card.. dont expect it to play crysis at a playable frame rate. However Half life 2, and counterstrike source run great (: along with all the other source engine games. Great notebook (:
@athlon866 make sure you have proper driver installed and it is functioning properly, or your laptop indeed have a quardo 140m in it, not integrated intel graphic card.
I got an xps m1330 dell and a t61. I found the T61 sluggish its definitely more business orientated but it felt solid and doesn't end up dying quite as fast when on the move. It loses out in most areas again my dell (2.5Ghz 6MB cache, 128MB Nvidia 8400, 500GB HDD etc, 4GB RAM...) but had less problems with the t61. oh if only I could carry them both around with me.
oh turbo memory on the t61 - yes it makes quite a bit of difference even with 1GB
it can play Crysis on low settings w/ textures, shaders, and shadows at medium @ 1024x768 and get a stable framerate of 25-27fps with it dipping in some really intesnsive areas to 17. If you drop it to the absolute minimum you can probably max out the resolution (1400x1050) but you get about 15fps
T61 is more business class, where as R61 is a daily use, more "plastic-feel" laptop. I had my experience with both machines, and definitely, T61 wins out.
Well since i have a completely new installed Vista 64 Ultimate, i dont have any problems whatsoever. But i cant guarantee u wont get blue screen....I highly recommend to reinstall the system because they load it with so much crap, which at the same time is useful sometimes. It's ur choice. But i am pretty sure u will love your's. I was really waiting for a perfect laptop - i can say it out loud - I FOUND ONE. Believe me or not i am a picky about computers but i finally found a good one.
I really don't see the point of changing the top cover from magnesium alloyed to the so called screen roll cage (i.e. Metal plate with plastic wrap) which is much thicker, heavier and uglyer. The top cover is actually not flat but curved. It feels like there is a huge bubble in the screen.
Also, sometimes I can hear some high frequency noise.
btw, mine T61's backlight burned out within the first week of purchase.
I cannot guaranty that u will get the same laptop, but mine is this :
CPU does not produce any noise, runs really quite and not hot at all. Rigidly stable, barely noticeable on the lap and NVidea i have not tested because i and not a gamer, but Vista index says - gaming graphics 4.6
Hi, I want to buy the same thinkpad as you and I have an question..does the GPU get very hot and unstable sometimes? It's seems that nvidia has suffer major problems with G84 & G86 GPU's..because all of them are maybe faulty.. thank you!
I got my T61 and it plays WoW and CS:S fine. I can cruise at 60 FPS as long as I don't have anti-aliasing, lighting, shadows or shaders on, which is fine with me. Very satisfied.
Well, good for you, perfect choice. Honestly, i did not buy it for gaming, but for university. As far as Vista Index score, it has to be a really good gaming platform - 4.5 it says. On my old Hp Pavilion dv6000 i had score of 3.0 and it ran GTA San Andreas and Need4Speed Carbon smoothly. I hope it will be working fine for you too. Thanks for question.
but only for office

is T61i and R61 the same notebook?
christi1992 3 years ago
it only scores 4.0
themaninthevan2001 3 years ago
Yes, about an inch or so. It doesnt matter for me even though i would not mind having it fit right in like 4-cell one.
BlackCarbon2008 3 years ago
Does the battery stick out for the 6-cell?
Dianazilla 3 years ago
dont they do a 9 cell the battery life is still pretty pants on this laptop

Yes, I've got Turbo Memory 1 Gb. But i have nothing to compare it with. The only thing i can say is that Vista Ultimate 64 bit flies on it =P
BlackCarbon2008 3 years ago
You got turbo memory on your machine? What do you think? Does it make a difference?

@NuKayon what video card do you have in your thinkpad T61?

It does indeed, but i've ordered it on purpose. Battery life is around 3 hours of i-net use with brightness.

NuKayon 3 years ago
My bad boy is $1350, i purchased it during 25% sale. And u know what, the screen does not bother me at all. Awesome machine. Thanks for watching.
BlackCarbon2008 3 years ago
1) looks like a sweet machine
2) how much did you pay for this?
3) i feel the offset screen is a bit odd and i wish they would continue the standard screen line
